Next Head Football Coach

Gonna be hard to recruit with the fear of BB jumping ship to go back to nfl. Need to go ahead and hire Rees to take over and be the CIW

Norv turners son. Hasn’t exactly lit it up in his oc career but tons of experience. Got fired from the redskins under Rivera.
And that is an NFL type problem: coaches who aint much at all kept around forever because somebody in their life is seen as powerful in NFL circles.

What are the odds that Scott Turner would turn out to be a truly top rate OC for UNC?

Moving slow with the hiring of a staff.
This week is all about the Portal as it closes Sunday…..Also some of the coaches have buyouts that expire January 1st of next year and some are coaching playoff teams…Right now Coach is getting his Front office and scouting department in order…

Seems hard to get kids to commit without knowing who their position coach will be guessing we are hoping they wanna play for OL bill.

Your next head coach of Sam Houston State is….drum roll. Phil Longo
he was there before Ole Miss, and from all accounts he was fully at home there. Those fans associate him with great offense from the last, so unless he falls flat, they will make him welcome for years.

What’s the likelihood BB either never coaches a game at UNC or only one year? Can’t help but keep thinking it’s very possible either scenario.

well, to me it seems that if you're seeing the bigger picture, the story has never been Bill Belichick, but is rather that our PTB would hire a Bill Belichick. I assume he won't be here very long and anyone who doesn't think likewise is dreaming. The real question is, did our PTB all of a sudden decide to become big-time players or did they just go ga-ga over the prospect of Belichick wanting to be our HC. We won't have the answer to that until we see what they do when Belichick and his implanted successor are gone.

So how long will he stay? In my mind, not so long that I'm not already worried that once this splashy little deal is over and done, it'll be right back to Carolina football as usual. Call me skeptical. You can't say I got that way all on my own.

Maybe but he just fired just about everyone except Freddie…Complete rebuild…

Saw where possibly Wes Welker as OC. If so there goes the possibility of Rees.

I doubt it. I give him at least 2-3 years. I believe it would have to be a heckuva NFL team and opportunity to come calling for him to go back. I don't think he goes back at the first team that calls. Also he would be 2-3 years older. With each passing year his chances of going back to the NFL is smaller.

I would expect him to do that even if he didn't bother to unpack his bags. And I'm not saying he won't hang around, I'm just saying I've learned to be highly skeptical when it comes to the subject of UNC football coaching longevity. And again, my point is that it isn't Belichick that impresses me, it's the idea that we would hire a coach of his magnitude. I'm still trying to digest that one.

He is in his 70s, this is his last stop just like it was for Mack. He is bringing his son to UNC, not so they can bolt in 1 year for a NFL job.

He wants to win a college national title to one up his friend Saban. He wants to retire as the greatest ever by planting a flag in college football too. Maybe his son replaces him, I don't care as long as we are back in the Top 10/15 when he retires.

I won't discount anything you're saying, and I of course like what you're saying...but I'll believe it when I see it.

Some time back when I was usually to be found on Rivals' Main Board, I got much opportunity to be defensive about UNC football. I claimed that we had the drawing power to recruit the top talent if we would just commit to an outstanding coach long term as well...and that there was no reason to think that we couldn't claim a nattie. I was almost laughed off the board. Being able to be proven right in that regard would be one of the sweetest told-you-so's ever.
