We have scattered mentions of big guys in the portal. It occurred to me that it might be useful to have one thread dedicated to them.

This guy tops Tovik's list. I confess I don't understand his grading system, but topping the list can't be bad.

This guy may not be as big as he's listed (to my eye) but he moves really well, with and without the ball. Reminds me a bit of Singler, but taller.

Looks like a JWit replacement - which is either good or bad depending on how you feel about JWit. Good quickness. Slow release but reasonably accurate from deep.

Height and weight. He should be hard to move out of the lane. He should be able to set firm screens that hard to go around. He should be able to box out for rebounds.

Can he pass the ball? Can he move his feet on D? Does he have a reasonably soft touch? Can he hit open 15 foot shots? Does he have stamina?

If we find ourselves in the market for a 6'8 center - such as if Lubin leaves - this guy is worth a look. Crap from deep, but strong inside, and good from the stripe.

This rising soph came off the bench for Illinois. Doubtless looking to start.

You know he's tough if he's willing to be seen on national TV with the hairstyle we see in the video.

Seems to thrive against contact inside. Rebounds very well. Per 40 = 16 and 15. I bet Sean would love to work with this kid.

This guy's stat line seems like a typo- 17.6 ppg, 12.5 rpg, 2.9 apg and over 66% from 3? That and he's 6'11 260?

I guess when you play that level of competition you can stuff the stat box.

The video made me think a bit of Armando. Not a lot of elevation, but gets the job done around the basket.

I assume there's some reason why we haven't heard about contacts with Cluff, but that kind of inside presence seems worth a look.

Another rising soph who averaged around 17 mpg. As I said in the other thread:

Kid has stretch 4 written all over him. Fluid, quick. But that FT% is troubling. Don't usually see consistently good outside shooters with crappy FT%. Not worried about his rebounding (yet), since he was on a team with a couple of superior rebounders.

Reneau and Davidson are 4s, not true 5s. I think/hope Hubert has learned we need a true center, not an undersized guy like Lubin. Given he recently mentioned "we need to get bigger in the portal", it seems like he has.

So long as Wilson is onboard I don't see us being super attractive to the 4s anyway. I think a trio of bigs like Gwath, Lubin, and Wilson would be a pretty nice rotation for the 4/5 spots.

You don't think we need a true 4 or another stretch 4?

If we keep Drake, I'd like to see Drake and Wilson split the SF slot Then Wilson can split the PF position with a legit 4.

How would you divide the minutes?

Don't be surprised if this Noah Williamson kid ends up as one of our top 2 or 3 wants because he is a great fit. There is another name out there, I can't share it but join and you can see who on 4Cs but would be a fabulous fit.
But he had 7 and 5 against Uk, 7 and 9 against UMD, 16 and 2 against the Zags and 12 & 8 vs Cuse. The biggest issue is he didn’t have one block against any of those teams. Hard Pass

Is it Kalkenbrenner (AGAIN!)?😆

I think he's visiting Bama today ...

No true 5 wants to play for Hubert Davis and this BS system he runs…He has yet to get a true 5 since he has been Head Coach…

Are we looking at any bigs overseas?

If we've hired an expensive staff to look for good players and they are ignoring foreign players, that seems like an oversight.

We need immediate impact players. The portal is more likely to offer that. We're definitely going to pursue international players, but expect those recruitments to play out similar to high school recruitments.
