recruiting

I'm sure Alkins is a long shot, but are we still recruiting him at all?

Been
quiet about him around here recently!!..lot of guys will be on the roster at the sg and SF that may lead him to another school...woods,Robinson,Pinson,Williams and maybe JJ could be too much to come into!!

Don't know where to find them..maybe juco?..graduate transfer?..but we need at least 2 bigs!!..especially if the Meeks chatter around here is true!!..and if hicks blows up in the tournament,we are doomed!!..regardless,a rotation of Meeks, hicks,Bradley and maye ...looks alot better than Bradley and maye and nothing else..that's scary but also realistic to think of!!..can you say"small ball"!!

Definitely need to pick up a juco or grad transfer post player. I would prefer a grad transfer because they only tie up a scholarship one year.

Grad Transfer is the way to go. There are always a few each year and Roy should have PT to offer

Not a snowballs chance in... well you know where!!!

And in 2017 we will be disappointed just like in 15 and 16, IMHO
The NCAA mess is the primary reason we are not getting top 10 recruits posters might be disappointed in the 2017 class if everything is resolved in May if they expect two top 10 recruits in 2017 My guess is we add at least two more players ranked between 15-30, and I would not be disappointed with 3 top 30 players. With a little luck maybe we get Knox and it will be one top 10 player to go along with two top 30 players.

Yep, that type of optimism is infectious. Maybe it will infect our board. Oh wait...
Ok..guess I was being a little negative! Sorry gang. Sometimes when u go back and read what you have written.. you're like damn..what a asshole I was being. Sorry, just frustration these days seem to be at all time high!

Actually, I was trying a little reverse physiology!!

Or psychology?

No problem CD23. There's been so much negativity on this board the last couple of months that it's easy to get caught up in it. I'm an optimist and it's depressing to me to read some of the poor mouthing that has become so common here. Take every post with a grain of salt and try not to let the pessimism get to you.

Well, we know there are some kids out there, I'd say yep, give them an opportunity.

Clint and everybody else feel Kennedy is staying. They also said Nick Radcocevic 6'10" from suburbs of Chicago is probably our only option other than a transfer or late release from commit because of coaching change etc.. He has put on about 15 lbs. up to 215 and has been having a great year after a disappointing summer. He is a stretch 4 and can shoot from outside but needs to gain strength. Heels are warm to lukewarm on him but Clint feels if he is offered he will accept. This is all on a free podcast.

Seems pretty mobile, has good hands, keeps the ball up high, and is a willing passer. Has the frame to get much stronger. Has offers from some big time schools, with Miami currently the favorite. Not sure why we haven't offered, seems like a no brainer in our situation. Not sure about him being a stretch four, didn't see a shot outside of 8 feet in this video, but his FT stroke looks nice. If he likes us, and Clint seems to think so, let's get it done.

From what I have heard elsewhere, the staff wants a big that can play next year, which I take to mean play big minutes. Rako might be a good player by the time he is a junior but is he going to be able to play 20 minutes as a freshman? The indications are the staff is going to be on the lookout for any big men grad transfers and might prefer the option of a 5th year senior (or a senior who was able to graduate in three years) with experience.

Hard for me to tell from this clip but he seems to me to run a littlle bit heavy legged and not sure I saw a crispness to his game that tells me he is a day 1 solid contributor, strikes me more as a kid that may give us some good stuff as a Jr. I am looking for fluidity an raw athletism and maybe it is just this clip that causes me to question those things and this is just IMO only for sure. Not saying I would not want him at all, just suggesting I may not see him as a big time freshman producer, at least at this point and IMHO.

Talent wise I think Robert Carter would be a steal, not sure if he would look to spend his sr season on another team, I would actually doubt that he would frankly. The kid from UNCG is very interesting and a serious player, could really help us.

I agree, not an immediate impact guy. But one who could be very productive by his junior year. We need the depth desperately.

Who is the UNC-G player?

Clint's podcast pretty much said he wouldn't be a day one contributor and that he would really love to commit to a team like UNC that could help him with his strength.

If Kennedy comes back as the experts now feel , then we won't have a lot of time to offer a grad transfer unless the guy is really talented. He would seem to have to definitely play behind Isaiah and Kennedy and possibly even Bradley. I think most grad transfers come in wanting to play a lot.

I would agree that the player would not show up like the two grad transfers at Louisville and start, but I think they could get at least 20 minutes a game backing up Meeks/Hicks. The exposure at UNC plus the way the big men are used would probably be very intriguing for a grad transfer big man who wants to improve their chance at playing pro ball.

The problem with taking another project is that it costs us with big time recruits down the line. Top recruits will see an established junior in front of them for PT. I say eat the scholarship and try to load up in 2017. Although from what I have read/seen/heard our top targets in 2017 (Knox, Carter, Bamba, Duval) may all be leaning towards a different shad of blue, unfortunately.

Yes. It seems to be the reality at the moment.

We have Isaiah and Kennedy for one more year, at best, and we likely lose JJ too. Two years ago, the general consensus was that we'd land at least two of the top players in a loaded North Carolina class of '16. And most felt we were the strong leader for Giles. Guess what? It didn't happen.

We need a couple of bigs in both the'16 and '17 classes for the purpose of continuity. We need Rakocevic, lest we be caught with one center and a bunch of guards and small forwards. That could spell 8-20 all over again.
