TarHeelIllustrated - Numb Heels Struggling To Process Sinking Situation
After meetings and motivational tactics, UNC lost again Monday, and the Heels are at a loss about their sinking season.

If the answers come from the players, why do you need the HC?Ouch!
As I mentioned in another thread recently, Dean would occasionally turn to another coach for input. John Thompson is the one who comes to mind but there may have been others. If the answers come from the players, why do you need the HC?
How often did Dean Smith need players to tell him what needs to be done with the team to maximize its potential?

I thought of Jay Wright, too. I assume he would want to reach out to a friend, and don't know if they are friends. Hubert is said to be a hugely personable guy, so I assume he has friends who coach. But does he have any friends who are good coaches? It's true though. Why are we continuing to ask these young men the same, tough questions, but Hubert for the most part has gotten a pass? To pretend he's had his feet to the fire up to this point is comical. He rarely fields a tough question and when he does, he gives some cliche coach quote about getting back to work and being better the next time out and the reporters let him off the hook. Rinse and repeat.
If I'm Hubert, I'm reaching out to Roy, Jay Wright, Mark Few, whoever will take my damn call for HELP because he clearly needs it.

I wonder how much Hubert is talking to Roy? Because I see very little that strikes me as relating to how Roy wanted his teams to play, it is almost the anti Roy scheme? It strikes me more as Hubert has formed this opinion of how he thinks we should play based on how the NBA plays, thing is you have to have 5 NBA players on the court to execute what the NBA does. What do you think the results will be when you are asking your players to do things they are not good at?As I mentioned in another thread recently, Dean would occasionally turn to another coach for input. Is there another coach that Hubert should be calling?
What's Larry Brown doing these days? Just kidding. Or am I?

I got blasted last season for mentioning Larry Brown being able to help Hubert. I don’t think the family has a better consigliere. What's Larry Brown doing these days? Just kidding. Or am I?
Your word choice seems oddly appropriate.I got blasted last season for mentioning Larry Brown being able to help Hubert. I don’t think the family has a better consigliere.
It is bad that the kids seem to be letting off court stuff impact their on court play. I still have hope they will turn it around and I think winning out from here is a possibility! Roy couldn't get these kids to play any better so I don't think a coach with no relationship would help! Hubs will have his guys in place next season and even more help coming in the next. HIs ability to coach can not be gauged until he as his type players and time to grow into the job!

Bennett would likely first wonder why the players were not taught proper defense at the start of their college careers, and why the previous coaching staff did not relentlessly practice proper defense, so they could play proper defense in games. What would be a better scheme for our players?
How would they do if they had been coached by Tony Bennett all year, for example?
Or if they used John Chaney's matchup zone defense?
Or played the Princeton offense?
Getting back to Tony Bennett for a second . . . If he took over this team, which would he be more likely to say:
"Wow, look at all the talent I have to work with"
- OR -
"OMG, can anyone on this team play defense?"
Maybe both?
Who would Bennett start?
Is there a list somewhere other than Pomeroy that rates teams on D?Bennett would likely first wonder why the players were not taught proper defense at the start of their college careers, and why the previous coaching staff did not relentlessly practice proper defense, so they could play proper defense in games.
We have enough but not stellar athleticism and skills, but we clearly and unquestionably have one of the worst defensive teams in the P5.

To be fair, we had a LOT of good years from Roy.I have to admit back in the days when Dean was coaching I would wonder what would life be like without Dean….man I have to say I never thought it would be this bad. But ever since Dean retired, and other than a couple of good years from Roy, Carolina basketball has never been the same. There are games that we frequently lose that dean would have never lost. I miss the “real Carolina basketball”. I miss the master Dean Smith.
Still could be undefeated the rest of the way.A couple more practices and it will all click.
Undefeated the rest of the way.
You keep denigrating anyone who even remotely criticizes Hubert. The agenda appears to be yours. What exactly would evidence of what the coaches teach in practice look like??? Have you coached anything higher than Parks and Rec bball? If you have, then you know that sometimes when under stress players lose sight of what the coaches teach and revert to either hero ball or hesitate! Some peeps never get out of that rut also! 2 coaches and 1 of them in the HOF couldn't cure these guys from these lapses, but peeps lay it all on our current coach.....sounds like either ignorance or an agenda!
