Roy speaks on recruiting problem

This is absolutely no news to anybody that cares about Carolina basketball. We have known this and seen it and felt it for two years now. It has had a very dramatic effect on Carolina. YET we are STILL there baby.... RIGHT THERE at the top!!

Hats off to Roy, his staff and everyone associated with Carolina basketball, who have had to weather this seemingly never ending storm fro too long

All you mooers, doochies, media hacks and ABCERS GTH

Just getting that information out there is powerful. I bet they also discuss longevity in the pro's as well. I would think that point would be another plus in UNC's favor.

Said it once and I'll say it again, I'm glad Roy is our coach and respect everything he's doing for us right now.

Still, can't believe its been 2+ years of this scandal. Doesn't help when the UNC Administration is throwing all of Roy's attempts to recruit and compete under the bus by delaying the NCAA's process.

Still, all of this and we're still ranked #1 Truly shows the hard work Roy has put in.

Somewhat OT: One thing I REALLY wish UNC would do is get J. Cole on board as an ambassador. Similar to Drake at Kentucky. I know how some older heads feel about the flashiness or whatever ails them about polarizing figures, but it's time to start appealing to younger crowds as well. This would give us some huge firepower with recruits IMO.

The scandal is an issue. The perception is also an issue. UNC is also just not really the it school right now with the bigger recruits. It happens. It will come back around eventually. On the perception front, we need a couple of big recruits to come in and leave after one year to be honest. That would help. Roy's record with putting top recruits into the first round is pretty great tbh. I've seen the breakdown before and it is almost unmatched. Cal coming in hurt us as well. He is taking some recruits that would probably have come here.

Also, Roy resonates well with a lot of guys. However, I do think that for whatever reason some of whatever he is selling (which is basically what all coaches do) is not resonating with many of the young guys today. Some of this could be staff related as well. I certainly do not know. Obviously, the NCAA stuff is a pretty big factor though. That and the perception that UNC doesn't put guys into the pros (whether true or not) are the two biggest obstacles right now.

OTOH, UNC is still UNC. Plenty of great players still would love to end up here and that isn't changing. What has to change is those players wanting to come here over the other elite programs. Players are not fans like us. They like multiple schools most of the time. Then they pick one.

Winning solves everything. Win the Dance ..it's that simple.

Yeah Cory, agree but don't factor out the negative recruiting going on right now, not just by other D1 coaches.... there've been a number of references this year to AAU coaches and others who are down-talking UNC big time. I think Clint mentioned it in a podcast a few months ago.

Winning will help Steat, as will a few players going 1-15 in the draft. Both would be a bonanza.....

The negative recruiting is part of perception for me. It creates it to an extent.

Winning would definitely help. It wouldn't solve all of it but it would help. UNC is still a prime destination and I think soon we will see it back to where it was just a few years ago.

Good news is that few coaches could have weathered this mess as well as Roy. Bad news is that it has likely taken a few years off his coaching

Who is J. Cole?

I thought it was that trendy store at the mall!

I do think it would be a good idea if he really is a Tar Heel fan and if he doesn't have the baggage of many recording artists these days. It would definitely make UNC cooler to youngsters!

FF and a decision from those idiots at the NCAA and we are back on top!

haha I guess J Cole may be a little too new for this crowd :D

But yeah, Dennis Smith and a couple of recruits went to his concert a few months ago. It'd be cool to have someone actually from North Carolina repping UNC (unlike Drake the team hopper at Kentucky)

I've seen J Cole a couple of times, my brother, friend and I actually wore some UNC gear to one of his shows and he seemed to appreciate it, seeing as it was in Montreal. Definitely a UNC fan and makes some good music that a lot of these young athletes are listening to.

Actually I was just funnin' with the youngsters! I know who J Cole is and I hope the staff will consider reaching out to him. I think we are on the rise in any case so I am very optimistic about future recruiting. Go Get 'em Roy, especially if Mr. Cole can hit a 3!
