TarHeelIllustrated - No NCAA Bid For North Carolina
North Carolina will not be a part of the NCAA Tournament for just the fourth time since 1975.

I do appreciate the honesty here and in recent articles. No sugar coating this, it was a huge disappointment.I'll say this here: This is one of the greatest underachievements I've ever seen in sports. Truly remarkable.
I think last March kind of made us forget how mediocre we were last year. I expected us to make the tournament this year, but I always thought the expectations were way too high.I'll say this here: This is one of the greatest underachievements I've ever seen in sports. Truly remarkable.
Pretty much a low point for the program given the expectations and preseason ranking. Hubert and staff contributed in lots of ways to a disappointing and underachieving season. Hopefully he will learn from this but given the lack of adjustments throughout the season, I’m not sure he will or that he’s capable.
Being on the inside do you see any heat coming to bare on the coaching staff for such an incredibly disappointing (lack of) effort?Expectations they completely brought on themselves.
I think the most disappointing thing about this season was with all the upperclassmen there was absolutely zero lack of team, or individual leadership on the floor and that's is so NOT UNC bball.Worst coached UNC team I’ve ever seen in my 45 plus years of religiously watching them. I’m not mad or upset as I’m writing this because I’ve said it since the second game of this season. Hubert never held the starters accountable for bad, lazy play. Nance did not deserve starter minutes. Hubert killed the team in several ways but by not holding the starters accountable he let a very talented bench go without developing any experience or what their rolls were. Caleb’s disappearing act, terrible shot selections, pouting and lazy play go without keeping him in line did not benefit him or the team. RJ tries so hard but his dribbling the ball into the ground and tunnel vision kept him from improving his overall game. Having Bacot try and set screens 25 feet from the basket while the shot clock was winding down and throwing up prayer shots was absurd. We have all of these former Tar Heel coaches but they are running 4-1 sets that was not in line with the players Hubert put out there. It’s embarrassing and humiliating that this veteran team could not beat enough teams to at least make the field. 2 Junior former McDonald’s AA’s starting in the back court is unheard of in todays game and yet either one of them could not make the other players around them better. Bacot was just so inconsistent but he, like RJ and Leaky gave it their all. My hope is that Hubert really looks in the mirror and reevaluates his coaching style because to have Puff, Nickel and Washington to not ever have their rolls defined and to play a minimum of 15-20 minutes every single game was ludicrous. Thank God Nance is gone and I hope that Caleb takes his game overseas. Thanks Leaky for giving us your all. Bacot I hope and pray comes back. With Wilcher and High and maybe Cadeau, Jackson reclass. We need Cadeau. I’m not a fan of reclassifying but these guys are already 19 so they are ready. Hubert better get this together because the honeymoon is way over now. Another thing I’m one of Hubert’s biggest supporters
Or maybe last season was one of the greatest overachievements?! I’m starting to wonderI'll say this here: This is one of the greatest underachievements I've ever seen in sports. Truly remarkable.

Can you speak to anything about why there were so few offensive changes throughout the year? I know we switched up defensive scheme a lot, but very little differently on offense. Never benched anyone for selfish play, started the same two limited forwards all year, very little motion incorporated, etc. I know the team had a limited bench in terms of skill but the lack of changes still seemed pretty surprising.I'll say this here: This is one of the greatest underachievements I've ever seen in sports. I understand your point but for a large portion of Carolina fans (I have no idea the percentage tbh) just a basketball coach is not what we want, expect and frankly love about Carolina basketball. If Dean Smith was just another basketball coach it wouldn’t mean anything to me, just like all the other sports teams I’ve liked and then stopped caring about. This program is special to whatever that percentage is for reasons somewhat unrelated to basketball. It won’t always be that way I’m sure but it is valuable and looking for a coach and staff that have ties to DES and/or Roy by association makes sense at least somewhat for those reasons. That is what happens when you decide that social justice and equality are determining factors in the hiring process that with ohh ohh we got to keep it in the family !
Next time we need a basketball coach , hopefully we just get the best coach we can get !
Yeah.... I don't even know what to expect for next season now. Not sure how this happens. Obviously they are trying, so how does so little change? The only defensive switching was really dropping in coverage versus full-blown switching. Hubert ran some traps early but mostly backed off unless they were behind.
The lack of offensive changes I can't explain. Hubert said they were going to but never did.
It's ok. They got paid. Right?I'll say this here: This is one of the greatest underachievements I've ever seen in sports. Truly remarkable.
This is chickens—- in my opinion as I said earlier. Hubert and/or the AD should have to explain this live and take questions, even if it is at Hubert Davis live or something. This is a real bad look. Wow![]()
Thank you for your honesty Andrew.... very rare from someone working so closely with a single team/institution. Your willingness to share this view speaks volumes.I'll say this here: This is one of the greatest underachievements I've ever seen in sports. Truly remarkable.
