Portal Bigs

This rising soph came off the bench for Illinois. Doubtless looking to start.

You know he's tough if he's willing to be seen on national TV with the hairstyle we see in the video.

Seems to thrive against contact inside. Rebounds very well. Per 40 = 16 and 15. I bet Sean would love to work with this kid.

Johnson to Michigan to play with Cadeau.

Yaxel Lendeborg to Michigan. Which gives Cadeau the #1 and #7 (Morez Johnson) PFs in the portal to pass to. (On3 rankings.)

Dusty May is off to a good start in his 2nd year at Michigan.

These are the top big men left according to both 247 and On3

Flory Bidunga - 6'9 220
Alvaro Folgueiras - 6'9 215
Reed Bailey - 6'10 230

Are we engaged with any of them?

Are we looking elsewhere?

Are we done looking for bigs?

There are already videos for Bidunga and Bailey in this thread. Here's one for Folgueiras.

Back when Bob McKillop coached Davidson, you could count on his players to have very sound fundamentals. If the same is true now that his son is coach, I'd give Bailey a close look. He may not have the flash of Bigunda, but his numbers are solid.

Here's his video for those too lazy to look earlier in the thread.

Stop it. We're not blowing more NIL money on another top big. We have actual needs in the starting lineup.

This guy would be nice!

Good point. And he is 230. Weight in the lane.

He got his bag.
Nothing wrong with entering the portal to find out what you're worth, imo. Can you be sure your current team's offer is competitive without actual competition? You might like to think so but that could cost you.

Then again, there's the risk that your current slot will be filled while you are on the market.

Are we done looking for another big? Catchings?

@DaveChapelle obviously thinks we're set. How about you, @DSouthr ?
I sure hope we are still going after another big man. I like Catchings, want us to pull him in but I consider him a 3/4 guy. not really the big man I am looking for but an addition I would like to see in addition to a big man. The Bailey kid would have been nice, the Illict (sp) from Arky would be a great fit. Love Veesaar but he may be more of a 4, even at 7ft, not a guy thatis a safe bet to play Bacot like minutes, need back up plan. If that back up plan it Lubin then we are back to a lot of minutes small in our front court. Are Brown and High really options you are comfortable with for 15-20 mins a game?

Catchings is 6'9", he is a wing that sprouted up in the last year, thin for a POWER forward. Wilson is to me a 4/3 but his NBA position will be as a 3 and that may be his most natural position, there are several plan B bigs out there that would work.

I don't know to what extent Hubert is working the NBA contacts to get Ian and Drake accurate information as to where the NBA may be looking to draft them. I very strongly believe that right now BOTH Ian and Drake have a pretty good idea of where they would be drafted in the next NBA draft, I think they both know what they are most likely to do. It looks like Ian is a early to mid second pick, Drake is a mid to late 1st round pick, I believe it is better than 75% that both leave with Ian being the most motivated to leave now. I think the staff has to look at that reality and recruit accordingly. That is where I love Catchings, as a guy that can move between the 3 and the 4, Wilson between the 4 and the 3, Veesaar between the 5 and the 4, I need a 5 man that is bigger and longer than 6'8" Lubin, not just taller but BIGGER stronger, a guy that physically carves out room to operate. Guess what, the guy many felt was going to enter the portal has not done so, not yet at least, got caught waiting on Raymound and Kalkbrenner last time, not wanting to make that mistake this time.

We've lost RJ and Cadeau. Highly likely we're going to lose Jackson and Powell. Whatever NIL money we have left needs to go towards perimeter talent.

tbh reports are he’ll be back by November/December but you never know. kid is super talented and dunks everything but i don’t think we are in the running for him
We desperately need to add perimeter talent to replace RJ, Cadeau, Jackson, and probably Drake Powell. That will cost a lot of money. We aren't spending anymore money on top bigs. Especially not an expensive big that just blew out his knee.
