Question?

I guess head in the sand for some is best policy. We need a change from the result of 8 years. Rioting is the streets is where we have come.

Where to start is to look at WHY and what is the common denominator in this? Are the majority of the people upset at a certain income level that is similar? Are they people who indeed have be targeted, profiled or whatever unjustly at some time in their life (and repeatedly)? Are they gainfully employed? Education level? and WHY if they are very similar with those answers? WHY are they all at a similar income level? WHY are they profiled as they are? WHY are they employed they way they are or are not?

If they all of them fit this typical profile that conservatives seem to put them all in then yes, let's just blame Obama BUT if there are a variety of folks protesting then you need to take a deeper look. If you have people who are also educated, at a comfortable or above average income level, and have always had an obedience to the laws yet they are finding a need to protest then the problem is not what the conservatives think it is and THEY need to take their head out of the sand and take a good look at this.

I agree that rioting is not the answer. I tend to think that comes from the people who feel the pain of this treatment the most, whether just or not, and this is how they react. I think it is the wrong way to go about things but I do get that sometimes frustration manifests in different forms for different individuals.

Blaming any group (even conservatives as I have done above) is not the answer either. If anything this proves we ALL need to work together and find real answers but most have too much pride and ego to do that. (which will obviously be evidenced below in a few comments I fully expect to see from the typical ones ;) ).

How exactly has Obama and the mayor contributed to the Charlotte riots? I'm not aware of any policy or action by them that has caused this.

Actually, I don't think it comes from the people who feel the most pain. They are the ones that sit at home or protest peacefully. The people who are rioting are just looking for an excuse to do something stupid and act like a bunch of fools. I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of people who riot don't even know what the facts are.

I can see that, sure. I also think though they have probably been profiled a bit more too and that has caused a significant degree of anger in them and they may be reacting this way in a revenge of sorts. I don't think it solves anything but a peaceful protest is definitely opening doors of communication, albiet slowly.

The way the shooting in Tulsa is being handled is getting more results I believe. People are forced to see how unjust that was and this female officer has been charged now. There were no protests or riots there that I am aware of.

The one in Charlotte is still a bit unclear. Did he have a gun or not? who knows? That is still undetermined. Do I trust that a cop would not place a firearm near the man's body when they realized he had just been holding a book? Nope, I do not trust them that much. They know they are being watched and I saw what the idiot did in Charleston when he chased the guy down and I saw him toss a gun near the guy as to make it appear he had a reason to shoot the running suspect.

There IS a problem with cops, but not all cops. There is a problem within the community with idiots making really bad choices which has allowed this profiling to exacerbate and help in creating the problem as it is now. Both sides are to blame.

Obama, Bush, Clinton, none of them are at fault.... we are responsible for our actions and from what I see there is fault to be shared all around in this situation.

Agreed. I think there is an underlying, almost subliminally-anarchist mentality within lower income demographics (disclaimer -- this goes for all races, IMO). The facts in these specific situations are almost irrelevant, other than they provide the trigger needed to kickstart these outbursts...then with the addition of social media and ratings-hungry media...those emotions are amplified far beyond where they should.

Bottom line -- these situations allow (in the mob's eyes) a "free pass" to justifiably create chaos without consequnce. There is no motive in blocking I-277 and looting cargo trucks...other than a free pass at stealing valuable material. Absolutely NOTHING in that starts any dialogue for the root issues truly facing this country. Neither does kicking out windows, punching hotel employees, tackling news reporters on live TV, lighting trashcans on fire in the street...etc. All those do is further divide us on a subliminal level -- lower income demographics largely rally behind these people (probably wishing they were joining in the "fun")...while the rest of us shake our heads at just how barbaric so many in our country can be when presented the opportunity.

Lost in all of this are the issues that are nothing more than a scapegoat / punchline to justify what they are doing.

Spot on.

The Charlotte police chief was quoted as saying that 70% of the protesters who had been arrested (read: committed crimes) had out-of-state licenses. Even considering Charlotte is only 15 minutes from the South Carolina border, that number indicates these situations tend to attract opportunists with bad intentions.

ETA: There were actually a number of peaceful protests in Charlotte last night. You could find videos and other info about the respectful gatherings on people's individual Twitter accounts, but none of them appeared on the news. No mystery why. The media is part of the problem.

+100000

We are a sick society -- these events are a more entertaining version of reality TV, and the news media feeds off of it. The more chaos --> the more ratings. Once the chaos dies down, they are onto the next story.

These protesting in this manor are committing acts just as racist as profiling. I'm black and I'm abused and offended, so I'm going to burn whiteys store down. It's ignorance to the highest degree. If they are profiled as racist, then they asked for it( the ones destroying property)
If you want to protest, learn from the ones during the 60s. The ones that were heard were the level headed ones

So... now I'm starting to get emails at work telling me I need to leave early so I don't get caught up in some planned protests that are happening. @TarHeelNation11 I think the protests are going to be on Peachtree. That's near you right?
