Nick Dorn Visits North Carolina

...and left with out committing. The entire family went to UNC for F's sake!

Unless we are holding out for someone else?....

Color me concerned.

I can't imagine you'd have someone visit that you weren't taking a commit from yet so would assume he is being told he's depth and taking time to consider.

We just signed a 6'6 wing. While Dorn sounds good, do we really need another?

If we know Drake is leaving, then probably yes. Getting 2 improves the odds that at least 1 will be good enough.

I'm not worried yet, but it does strike me as odd that everybody agrees we desperately need a PG or 2 and a couple of bigs . . . yet we are hearing about wings instead.

3 million?? I’ll sign up for that! I’m not a big but for 3 million I will play out of position. I can’t jump and under 6 feet it may be a challenge but I’m willing to take charges. Of course I will need comprehensive health insurance as I’m likely to be crushed by the opponents on a nightly basis. But for 3 million I can take the hits. Invested wisely I’ll never have to work another day. Call me Hubert.

I have no financial prowess, but even just putting that in a bank money market account that has like a 2% APR would net ~ $5k/month. I'd take that. But I understand if others wouldn't be able to live off that.

As long as we're talking about bigs, Yaxel Lendeborg still sits atop some portal lists. On3 suggests his NIL value is $2.3 million. I could swear when I saw that yesterday it was $1.5 million.

Kentucky and Michigan are after him. Why aren't we? (or are we?)

"During the 2024-25 season, Lendeborg started all 37 games at UAB posting per-game averages of 17.7 points, 11.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.8 blocks, and 1.7 steals in 33.6 minutes per outing. He shot 52.2 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from three-point range, and 75.7 percent from the free throw line."

Isn't he 6'9? If we were still running the classic Carolina two bigs system and grabbed our seven-footer I'll bet we would be all over him.

I agree that we should be all over him. At this point I don't have a clue as to what Hubert is or is not doing.

That’s IF he goes back to college.

Nothing is done til the dotted line is signed these days, plus as of today (for whatever reason) we are now in a "dead" period, so waiting on him.
Never a dead period.. dooks staff has been seen in disguise hanging around gyms etc waiting on recruits after practice etc ... during dead periods

Given that they set up a "venture capital" firm to pay recruits back in the day, trench coats and fake mustaches wouldn't surprise me either... 🥸

A little history lesson for folks. Duke has paid players for ever, most programs have, golden hand shakes, the free dinners, the girls, ect, just comes with it all. But when it really took a bad turn was back when the NBA put in the 1 year of college deal, the game changed right there. See Calipari, who I consider to be the king of sleeze figured out that he could have players paid to play for him and not be "personally" involved, he got his buddy WWW to do it with Nike money. This allowed Cal to be hand delivered basically any player he wanted and be a degree of separation between he and the $$$. The NCAA knew all about it, didn't do anything to stop it, they fear that Ky fan base for how huge and vocal it is so the NCAA looked the other way.

K saw this, K saw Cal dominating the top 10 players coming out of high school, realized the NCAA was looking the other way so a few of the iron dukes formed their own LLC and funneled the money for K to be able to do the same thing as WWW was doing for Ky. All the sudden it was duke and Ky owning the top 10 recruits, that is where the real difference making players are, top 10 coming from high school. Of course you are going to win at extremely high levels, of course you are going to put more players in the NBA when you get your pick of multiple top 10 kids coming from high school. Let's see, as a 18yr old whatam I going to do, play for UNC for maybe the occasional $50 hand shake or duke where they will drop $100,000 cash in my hands and all I have to do is play for them? LOL It is the very same thing John Wooden did and he was worshipped as a coach. I guess after 20 some years of practice programs like duke and Ky got pretty darn good at it, it was old hat for them when NIL came along. You know how it is, if you ain't cheatin ya ain't tryin...Duke has been trying for a long long time!

Norcal didn't say that WW, he used it as an example to explain another point? Unless there was another post that I have not yet seen, if so please link what you are referring to?
He's busting my chops Dave. That post was immediately following my disclaimer that it was a figure of speech and I knew less than nothing of what NIL Veesaar might get.😆

He's a 6'9" big who put up 17 pts and 11 rebs in the AAC. I imagine Lubin could put up big numbers in the AAC too.

We aren't looking to break our NIL bank on a 6'9" big man. We want a 7 footer who can defend the paint.

Houston is gonna need it .. dook will have to play bad & the refs are usually in dooks front & back pockets... dook by 10 plus

J’Wan Roberts & LJ Cryer both just picked up their 2nd foul of the game. In all seriousness, I’d make a hefty wager that one of those 2 has 2 fouls before the under 12 TO in the first half, & maybe 3 by halftime.

Just a side note, Mylik Wilson could be the X factor for the Cougs, that guy is a dog!

Blah, blah, blah. We need 2 bigs. He could (and maybe should) be one of them.
