Roy upset with late state vs. Providence in ET

Definitely ridiculous that an East Coast game is tipping at 10pm, especially given there in a Denver pod playing today.

I don't think you'd find a single coach that would disagree with you guys. It throws game day routine out the window and leads to a diminished product. IMO, no games should start later than 8pm EST. Once again, the tail's waggin' the dog.

So you are saying that the NCAA and others conspired to put UNC in the late game today?
So you are saying the NCAA doesn't set the start times after the first round outcomes are known?
Hint: they do.
Maybe the better question would be: What possible (legitimate) justification could there be for a 9:40 tip in the Eastern time zone when games are being played in places much further west?
I'll hang up and listen...

Help me understand WHY the NCAA would want a team like UNC out of the tournament?

What is there to be gained from that?

At least our guys get to hang out at home for most of the day while Providence is bored in a hotel

I would like to think it is about the money but since the game will not end until close to midnight it just does not make sense for the companies airing commercials to be happy to see their adds come on that late on a Saturday night. Something just does not add up...

I agree whole heartedly that it is stupid for east coast to be playing this late but getting ready to head on a 3 hour drive to watch it in person which I wouldn't of been able to do with an early start!!!! Go Heels

That's the only logical reason we're playing a late game right? Lol
Please don't try to turn this into a conspiracy thread. Obviously, there's no advantage for either team. No one has said that. We're agreeing that a 9:40 start EST is unnecessary and ridiculous. Do you disagree?

Yes

EDIT: As a fan I'd like to watch them play at 6 or 7 but I don't mind waiting a couple of extra hours to watch.. Like you said there's no advantage to either team so to me it's simple ..play ..win.. Rest up for a week ..I just don't see it as a big deal personally

Conspiracy or not. Who cares. Only a bonehead would put. An east region game this late and west earlier. Pure stupidity.

We'll agree to disagree then.

NCAA don't care about the players, they only want viewers and since the UNC "product" is a nationwide commodity it could be they are looking to get more midwest and western viewers watching because they know the east coast will stay up for the game since it's on a Saturday night. My second thought was they are just screwing with UNC for the hell of it .. maybe Roy's been drinking them cokes on camera again.

It hurts viewership for people in the east who have jobs that work weekends and people who go to church early. I think it hurts in the end.

of course he and some others believe this...especially because roy bitched about this four or five years ago when they were in charlotte? maybe???

roy has a point though, but complaining about it does nothing.

they are trying to give as equal a rest time to each team that advances, but that's none of my business.

It's pretty simple.

TV wants a significant program playing in a primetime slot across the country. So the 9:40 tip would play 6:40 out west, where the majority of the game is in a primetime slot.

I don't like it. I don't like how the NCAA schedules these games. What they did to Wichita State was absolutely ridiculous.

9:40 play in game Tuesday
9:40 1st round game Thursday
12:10 2nd round game Saturday

Unfair. Simply put the theoretical highest seeds in the 2nd round should play the same times. But the NCAA isn't about fairness. It's about making money. They're able to get all 3 #1 seeds to play in primetime hours tonight.

Bingo. The primary consideration for the NCAA should be fairness for all teams. Instead, they orchestrate matchups and time slots to maximize revenue. There is a ton of money to be made without resorting to manipulation.

Money seems to be their primary consideration.

I'm happy for the late start. Just finished painting my new house all day. Now I can sit, relax and enjoy the game tonight. Wouldn't have been able to otherwise!

you might get some here to believe that...or better yet, they asked when he wanted carolina to play and he said, "last, of course." ;)

Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

On the brightside, UNC gets exposure on the West Coast leading to future potential recruits. Although many may still feel unsettled by the last bunch from California.

I've got young kids, they are in bed, the house is quiet, the beer is cold. I'm happy. Sure the late time sucks, but I'm not one to believe that they said, "let's **** Carolina and make them play the last game."
