I don't know how many of you keep with other programs and conferences. For those who don't do so, one of thew things that has been cropping up is threads with titles like 'S-and 0-s's Billionaires (usually a state, but also a school) have now agreed to create a group' to fund NIL for that football program.

NIL is free-wheeling, laissez faire. The dirtiest players will demand the most, and the schools and states with the most super rich eager to buy football greatness will arrange to pay the most.

Basketball is the same. In this age, Jerry Tarkanian at UNLV could have landed a half dozen super Top 10 recruits another half dozen Top 100.

Saban on NIL problems

Most important quote:
"And now that's actually happening. People are making deals with high school players to go to their school."

Saban said it's simple: The schools with the most money -- whether through alumni backing or other means -- "have the best chance to have the best team."

It's still illegal to give money to a recruit to attend a school. As far as him saying it's bad that players are basing their decision on where they can get the most money, they were already doing that. Recruits have always factored in exposure to their decision. The only difference is that exposure now gets them money. What he's really upset about is that this eats into his recruiting advantage. Alabama is still going to pull in top classes, but it could cost them a couple of top players every year or so. If those couple of players go to another SEC school, that could be an issue for them.

By all means, let’s buy the best teams we can. Let’s turn recruits into mercenaries for hire. It’s legal now, and everything that’s legal is good, right? Some of you would sell your soul to the devil in order to win. I’d rather college sports disappear altogether and I’ve been an avid fan for over six decades.

LOL. Did you guys even look at the website? It's a bunch of former UNC football players trying to help current players sell their merchandise and try to match them up with anyone that might want to give them a sponsorship. It's not the end of the world. Not sure why anyone would be upset at former players helping current players.

I hope I'm not that bitter when I get to your ages. Now, chill out, click on the link and buy yourself a Storm Duck shirt.

I looked at the site. If you want to support the NIL system, by all means buy a thousand of them. That’s your prerogative. It’s my prerogative not to support something I think is inherently bad for college sports. In 10 years I think you might agree about that.

I have no doubt I won't. I'm more of the thought that athletes should be treated like other students and we shouldn't act like we live in a socialist society. You do you though.
