OK Cowboy fans, who do you want RG3 or Johnny Football?

Id argue that using "black" as a synonym for ghetto, thug, and diva is closer to being racist than disliking a player, who happens to be black, for overly showboating and looking like a douche.

I guess haters are going to hate. As far as I know or have saw, cam has not crossed that proverbial line. If he played for Dallas I suppose I would hate it to. If you want him to stop, then ban it across the board. As stern as the owner and head coach are, they don't seem to mind. And yes, Norman has gone to more extreme with his antics. The panthers are full of alpha males and many will let you know if given the chance

Oh, I think they've learned plenty about him. It may not be about his ability to play football. But we've all learned plenty about Johnny Football. And what I've learned and apparently what the Browns learned was that no matter how talented he is (and I don't think he's all that talented anyway), he ain't worth the shenanigans.

all i know is cutler had the same rep(not alcohol so much) and that got him a ticket to chicago from denver and then almost out of the league...different type of player, but he was all but blackballed three years ago.

i think he can win games, he has a live arm, and he's mobile...if he had a any sort of talent around him and he wanted to be there, i think he'd be fine.

the best part is, his next destination won't be as pressure packed...he's now not a first round pick, he'll get a minimum salary, and if it doesn't work out, he'll be cut.

I think Johnny Football (he doesn't even deserve such a cool nickname, BTW) is a super douche.

Here's the ONE and ONLY man that should ever be referred to as Johnny Football...

I'd like to get some Panthers fans thoughts on this Cam thing to see if you agree or disagree with my take. (Read like the last 5-6 posts of this thread). @TarHeelMark @coolwaterunc @bleeduncblue @Blue2010 @Raising Heel

For the most part, I agree that a lot of the Cam hate regarding how he celebrates is thinly veiled racism. Most people are fine with WR's, RB's and DB's reacting a certain way, but not the QB, for gosh sakes!

I've never been a huge fan of it, but for two distinctly different reasons:

1. I think it's more of a generational thing. I'm 52 and the QB's I grew up watching and admiring (Bradshaw, Staubach, Tarkenton, Stabler, Montana, Elway, et al) didn't celebrate like that. Today's generation is different, and it's something I've had to get used to. Doesn't necessarily mean I love it, but I'm starting to accept it (tolerate it?).

2. As a Panthers fan, I always felt like I want my QB to have his head completely "IN THE GAME", and would prefer that he's more concerned about the next play than trying to get the crowd fired up when the O-Line is getting into a scuffle with the opposing team's D-Line (which he's done on a few occasions; not this season, but in previous years). However, maybe in his own way, it helps him to stay loose, which is more beneficial to his on-field performance.

That being said, Cam does TRULY look like a guy who is just having fun out there. He doesn't deliberately get in other players faces and taunt them. He doesn't flip off the opposing team's fans. He is simply celebrating a good play by him or his team. Most of the on-field crap happens when other teams try to start something, like take the ball away after a Panther's TD and prevent Cam from giving a football to a kid. Stop Cam and the Panthers from scoring if you don't want to see it.

I do think he's liable to tone it down a bit as he (likely) wins the MVP, and (hopefully) wins the Super Bowl this year. I don't recall seeing Aaron Rodgers do the discount double check much lately. I think as he's matured (and won a Super Bowl and MVP), he doesn't feel the need to prove it to everyone else as much. Time will tell, but I can't imagine seeing Cam still do the Superman 7 - 8 years from now.

I didn't think he was actually addicted to anything other than being a douchebag asshole. I kind of feel bad if he really has some kind of chemical dependency.

i was going to post that several days ago but then just thought better of it...now I figure the truth will probably come out now anyway so might as well share. my guys are front office guys from a few different teams.

Here are my thoughts on Cam Newton:

Before I say anything, let me just say that people tend to take sports way too seriously. I mean, look at us on these message boards after a loss. Everyone starts chewing each other out and acting like they want to kill each other. It's a game, people, chill the F out. People tend to think quarterbacks have to be this serious drill sergeant leading their army to the battlefield or something. Cam Newton is proving that it's okay to smile and have fun playing a game you love to play. The fact people actually have a problem with that is completely asinine, to me. This guy is a 26 year old dude living a dream leading his team to a 15-win season to the Super Bowl and an MVP season on the highest level possible. Look at it this way, if I was accomplishing all of this when I was 26 years old, you better believe I'm smiling, dancing and having the damnedest good time of my life too. Nobody has seen anything like Cam before, and people don't know how to react to it, so they naturally resist it. Lighten the F up and appreciate what this man is doing.

Cam Newton has completely changed the culture of that franchise and the city of Charlotte. He's made living here pretty freaking cool. I mean, we had a Super Bowl party at work, and we managed to get 600+ people in the front of the building, and we all dabbed for a company photo. Personally, I think the whole dabbing thing is pretty stupid, but it's cool. It's our thing down here, and we've kind of just ran with it. Charlotte has never had a real face of sports before until Cam Newton arrived. I've never seen this place so amped up about a sports franchise since the Hornets in the early 90s when they were selling out every game. I wasn't here for that, at least I've heard about it.

This guy is out there handing out footballs to kids and basically partying on the field, and I think it's cool to see. He is breath of fresh air to me. As long as he's not showboating and taunting his opponents, there's nothing wrong with what he's doing at all. Live your life and have fun doing it. Life is short, and you don't have that much time to do it. Cam is doing just that, and I think it's awesome to watch.
