It is now officially Hubert Davis’s show with the departure of RJ Davis. With RJ Davis leaving, we can finally get back to the carolina of Old… beating team after team with size. RJ Davis did some amazing things in a carolina uniform however, I must say I’m excited to see him leave. Allowing Elliot to play with a true two guard with size, as much as I love, Seth I do not want to see him starting as our two.

Things I wanna see in 2026

Elliott, Ian and Drake and two bigs and that is really it.

If Washington stays, I think he needs to play the four, some may say he can’t move, but you can’t convince me, He’s not at least as athletic as Danny Wolfe. Lastly, he needs to try and block every shot.

VAL, he played well, but he is not a five and I don’t think we can be successful with him at the four. I think he’s just as fast as Washington, but with his lack of shooting, length and size I don’t think he can play the four like we need him to.

Seth, I wanted him to come back last year. And as much as I love him and his game, I think we did a disservice to him over his career and not having him as our backup point guard. You cannot convince me he was any worse than RJ. With that said we need a bucket getter that can shoot starting as our two guard.

Everyone else can go.

I don't see Ian coming back and frankly, I'm ok with that. He's not versatile enough, can't guard anyone and is a suspect decision maker. Too one dimensional. Of course, like all players, he could improve. But we don't have the luxury of "hope" next year. We have to rebound in a big way. I'd prefer an already developed sniper at the 2 spot (McNeely is what the doctor ordered). And I hope to keep Seth happy as a 6th man. I think he's comfortable there. I kind of agree that we should have put more focus on him at least taking back up PG duties and maybe he can get there for next year. Seth may be 6th man but could potentially average the second most mpg next year because of his versatility.

We cannot - under any circumstances - go into next year with Washington as the starting Center. Not the starting 4 either. I don't want to be mean so I'll just say that I guess I could stomach him on the roster next year but please, God, let's make securing a top flight center priority #1.

As for the end of the Roy era, it's bittersweet. I appreciate RJ's career but I too am ready to move on. But putting a nail in the coffin of the Roy era hurts a little. Such an amazing 20 year run that looks better with each passing day.

It was Hubert's recent recruits that made us a short team. Some of us started pointing out that trend a couple of years ago. If that changes, great - but don't blame it on RJ or Roy.

I get that but any team with Rj as a starting 2 guard is small… he’s been chopped liver on the defensive end since he’s been here. He was smaller than Melvin Scott, and Scott was only 6’2. I agree 110%, Hubert’s philosophy, is that of the Villanova Wildcats, and I hate it.

What’s a true two guard? I get the , with size part. You thinking that getting a 2 guard with size will return the program to Carolina of old is laughable. Better be able to shoot and score, and play the defense you’re wanting to see. There’s only been a few players ever that’s the #1 option on offense and played lockdown defense to boot.
Coaching the Carolina of old? All around talent of Carolina of old? Add these into the equation.

Villanova just recruited the right "small guards."

Brunson = 6'2
Divincenzo = 6'4
Hart = 6'4
Bridges = 6'6

All STRONG. All TOUGH. All could DEFEND. All HIGH BASKETBALL IQ. All still in the NBA.

Smaller is fine if you get the right ones and know how to use them. Worked fine for Jay Wright!

RJ improved a lot on D over his career. He was tough, relentless and . . . short. Which is to say he was never going to be better than adequate. But he was adequate. Unfortunately, pairing him with another short guard exacerbated the problem. And while EC was getting a good bit better at D, getting better only counts when your coach allows you to be on the court.

One problem that Hubert faced is that it's tough to have either RJ or EC on the bench much. But if we only had one of them, I wonder how the season would have developed? For one thing, Hubert wouldn't have spent most of the season trying to make small ball work.
