And you know what? We WON... and we play again!Originally posted by berens007:

Actually we had the same situation against nova and providence the last two years. Big lead blown and very tight finish - this may have been the closet to the edge we have gotten

LOL, sorry to ruin everyone's negativity. Go Heels!Originally posted by gteeitup:

Unfortunately, none of our current roster resembles Big Game James, Sleepy Sam, or a certain freshman named Mike.Originally posted by mikeirbyusa:

Same goes true for some other great coaches, but they have lost in opening games.Originally posted by GoNtheDistance:
*The talent of Roy's teams has never lost in opening game. How low are we as a program that we now applaud not losing in the first round like it's even a tangible measure for UNC? We should never lose an opening round game especially if we are the higher seed which we usually are.
You're right Mike... and I appreciate your positive vibe!Originally posted by mikeirbyusa:

No, we SHOULDN'T. But, it happens. It happens more frequently than you realize because we HAVEN'T lost in the first round!Originally posted by GoNtheDistance:

That was a Gut team, not Dean.Originally posted by mikeirbyusa:

K coaches at Dook so first round losses shouldn't happen there eith..... oh, oops.Originally posted by redyns54:
Roy has only coached at Kansas and UNC. A first round loss should never happen. Not exactly an achievement.

ok, so lose in the first round or go deep in the nit?
i mean seriously, where are we that we're lauding this accomplishment?...if you want a top 10 program that is talked about as a threat to win the title, you cannot be happy with the direction on the program.
we all can be happy with wins, but the trajectory is off.
We, as fans, have NO influence over the trajectory at all.Originally posted by gteeitup:

And he also lost to Weber State!Originally posted by HeelFan58:
Dean lost in the 1st round 3 years in a row but you have to realize it was a smaller tournament and you had to play real teams from game one. I believe those 3 teams were Bama , TA&M and USF.
No Mike... it was in 99. Gut sandwiched his two Final Four appearances with the first round exit to Weber State.Originally posted by mikeirbyusa:
