Not much to say...

How do you beat that Maryland team and the lose to this Texas team? Shows me that these guys aren't sure if they're good or not... No excuse for losing this game

I think the fact is we won't defend the 3 well percentage wise all season. We are who we are.

We have to limit the attempts. If good teams attempt 24 3's against us, we're going to be in these kinds of games all season because we'll allow a pretty high percentage.

The rebounding sucked today, but realistically, I think that's a fluke. We're a good rebounding team that got owned today. I don't think the 3pt D efficiency is a fluke. So we need to limit the attempts to offset our poor percentage defense.

Certainly not his fault completely, but when Meeks shows up we have a better chance of winning. Also, when you are beaten by three-point shooters, someone is not playing very good defense on the perimeter or blocking out underneath. Texas killed us with second chance shots. We were slow to the ball all game. We have some work to do if we hope to beat tough, rough teams.

^^ this team is what it is ...very enjoyable to watch and damned good at times ...better than last year I think definitely ..but zero killer instinct ...soft after soft after soft players ...not sure what can be done about that ..just try to enjoy the games best as possible and hope we can beat dook at least once ..but I don't think this team sniffs a national championship w out some very good luck

Tough road game in December. Would've liked to win, but this loss will serve the Heels well in the future. Bet Roy lights a fire in practice this week!

Does anyone think it is time to move the 3pt line back? Statistically there is almost no point to shoot 2 pointers if you can make 50% from 3.

REBOUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BOX OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS! I really wanted this game too. Texas has become for Roy williams what Carolina is to Michigan State. Texas has owned us since Roy came back.

Frustrating but I guess it's the same roster from last year minus JP....looks like another year of dominance one night and lackadaisical play the next!

I'm not going to complain about this game. The free throw shooting was excellent. Still the #1 goal is to get the # 1 seed in the East. Cannot lose more the 3 games before the end of the season and must beat Duke at least once

They have a serious lack-of-defense problem. Still have only one go-to 3-point shooter. I'm not sure I see a true Top 10 team here at all.

So you think we're only going to lose once during conference?

It's the same prob everyone is finding out in the NBA. Like popavich said the other day the three point shot is a powerful weapon. If you consistently give open looks due to it being a lower percentage shot some nights the other team will just not miss them. i wish we would just trap the heck out of those ball screens and quit giving help off the guards

It is easy to look at the bad things after a loss but there were some good things to take from this contest as well. Free throw shooting was probably the best I've seen in at least 3 years. Hicks did a tremendous job off the bench and got to the line a bunch.

Hicks does not need to start over Meeks. His inability to rebound really hurts when he is in. I mean, they shot 63% from deep and had a thousand offensive boards and won by two at home. It sucks but it shows how good this team can be. Will they get there consistently? Eh, maybe not, but they can. It is certainly frustrating though.

We definitely have some of the same issues as last year, but hoping that our coaches and experienced team can correct these problems by March. Roy's teams usually play better at the end of the season, so I'm not going to worry about this loss too much.

We will see if this team learns from this loss. We also launched a bunch of meaningless three's when it was not necessary, and we missed.

I know Texas had some big guys, including Ridley who was a load, but how have we gotten to the point where Joel James gets as many or more minutes than Theo Pinson? James had 2 points, 4 fouls. Maybe Pinson could've been the answer sometimes, defending their guards. Its not like they killed us inside. Its the wide open 3's that killed us.....and the fact that Texas could get away with almost any sort of mugging to justify an offensive rebound, including on the last shot.

Would've been really nice to have a couple other guys for us hit open threes, besides Marcus. Berry is usually really solid, but his misses on two wide open threes really hurt.

And we got basically nothing from Nate on either end. That hurts, too.

I just hate how "up" teams get, and how hard they play against us when we are on the road, but you have to expect that and get up for the game and outfight them if you want to be a title contender. This team still seems a long way from the mental toughness, killer instinct to "bring it" every game for 40 minutes against tough opponents. I was worried before this game, that we'd have this sort of road letdown.

I think you have to expect playing on the road costing the road team 5-10 points in home cooking officiating, etc., especially against good teams. Again, we have to be way tougher than we are especially at certain front court positions.

What bugs me most is I bet Texas will go on to get beat by some really mediocre teams.... they had their best performance of the year by far against us.

We're pretty much the same team, different year. This team will lose 10+ games for the third straight year.

Pinson could have helped on defense but announcers said he was battling the stomach ache. That being said....I cringed everytime Theo touched the ball today, looked like he was playing offense on skates with oven mitts on his hands. NOT his best effort.

still soft, still don't like to defend, still give up easy shots...and like i've asked before, who in the backcourt will consistently help out paige?????

there's no dominant team this year, thank goodness.

I'll keep it general without going in on a few players who frankly are absolute pussies half the time they are in the court.

First off, Texas played about as good as they can play, however, they are not a great team. They have no business beating us. And lastly, we are watching the same team this year who has lost double digit games each year during their time at the hill. They were severely overhyped by the media simply because we return a lot of players. We return a lot of inconsistent, soft kids with no killer instinct. Zero ability to nut up and make a play down the stretch on a consistent basis. We have 2 head cases playing in the post who look like all Americans one night and then Swiss cheese the next. Our guards can score with the best of them but defensively we are yet to show an ability to stop dribble penetration which leads to wide open 3s given our defensive philosophy. Overall, we just aren't where we need to be and frankly I'm sad to say that I don't believe we have the pieces to cut down the nets. We are national champs on paper but nobodies when it comes to consistently playing at a high level against quality competitor.

Yep, the 3 pointer is MORE than the ultimate equalizer today. Look at Steph Curry. He's averaging 46.5% on an average of 11.2 attempts from deep this season. That's the equivalent of averaging almost 70% from inside the arc on the same number of shots. And with the college 3 point line being the equivalent of a mid range shot at the next level, there are QUITE A FEW kids that can spray it from deep. The game is evolving gentlemen into a game of pace and space where the only "good" shots are layups/dunks and 3's. Everything else is of low value. It would not shock me to see a game in 10 years where there are ZERO dominant centers and everyone plays a "small ball" 5 out style offense.

What if they made the 3 worth 2.5? I don't know if you can move it out any further, especially in the NBA unless you change
The court dimensions

Force them off of the 3 point line. Add a 4 point line or make a contested shot at the rim worth 3?
