Ncaa decision fri

If it didn't include a reduction in scholarships, yes. I would hate it for Berry & Theo, but that would be about as good a deal as you could hope for in any scenario.

I know we all agree the NCAA is vastly over-stepping their bounds here, but let's not forget this:

The University royally failed for 20+ years to properly monitor a particular department in its College of Arts & Sciences. As a result of this ongoing improper monitoring, the athletic department got mixed up in it because people realized these un-monitored classes were easier than a drunk freshman girl after Fall Fest and thus suggested athletes take those classes if they were worried about eligibility.

I'll be pissed when we get hammered tomorrow, but moreso pissed at our "esteemed" university for not doing its damn job well enough for TWO decades.

According to my ex roomie unc is kicking off a huge fund raising campaign tomorrow (which is why he is in chapel hill) and the gloom and doom was from the possibility of the announcement killing the campaign. The way he put it unc may have asked the ncaa to hold off since admin will be busy with events all day tomorrow and wont be available for responses to media.

A.J. speculated this was the case too. If the NCAA did agree for that reason, makes it all the more likely (IMO) that they've got a big ol' hammer waiting to drop.

"*snickers* sure UNC! We can wait til Monday. *snickers* enjoy your weekend!"

-Scholarship reductions in men's basketball, women's basketball and football
-Post season ban for both basketball teams (I think FB escapes this because of earlier ban)
-2005 championship gone
-7 game suspension for Roy
-10 games for Hatchell
-Crap load of vacated wins for both basketball teams
-5 years probation
-Dolla dolla bills y'all

It's just too bad it was the AFAM department. Another department, and maybe people aren't afraid to do something about it. But the fear of appearing racist unfortunately may cost the school dearly. If I wasn't a fan of the sports teams, I'd chuckle at the irony in that given the university's stances in other issues, but as a fan I of course don't want to see sanctions.

I DO chuckle at the irony. I basically like the sports teams and that's about it now. My kid ain't going to UNC, unless he gets a scholarship or he qualifies as an in-state student.

Ya, same, unfortunately. I would have loved to send my kid to UNC, but think they're too far gone. I mean, almost every college has a leaning, but there's is more than a leaning - especially for a southern school. Oh well.

Go to ANY other Southern public university not named Virginia, and it is a totally different feel. I've spent plenty of time at Auburn and FSU, and I attended UGA for a year. Sure, there's your typical college-age angsty libs at every school, but it's night and day different at a place like UGA, compared to UNC.

Ya, I've visited other schools and realized the difference. I get a laugh out of my friends who think I went to some staunchly conservative school, mainly because it's located south of the Mason-Dixon Line. They have no idea how soft the university really is.
