No ill will,but

I agree that Meeks is not having a great year, but I believe there will be times we need him next year. He's a Tarheel and I support him. I also believe Hicks > Meeks.

Is it possible that he's still not 100%?
Maybe. But then WTF is he doing starting? I know Hicks is a foul machine, but we have to have somebody who can actually move his feet on defense, rebound, and finish strong. KM is 0 for 3 in these.

I hope everyone stays that can. Depth is something that is needed when it is hard to predict who will be hurt/slumping/etc next year. But it is clear to this observer that Hicks is better for our chances of winning any game than with Meeks in there. The difference to me is clear and the only thing Meeks offers over Hicks at this point is his passing. But the lack of ability to rise up and run down the court is what makes Hicks the clear choice for starting and getting the most minutes.

if his ability to move his feet laterally on defense is impaired..not 100%..then playing more zone(before the team is behind double digits) should help him be in position to rebound....or is it more probable it is effort/intensity?...he is not the first, second, or third option on offense...as for the NBA-surely even he should recognize his best asset to showcase will be rebounding...his post moves are limited/same for his jumper but...hey, what is his opinion of his game?.....has anyone heard an interview with him after any game describing his play?

Isaiah plays with more intensity - a stronger motor and more grit - than Kennedy. But he also commits 5 fouls in 30 minutes, on average. And he turns the ball over more. He needs to get those under control.

I'd like to see Kennedy return and develop the one thing he's missing - a stronger motor.

Here's the thing about Meeks: are we being fair? We expect him to be better. But why? Every once in a while he has a terrific game and we think that's what he should be doing every game. But maybe he just is what he is - a decent player with good hands and feet and a motor that doesn't rev too high.

You can also argue that Roy doesn't use Kennedy to best advantage. He's been here 3 years. How long does it take to realize he isn't a banger and he isn't a leaper, and he doesn't have a quick release. But he is a good passer. I have never understood why he isn't used a whole lot more as a high post point-center. Even Brice is getting into the assist column - and no one would have accused Brice of being a good passer when he arrived here. Why not Kennedy?

And why don't we use Kennedy to set more interior screens? We have several guys on this team who can drive pretty well, but we give them practically no help. This is a Roy thing. Even Harrison Barnes had trouble driving because he just got no help on his way to the hoop. Reggie Bullock got so the only time he'd drive is if he saw a clear path to the rim. PJ drove a lot as a soph but clanged most of them. Imagine if he had gotten the occasional screen.

When your starting center's best attribute is passing, well, that's not a good thing.

Hicks picked 4 fouls in a mere 19 minutes. He's playing better than Kennedy but he's extremely foul prone. I'm sure Roy would love to play him more.

Right WWJD. Great points. If all KM did was start off "posting" at the FT lane, it'd clog the blocks less, and it'd be a perfect place for our guards to rub off on high ball screens, or even pick and rolls from there. He has a good shot from the FT line in, but the closer he gets to the hoop, wierdly, the more trouble he gets in because he clogs things for Brice, and if he gets it down low among the other team's bigs, he hesitates and does the triple pump fake and gets it blocked back in his grill.

He ought to be able to pass better from the FT line than right on the blocks too.

I've been saying this ever since Kennedy came back from his injury. He's a good passer and can hit the 15 foot jumper. It would open up the lane for our forwards to slash to the hoop. Our spacing just isn't good with Kennedy low on the blocks, too much congestion in the lane. Our whole offense needs to be more spread out, IMO. It would open up more driving lanes for our guards and create better passing lanes.

HUGE POINT in our bigs and absolutely Meeks really need to screen more for each other. Drives me nutzs, meeks will go set up deep on the block and kinda sorta jes hang out there? It is like hey guys, if ya need me ya know where I will be, down here deep on the block where I can get my shot blocked? Move ya freakin feet, screen and roll off to another screen and then look to set up.

might be next year's offense, if Bradley is the only true big...cannot play without rest, fouls, mismatches...RW will have to adjust like it or not
