In an interesting sequence of events, it looks like coach Warren is leaving for Tennessee, however Texas A&M defensive backs coach Terry Joseph is now taking his place.
Why is Warren leaving? In an interesting sequence of events, it looks like coach Warren is leaving for Tennessee, however Texas A&M defensive backs coach Terry Joseph is now taking his place.
A&M did not have a good pass D, but that likely is due to more than poor DB development and game coaching. That said - poor DB coaching almost always must be significantly to blame for weak pass D.In an interesting sequence of events, it looks like coach Warren is leaving for Tennessee, however Texas A&M defensive backs coach Terry Joseph is now taking his place.
If he is headed to Tennessee, I would say it is about money - his salary and more money for recruiting the players he wants. Why is Warren leaving?
Their pass defense was outstanding in Terry Joseph's second season there (2015).A&M did not have a good pass D, but that likely is due to more than poor DB development and game coaching. That said - poor DB coaching almost always must be significantly to blame for weak pass D.
This is not a coaching change that I expect to benefit us.
It was bad this year though. This hire should make @strummingram happy though since it's possible it will make our secondary worse. That would give him more reasons to say that Chizik should be fired.Their pass defense was outstanding in Terry Joseph's second season there (2015).
Eh. Define bad. They held opponent completions under 60% and had a 1.3:1 TD to INT ratio. It was bad this year though.
can our TD to INT rate be calculated using less than 5 decimal spots?Eh. Define bad. They held opponent completions under 60% and had a 1.3:1 TD to INT ratio.
Seems like I saw somewhere that they went from one of the best in passing yards allowed in 2015 to the 90s in 2016. Normally I don't care as much about yards allowed, but that is a very big drop off.Eh. Define bad. They held opponent completions under 60% and had a 1.3:1 TD to INT ratio.
their secondary benefited if any from that pass rush.
how's the pass rush here?
True. Since they had the same DB coach, do you think other variables were in play? Does the DB coach get the credit for the great season in 2015, the blame for the dropoff in 2016, or both?Seems like I saw somewhere that they went from one of the best in passing yards allowed in 2015 to the 90s in 2016. I'm sure there were other variables in play, but I don't watch A&M enough to know exactly what they were. If it was just a drop of 10-20 spots I wouldn't really care that much, but going from one of the best to one of the worst is a little concerning. However, my main concern for a defense is how they perform in the red zone and points allowed. If those are good then I'm ok. I'd have no problem giving up 500 yards if we only gave up 20 points.True. Since they had the same DB coach, do you think other variables were in play? I agree with that, but having such a big drop off is something you can't completely ignore and coaching has to be at least partially responsible for that.Yeah but secondary coaches only have so much input into final passing defense stats. It could be the scheme the DC employed, injuries, upperclassmen leaving and having to play more freshman, maybe they lost talent upfront and the pass rush wasn't there. At the end of the day players on the field have to make plays. This board (and probably most fans in general) has a really bad habit of blaming coaches more than players when things go wrong. The x's and o's coaching acumen of the DBs coach is only going to have so much affect on the overall performance of the defense. To RH's point above, you can't say this guys sucks because the stats in 2016 weren't great but then not give him credit for a strong unit in 2015.
