Number 1 rated Bracketologists Final Projection / Selection Sunday Thread.

Not complaining, just asking some of you that are more familiar with how the tournament pairings are determined. Why is UCLA in the South and not Florida State? Seems like quite a bit of travel that would be helped by switching these #3 seeds. UCLA ranked 8th in the country and FS ranked 16th.

Yikes, Orange were matched up Sunday night against UNC Greensboro in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament. Jim Boeheim might be have a few serious sleepless nights upcoming.

Agree with the stylistic play. I call it slow ball. Similar to Wisconsin, Virginia and Miami. I don't think the talent level is as high but smart and methodical play.

Depends on the s curve. My guess is Kentucky was the top 2 and FSU was a higher 3.

That said, they try to spread the brackets on the top 3 teams picked from a conference. For all I know, it may be the top 3 seeds from a conference. FSU seems deliberately to have been split up from the other ACC teams.

Kentucky was the top 2 seed so they drew a lower 3 seed.

If 4 teams from the same conference are seeded 1-4 (committees ranks not conference seeding), then they cannot be in the same regional. The ACCs 1-4 UNC/Duke/UL/FSU had to be split up among the 4 regionals. Zona/Oregon/UCLA had to go to 3 separate regionals as well.

Thanks for saving me the research as I was already on the trail to find the answer. I had heard exactly this earlier today on sports radio but wasn't focused in enough on it to give an appropriate answer.

From the NCAA website:

Each of the first four teams selected from a conference shall be placed in different regions if they are seeded on the first four lines.

Teams from the same conference shall not meet prior to the regional final if they played each other three or more times during the regular season and conference tournament.

Teams from the same conference shall not meet prior to the regional semifinals if they played each other twice during the regular season and conference tournament.

Teams from the same conference may play each other as early as the second round if they played no more than once during the regular season and conference tournament.

Thanks to all for the clarification. Too many rules if you ask me. Simplify them all. Who cares if play Florida State in the first round or wait til the FF. Seed the teams and play the games. Too many frigging rules that ultimately can give advantages without the intention.

As stated above. This gives me an unneeded headache.

Would of been even better if it was to be played in Greensboro
