Roy learned from a really smart guy the value of having a deep bench and you only get a deep bench by playing guys, guys that get PT and know their coach is working hard to get them ready to play don't tend to transfer. You do get the occasional guy that thinks he is better than he really is, as in Drew & the twins, but over all Roy has done a great job of recruiting coachable kids. We have great examples of just this on the team for next season, especially if Jackson comes back. Look at guys like Hicks, Theo, Joel, Britt...These are guys that did not start off their UNC careers blazing by any definition but they are guys we saw dramatic improvement in the longer their careers continued.
Roy does not feature star players, he plays every one and everyone gets involved, Joel James got in and takes jump shots, Luke comes in and the ball goes to him in scoring position, everyone gets involved. That keeps even you deep bench happy, Kenny didn't play a lot last season but Roy still put him in at crunch time, that investment wil pay off IMO this season big time.
It is when you begin your season and only go 7-8 deep that your bench players start realizing I could start some place else or they do not see the coaching as effectively developing their game as seems to be the case with NC State. Duke has so many transfers because if you are not in K's magic 7 then your PT is going to take a huge whack, when you see starters still in a game with 2mins to go and you are up by 35 it kinda burns in you how little chance to play you get. I am really surprised jeter did not join Thorton in transferring because he looks like a kid that will spend his career being recruited over
