1. ST - good punting, great productivity during returns and coverage considering the athletes we were against. Hollins is a turbo-jet-pack wearing beast on special teams. Thomas Jackson and ARW are trying to follow his lead.
2. Secondary - Great blitzes, forced fumble, good coverage. Didn't give up many big plays though Rene had a rough game with the PIs and the flag for coming off the field.
3. TE - hard to judge the blocking, but Carl Tucker looks really good for a rookie in his first game. Good route, great hands, fast.
4. DL - Considering Carney was second string all spring/fall i'd say we did pretty well. Carney is small, but fought got off blocks pretty well and was very active. Bart looked great, Clarke and Nazair look good, Dalton isn't any slower despite the weight gain. Several sacks and TFLs! Made a few big stops against the run on 3rd. Tomon is lb sized and probably wasn't ready for the amt of action he saw, but you gotta start somewhere.
I kinda feel these bottom 4 are tied for last but here is my gut:
5. LB - Andre Smith is awesome. Cole Holcomb is fast, a good tackler, good in coverage and knows where to be, he just isn't very big. Cayson Collins looks a step slow or unsure of where he needs to be or what to do. I noticed that he comes out while Holcomb stays in during Nickel, so they like Holcomb more. They also subbed out Collins for Bonilla a few times, but Holcomb and Andre never left the field.
Tie 6. Trubisky - tough time on several throws, missed wide-open Switzer and threw into double-covered for Mack instead. Nice arm, just needs a little polish. Looked pretty good on his few runs.
Tie 6. OL - Tough task with UGA's size and speed. MT was a little rushed, and lanes collapsed or never materialized for Hood. Hatton was fine, but we might've missed Turner a tiny bit. Not sure how the loss of Fritts impacted the playbook. UGA plugged holes and rushed the QB with just 6 in the box.
8. WR - I feel the blocking was lackluster, several edge plays were blown up due to ineffective blocking. Maybe we miss Quinshad and Kenrick Singleton, or maybe UGA has freak speed. Guys stayed active after plays broke down, like Hollins and Proehl coming back hard for catches. But guys also ran just short of sticks a few times. And there was a big drop or two. #88 got some PT, but I don't remember any other backups playing.
And perhaps I'm being harder on the O compared to the D due to unfair expectations.
