Our frontcourt is a mess

All our bigs are back-up level quality. We don't have a single big on this roster that should be starting for UNC.
Lubin might get there - but he'll have to get more PT for that to happen.

The problem for Hubert, of course, is if you give Lubin the PT over JWash and JWit and he does not get there, you just wasted a lot of PT that could have advanced someone else.

But I would still vote for doubling Lubin's PT, if basketball was a democracy.

We have a great back court and wings, but they play way too much Lone Ranger.

Our front court is . . . what's the word I'm looking for? . . . BAD.

Hubert has his hands full. It's 100% his team. He got the players he wanted, except for a top post player.

To be fair, this team is only struggling against the teams we're supposed to struggle against. The problem is that if we're going to be a top team, we need to be more competitive against other top teams.

Maybe tonight? Home court advantage can't hurt. Unless maybe we continue to play poorly in the first half and dig yet another deep hole. Plus, this is a grudge match for us (or should be).

Hubert needs to figure this out. It's what he gets the big bucks to do. We're UNC - and UNC is supposed to do better than this. Yeah, yeah, we've been spoiled with so many years of Dean and Roy. But, like it or not, that's the standard expected of UNC.

Hubert needs to fix this or his seat should be very hot next year.

It's embarrassing. And it's clearly what the big money boosters want. So there's nothing we can do to fix the problem. We'll be even less talented next season.

There are a few posters on this board who posted a lot of BS hyping up some of these bigs over the summer.
Stackhouse recommended Lubin. Nuff said.

JWash was supposed to be 100% and rust free.

JWit was going to turn the corner with a year under his belt in the system and getting to start.

While I worried that JWash might turn out to be our next Sterling Manley, I did expect more from JWit and Lubin.

If Washington starts tonight, my first offensive possession I'm running a play for him. Just to get him engaged right away.

Sounds reasonable.

We have a few players who need jump-starting by having plays run for them. By which I mean actually running plays for them. Plays that get them open and get them the ball where they can do some damage. Not just getting them the ball so they can freelance.

It's hard to imagine any of our bigs being effective against Alabama. Even if Grant Nelson (6'11 230) isn't as unconscious against us as he was last year, he's still a top-notch starter. And then, of course, they also got Clifford Omoruyi (6'11 250) from the portal, and he's having a decent season (not big numbers but very efficient). Nor does it stop there, since they have 6'10 240 and 6'11 215 coming off the bench.

If ANY of our bigs do well tonight I'll be impressed.

If Washington and Withers both start tonight after the way they played in Maui, and Powell comes off the bench, I just might break my remote.

I really don't expect Hubert to launch an experiment against another tough component. Give the regulars 1 more game to show they can get their act together. If they do, great. If not, nobody will disagree that a shakeup is warranted.

I fear changing the lineup now is basically just throwing the new guys under the bus. I mean if you start the usual and they continue to disappoint, you've basically confirmed what we're all starting to think. Whereas if you start a different group and they lose, what have you learned?

We have Ga Tech and La Salle ahead. If the standard starters fail again, use those games to rearrange the deck chairs.

Then again, we just had a week off. If a new starting lineup has been practicing together all that time, then by all means go for it. But I think we might have heard something if that was the case.

Any insider info?

FWIW, Pomeroy has us winning a squeaker thanks to home court advantage.

Ditto for Duke against Auburn.

In fact, all the ACC games tonight could be squeakers, except UVa at Florida.

They better not sleep on Georgia Tech though. Conference opener, but adjustments should and will be made. The problem, or big one, is the 6 of the 8 who have stepped up to form the core are very redundant 1 through 3 positions, most undersized.

A big is going to have to be a plus, or at least not a minus at either the 4 or 5. Small ball is one thing, bur the "tiny" ball lineup with Drake at the 4 will get hammered by teams with any solid bigs.

Maybe tonight will be the night RJ finds his mojo. We have a good shot at this win if he gets back on track.
Tonight sets up nicely for a win. Realistically they got embarrassed in Maui. They come back home after some time off. They're hearing (from people like me) how bad they are. It would've been more ideal if Alabama was coming off a win over Oregon vs a loss. So they'll want to bounce back too. But I think it's a good spot for UNC.

It will be an opportunity to see which preseason All-American gets their season back on track. RJ or Mark Sears. Both players have been equally bad to start the season.

I feel if UNC has a convincing win, then there will be quite a bit of overreaction to it.

They are 2 point favorites, Sears has struggled, but I worry about their athletic bigs, and overall length. Not a great matchup, but we are at home. Let's get 'em.

Not just getting them the ball so they can freelance.
The players we are referring to dont have the ability to freelance, they are not good enough to do it at the major college basketball level. The sad part is all us recliner coaches can see it but the one being paid millions can't.

5 minutes into the Bama game and Washington can't grab rebounds, Lubin can't guard ball screens, and Withers' first offensive touch was classic Withers forcing his own turnover.
