I live in GBoro, and it's definitely pretty cool how they are rebuilding an otherwise dead part of town. Is there something new happening over there?
I did hear that the plant down the road past revolution as you are going away from the city is going to be renovated and turned into apartments with work starting this summer. It is the old cotton mill behind the softball field just off Yanceyville Road.

TarHeelMark where are you in Greensboro? I am in Mcleansville in Northeast part of the county right off Hicone down from Northeast High. about 10 minutes from downtown Greensboro.

best I can remember you got a boy played baseball over there , how is doing >? He in college now?
Yeah, he did. He is about to graduate from HS. He had a stress fracture in his L5 vertebrae in football his junior year and missed the last half of the season. He was healed up enough by the time baseball tryouts started but was in the batting cage with the coach last spring the week before tryouts and ended up with a stress fracture in the L4 and missed the whole season.

Fortunately he played football this fall (his senior season) and really had a fantastic season. He didn’t come off the field for any game as he kicked, punted, played WR and DB. Thankfully he stopped kicking about half way through the season and got some rest. Was all conference honorable mention, team made it to the third round of the state playoffs and he ended up with a ton of highlights. Senior night against Northern Guilfotd was the best game he had. Had over 100 yards receiving, one TD, one INT, one pass breakup and several tackles, including one where he lit up the RB on a screen pass and broke it up. It was the first time they beat Northern in school history

Anyway, he decided he was done playing baseball since he missed last season. He is still working out every day, but has no plans to play in college in any sport. Football coach asked him about it and said there were a few smaller colleges interested in talking to him, but he just wants to go to college and be a kid

He is headed to ECU in the fall and wants to be a physical therapist.

Surprised you remember. Didn’t you have a kid playing ball as well?

I haven’t seen that place since they did that work. That is gorgeous. I have an architectural background so that kind of stuff really interests me.

What’s in the place? Is it retail shopping, offices or what? Might have to check it out

My kid played at North east and had trouble with his elbow so no more baseball for him. He plays a lot of soccer and basketball with friends . He got a big scholarship to Guilford College and his Grandmother really wanted him there as Grandpa graduated for Guilford College. He went for a yr. then memaw died and he said he only went for her and didn't have the heart to do the work there .
Revolution Mill, it is my understanding that it is a mix use site. Apartments , restaurants , other entertainment and retail , Place for weddings and receptions and office space for business. I absolutely love the reimagined use of old buildings . And the old cotton mill right down the road from it is getting that same love starting this summer.
On a side not I heard the old packard Plant in Detroit , someone is gonna try and do somethng with part of it. Though alot of it is in ruins now.

That is the trend nowadays. Wife is from down east and loves the Vivian Howard show on PBS. We went to the Boiler Room for our anniversary last year and couldn't believe how downtown Kinston has been transformed. My BIL works refinishing floors with concrete they can make look like pretty much whatever you want. He was working there over Christmas and staying in the old train depot that had been renovated into a condo that was really cool.

Personally, I love that people are renovating old buildings. Lots of character and really cool when done right.

Wish somebody would renovate the old mill in Washington. My understanding is the same guys that bought our marina next door have bought this as well, but I don't know if/when/what they're thinking of doing with it. It'd make an awesome restaurant or brewery, maybe with a simple oyster bar area on the lower floor which floods. But most of what's there would be hard to save at this point.
