Phil Mickelson Busted for Insider Trading

I used to like Dufner until Amanda left him. Now, there's absolutely no reason to like him. I feel sorry for him. But I don't root for him anymore.

Tiger? So you dislike a guy that signs autographs for kids, leaves absurdly large tips for servers, says all the right things, smiles on the golf course and generally looks like he's having a blast and you like a guy that's stoic when he's not throwing clubs and cussing, generally ignores the fans, is always making excuses for his bad play and he ruined his career and life by cheating on his super hot wife with a Perkins waitress and another 20 women? I'm sorry if I don't understand that.

Spieth - now he's edgy. I think I saw him drinking a Mountain Dew Code Red.
Hey I freely admit that my likes and dislikes don't have any rhyme or reason lol. I sorta straddle the line of whether I want to root for a guy who's real buttoned up and professional (Spieth) or a guy who's a redneck (Dufner) or just a competitive loon (Tiger).

I prefer my tour players to be buttoned up. Which is why I don't like Dustin Johnson.

The thread has gone in a different direction than I was hoping (but who am I to try to control the whims of the OOTB faithful?). So rather than continuing to try to use this as a point that fixing sports and the impact of gambling and money on outcomes is more prevalent than some people seem to believe, I'll succumb to just giving my opinions on golfers as well...

I've flip flopped on DJ a bunch. He's a choker, and comes off as a general dbag - which are reasons to not root for him. But the whole cocaine debacles and dating Paulina Gretzky get me back in his corner. Something about imagining him blowing lines off of Paulina's tits if he ever wins a major gets me rooting for him.

I root for Fowler, Mahan, Rory, Kuchar and Spieth for the most part - Keegan Bradley (Boston) and Davis Love III (UNC) for homer rooting interests. There are some that I root against: Adam Scott, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, and the non-Els South Africans (mainly Schwartzel and Oostheisen).

There are very few golfers I don't like. Granted, I don't know any of them personally so I just rely on how they are presented on TV. But I like some more than others.

Phil is probably my favorite golfer ever. I love everything about him. I love that he may be a little cocky with other players on tour (the whole FIGJAM thing is hilarious to me). But I love the image he presents. More professional athletes should be like him - putting their best image out for the public.

I like Spieth but he does a few things I don't like. I hate when golfers hit a shot and their body language is demonstrative in a way to say, "that was a terrible shot" and then it ends up 12' from the pin as if they should have gotten so much closer. He does this. He also violently swings clubs after not hitting shots he likes which is so Tiger and the main reason I never rooted for Tiger. The fist pumping is also a little cliche and kind of gets on my nerves. But, with that said, he is very young and I'm hoping he'll learn. And in interviews and press conferences, he's a pro. Very polished and says all the right things. Always says "we" instead of I and I love that. He's team oriented. Huge future in front of that kid.

I'm mixed on McIlroy. He really irked me when he won his last major and sat in the press conference naming off players that he's already surpassed in number of majors won. I thought that was low class and I think he did get a little too big for his britches. And from what I understand, he shit on that tennis player he was dating.

I like Fowler and hope he wins a major soon. I like Jason Day and his awesome story. I've always liked Matt Kuchar even though he's disappointed me time and time again in majors. I like Adam Scott fine - better now that he had to get rid of the stupid long putter. Dustin Johnson is ok. I feel sorry for him because I don't think he has what it takes to win a major.

I'm not big on the Euro guys except for some ol' timers. Paul Casey annoys me as does Poulter, and Luke Donald. And I don't like Stenson much either.

Vijay Singh is my least favorite golfer of all time.

I like Fowler a lot. Agree completely on Vijay. I also don't like Jimenez because of some of the stories I've heard about him.

If one likes edgy they should pull for some of the Euro guys.

And, no, I do not think Phil ever did anything shady to throw a tournament or anything like that. First, it would be way too difficult to do that sort of thing in golf. I mean, odds in golf don't work that way. Second, I just don't think he would.

I use to not care that much for Phil until I went to a TPC that was in Atlanta a while back. As he was coming of the green he handed his golf ball to a little girl. After I saw that he was cool by me.

I fail to see how this story deals with how gambling and money have an impact on fixing sports. If that was your intent it would have been better to talk about the black sox or horse racing.

I dont like golf. Actually i despise it as a spectator sport. I know i'm in the minority here and amongst my friends but i cant help it. Golf and nascar. Even if they were combined i wouldnt gaf. I dunno, maybe its cause u can smoke a cigarette while doing either.

I go to the Wells Fargo tournament in Charlotte every year. Phil has given a ball to my daughter, fist bumped all 3 of my kids numerous times, and talked to my two daughters when he was on the practice range. Justin Rose also is fan friendly, giving high fives and fist bumps. Fowler doesn't, Bubba doesn't, Tiger sure doesn't, and honestly 95% of them do not do that stuff. Phil makes people like him bc of the way he acts at a golf tournament. If that's wrong then I don't know why what the right way for athletes to act is...
