Starting today, I'm not eating any fast food for a whole month -- and if I can make it that long, I'll try to go for two months or maybe ration it from then on. I'm undecided if I'm going to count restaurants in this too.

I was going to make a resolution about drinking less, but....LOL. Y'all got any NYRs that you'll follow for a week and then fail miserably?

I've managed to put on quite a few extra pounds, so that's my number one
priority, get back down to around 180 or so.
Continue to eat healthier, a trend I started a few years back.
Take a few nice road trips, just enjoy the moment!

I'm going with food delivery in cardboard or styrofoam or wrapped in foil or wax paper

Yeah, me too. I'm heavier than I think I've ever been. Probably around 215 lbs. I gotta get back down to 195 lbs. So, I'm starting by cutting out all beer for at least one month - maybe more. I tried this a couple years ago and said "I'll only have a couple beers when I'm watching the Heels." but as y'all know, there could be as many as 3 games in a week and then I was back to drinking daily again. So, no beer for a month and I've sworn to have a salad for at least 1 meal per day. I'm hoping that with me exercising regularly like I do, I'll be able to take off the weight pretty fast.

But for the record, this isn't a New Year's resolution. I don't like those because they never stick. This is a lifestyle change. It's just coincidental that I started it yesterday.

I don't think I average eating out more than once a month.

So, any restaurant?
Not exactly. You know what I'm referring to. Say you only have 30-45 minutes for lunch on a work day and you forgot to bring a lunch. You're not going to go to a sit-down restaurant like Outback. You don't have time. You're going to go get any of the litany of places such as Wendys, Bojangles, Steak n' Shake, Zaxbys, Jersey Mikes, Subway, Chick-fil-A, et al. Those are the places to which I'm referring.

With the exception of Jersey Mike's, I consider all of those fast food. But what about the Chipotle/Salarita's/Moe's/etc. of the world? What about Firehouse Subs/Which Wich/etc.? What about Panera or Zoe's or any other place where you have to take a number back to your table and wait for your order?

I refuse to believe you're going to skip Jersey Mike's for an entire month. I'm going there for lunch just to spite you.

Great minds think of the same stupid shit.

Firehouse, while extremely extremely tasty, is even more unhealthy for you than your typical Wendy's meal.

No, I guess Moe's and Chipotle aren't really fast food because it's slightly healthier for you, but I'm gonna try to avoid all those types of places. I actually don't eat Jersey Mikes that much. Maybe once every other month. It's just a bit too far from my work to qualify for a lunch option. There is one close to my apartment, though, but I generally feel like JM for lunch rather than dinner.

All this time trying to figure out what is and isn't fast food for a guy who isn't going to stop eating fast food for more than 2 weeks.
I can try! :[

Zaxby's, Jersey Mike's, Moe's, Chipotle, and all the other places mentioned in this thread are ALL 100% within the definition of fast food. What other category would you put them in? You walk in, place an order, and pick it up at the other end of the counter. Unless there's a long line you can probably order, pay and eat inside of 30 minutes. You're not served by a waiter, and you refill your own drink from the soda machine in the corner. Just because the food's slightly better than Burger King doesn't mean it's not fast food. Holy cow, I can't believe in 2016 I let myself think a few of you people had some sense.

Oh, and no way is THN going a month without any of those places.

Listen dicknuts, I was the one who lumped it all as fast food originally. Then the idiot brigade started nitpicking.

Anyone wanna put money on me making it a whole month?

I tend to agree. I always felt that if you had a server, then it wasn't fast food. Everything else is.

I would bet but I noticed that you have conspicuously omitted gas station food from your list, which means that you have an easy out and will be living off the nasty grub at the 7-11 for the next 30 days.

I ain't no sucker.

Back to the thread topic, one grown-up thing I need to do this year is get a will. I have life insurance that will take care of my wife and kids if something happens to me (and vice versa for her) but we haven't officially set up contingencies if something happens to both of us at the same time.

You chuckers got any advice for me to disregard on that?

I'm going to quite drinking liquor, mainly just because it is overdue for me. I'm going to drink a glass of red wine (which I hate) every night. Besides that, just start eating better and working out again. I got in great shape last year just by being smart and the last four months or so have put on about 10 pounds or so by being lazy and eating terribly. I'm not sure I'll hold to the drinking one but will the other one.

I thought about not arguing on the boards but there are many idiots on the main board I've already failed there.

Get back into shape.

I hurt my back lifting weights 4 years ago and wound up with 6 months of physical therapy before having to get a steroid injection in my spine that limited my ability to push myself as hard as I used to. Couple that with having kids, an ever-expanding workload, and normal stress of family / life, keeping in shape has taken a backseat for the last few years.

So, the goal is to get back to the gym more frequently and actually be somewhat productive with it.
