My heart for God shows disdain by offering the idea that religions and the church try to control people by making them fear a "place" that the church itself created? I can handle that. You don't even realize how your allegiance is really to the CHURCH and not God!
I'm not too cool for school. I'm just not blindly obedient to human beings. The "word of God" can take many, MANY forms. The Word of God is not restricted to that book (or books) that religions and churches use to control their subjects. I simply do not believe God is restricted to the writings of men who claimed they were inspired by God (even if they were, which I can totally believe). I'm not diminishing the wisdom that all of the Scriptural texts offer. But, I am suspect when what is written is interpreted and used as a fear tactic to get people to march in line or you get the Big Fire. Where is Hell? Is Hell burning now? If it is "burning" then it must be somewhere in an earthly place to have the elements needed for fire to exist.
My posts do exhibit a defiance to human authority. Authority is a human invention. God is balance and peace, to me. I do not believe the "Hand of God" wrote the Bible. I don't believe God has a "hand" as we have a hand, and fingers, and arm. God is infinite. Everything you're using as a fear tactic to "warn me" is based entirely out of religious doctrine. I did not expect what that priest said to resonate with someone like you. I already KNOW how indoctrinated you are. You have a never-ending obedience to authority. You're not alone. You're in good company. I don't need the FEAR OF HELL to appreciate and emphasize the blessings and benefits of knowing God. People who base their following of God, through religion, by using the motivation of staying out of Hell are knowing God in a pretty limited way. The church has literally TAUGHT YOU to BELIEVE OUT OF FEAR. "Christians will be known by their love..." I don't see a lot of love in "You're going to burn if you don't comply."
God is love, and God is all encompassing. What is all encompassing can have no opposite. God does not forgive because God, being perfect love, does not condemn. But we,as humans, cannot conceive of a creator different from ourselves. We award God the condemnation that we carry on our hearts in order to justify it. People are constantly trying to put God in their human form.
