NCAAT thread (non-UNC games)

it was a flagrant...just hope they're always called like that, which of course, they are not.

What was flagrant about it? Seriously asking bc I didn't see it in real time. When a team is down late they always intentionally foul the other team to prolong the game. Heard an announcer yesterday calling for a flagrant bc a team fouled before the ball was inbounded. (Late game situation). He kept saying "that was intentional!" Over and over. In my mind (in late game situations) all fouls are most def intentional. But I'm not a "basketball minded" person so to speak so maybe I just don't get it.

I think the idea is that you have to at least make a play at the ball. That's probably what the announcer you're talking about was barking at during the inbounds play you were speaking of. I have no idea about the one today. Didn't see it

I guess I understand that. My only qualm I guess is if it's an end of game situation (and you know fouls are on purpose) what's the difference!? As long as it isn't so much to intentionally hurt a feller.

he didn't make a play on the ball...he also extended as a shove instead of what we typically see as end-game clock stoppage fouls...i know, up for interpretation.

is there any doubt that it's a flagrant the first 38:30 of the game?

I heard the call on the radio, and the announcers both thought it was flagrant.

I agree here...understand the rule but you also have to understand the INTENT of the rule. I am also a Hog fan and thought the call was BS. The intent was to foul and stop the clock NOT to foul and hurt the other player. Dave Hall who made the call is a jacka$$ official anyway...famous for making these types of calls!!!

it was the right call

it was the right call
disappointed in this response....I am getting this on Facebook by people who have no clue about hoops...thought I might at least get some explanation to back up an opinion...not just "it was the right call"!!!! What the crap....

i have no reason to explain more than i did earlier in thread.

and btw, i made it pretty clear...intent is not part of it, period.

@TarHeelMark .. which radio call were you listening to? I had Chris Webber and some other guy and they were both astounded that a flagrant was called on that.
Westwood One (it was on my XM radio). Don't recall the play-by-play guy, but John Thompson was the color guy. Speaking of, for the few minutes I heard, JT was turrible; added nothing of value at all. I don't recall him being that lame when he was on TV years ago, but he dude has gotta be in his mid-70's by now.
