Was in Siler City today as a burger tourist trying to find a burger to take down Melvin's as King of the best burger in the state . Well they have a antique store down the road from Johnson's Drive in. After confirming that Johnson's burgers were not as good as Melvin's I went to the antique store. The store is so big that after an hour of looking around I was heading for the door but decided to take a look down one more isle. There I found baseball cards. I found a unopened box of Fleer Cards for the 1988 season and it says it has 800 cards in it. I don't know if that is a card for each player on each roster or what but they have not been opened and at 10 bucks that was 5 cents for every 4 cards so I bought it. Then I bought a new set for 1989 that said it had 650 cards and 45 stickers for 10 bucks and a 1991 set for 10 bucks. I figure I will pass them down to the kids one day . Would be nice if there was a card in one of these sets that could allow me to go ahead and retire early. A day goofing around in Siler City is better than a cold day on the dock. Maybe next as Andy or Goober would say I can ride over to Mt. Pilot ! Anyways what you think about my roughly 30 yr old baseball card collection? At a total of 30 bucks I don't feel bad about what I paid . I blow that much on a average monday at the house of health on supplements.

Good luck. You might just find one that’s worth something.

I ended up inheriting well over 10k baseball cards that my dad had when he passed away. Unfortunately most of them were from that late 80’s / early 90’s period, which a friend of mine that runs a sports collectible shop called the “junk era”. However, there may be a few good ones to look for - rookie cards of future HOF’ers are always good. Hope you find a few.

quick check of the internet , seems I still have to go to work in the morning ! No retirement cards in this bunch ! I did just buy out my bother in laws half of the in laws house and I was told he collected a lot of baseball cards in the 1970's and that they are in the attic. As the new owner of the property I think I will check one weekend and see if my retirement card is up there. There are 2 70's era Schwinn bikes in the storage building if someone wants to make an offer on them :D also a 50 year old child's tractor toy that would be nice to restore.

Baseball cards highest value was in early 90's. I have a ton of old ones and just holding on hoping they go up again one day.

I've got a card that my grandfather gave me before he passed away. It's of Ty Kob. Anyone know if it's worth anything?

My dad had a ton of really valuable ones when he was younger and his brother used them for target practice.

I have a few worth around hundred each and a lot worth anywhere from 10 to 50 or so. My Jordan second year Fleer is my favorite. I used to have this really cool Peyton card with a bunch of pinholes that when turned a certain way formed a silhouette or his face or something. No idea where it is. I think there were only 50 of them or something but doubt it is worth anything. My main days of collection were during the mass production era.

I have about 100 UNC Basketball trading cards that came from somewhere. I don't think any are of value, but it's kind of neat to remember some of the old players and see their stats. Kind of like this card on ebay (not my listing.)

I have a fairly large collection; probably 3000-4000 that I’ve turned over to my kids. That’s all sports combined and I’d say it breaks down like this:

Baseball - 40%
Basketball - 30%
Football - 20%
Misc sports (hockey, NASCAR, minor league, etc.) - 10%

The great majority of my cards fall between the years 1975 and 2000 with my baseball and football cards generally being older than my basketball cards. My boys have added a few hundred football cards in recent years but they seem to be over it now. Most aren’t worth much but I do have a few of significant value with a mid 50s Yogi Berra (between $300-$400) being my best card.

They have a bunch at the counter in Sutton’s. I let my boys get one or two every time we go.
