Surely you don't consider that a win though? No excuse for this game. Had we lost I would have been busy helping Roy move out of Chapel Hill this weekend.

Actually we had the same situation against nova and providence the last two years. Big lead blown and very tight finish - this may have been the closet to the edge we have gotten

so glad we're posting accomplishments after almost losing to an average ivy league team with one player...you boys have your fun though.

And you know what? We WON... and we play again!

This was to a lowly Harvard squad ! Pound the ball down low to they are so far out of the game that it is over ! I hate not having a team that can contend for the title !

It's truly remarkable. An underrated feat. I know he should win because he always has superior talent, but this tournament has been ridiculous of late.

Unfortunately, none of our current roster resembles Big Game James, Sleepy Sam, or a certain freshman named Mike.

*The talent of Roy's teams has never lost in opening game. How low are we as a program that we now applaud not losing in the first round like it's even a tangible measure for UNC? We should never lose an opening round game especially if we are the higher seed which we usually are.

And that stacked team beat James Madison by 2 their 1st game in the Dance!

Same goes true for some other great coaches, but they have lost in opening games.

You're right Mike... and I appreciate your positive vibe!
I'm still in shock however over this one. WE should've pounded them by 15 - 20 points. It's hard to gush over the win right now. By Saturday we'll all be ready for the next Heels game and life will be good again.

I normally try and stay positive, but we just got out played and out coached by Harvard! It's very hard to be positive and happy after that performance. I know I will feel better when the 2nd game tips off, but dear god that was frustrating to watch!

No, we SHOULDN'T. But, it happens. It happens more frequently than you realize because we HAVEN'T lost in the first round!

Look at the blew devils. How many first-round losses do they have against great teams like Lehigh and Mercer. Iowa State loses to UAB and they ere in many peoples' Final Four.

If we'd lost the game... then that measuring stick is broken. It's fully intact.

Remember Weber State!

And that was a Dean Smith coached team in the FIRST ROUND!

You sure... I thought that loss was in 99 under Gut?

That was a Gut team, not Dean.

Roy has only coached at Kansas and UNC. A first round loss should never happen. Not exactly an achievement.

that was gutt!!..a kid named Harold"the show" arceneaux...i know I screwed up the spelling of his last name..but you guys know who I'm talking about!!

K coaches at Dook so first round losses shouldn't happen there eith..... oh, oops.

Losses happen, but thankfully not today for the Heels.

ok, so lose in the first round or go deep in the nit?

i mean seriously, where are we that we're lauding this accomplishment?...if you want a top 10 program that is talked about as a threat to win the title, you cannot be happy with the direction on the program.

we all can be happy with wins, but the trajectory is off.

We, as fans, have NO influence over the trajectory at all.

We can enjoy the wins or berate how they win if it's not a knock-out. Or, whine louder if they lose.

We all know the teams is struggling and we know why. As far as a win in the NCAA Tournament goes, you take them when they're there... period. A win in the NCAA Tournament is an accomplishment. Not HOW you won. But, THAT you won.

Dean lost in the 1st round 3 years in a row but you have to realize it was a smaller tournament and you had to play real teams from game one. I believe those 3 teams were Bama , TA&M and USF.

Well, for many years, we bragged because UNC had finished third or higher in the ACC for a given number of seasons. This was in an 8-team league where half of the programs were perennial losers and Carolina was led by the greatest coach ever. Too bad you guys weren't around to tell DiMaggio, "it's no big deal, Joe--some of those games, you went 1-for-4!"

In 25+ years of coaching, this is an amazing accomplishment and I'm proud that he's our Coach. GO ROY !!!

Ok earlier in the thread they said it was Gut who lost to Weber. So who was it? I am too G.D. tired to look it up.
