Coaching ? Roy did not do any coaching tonite , hell he should have came over and watched the game with me ! I am at a loss for words.
couldn't agree more. can't wait for the guys with 1,000,000 posts to tell us otherwise, though. Roy does nothing on the bench but shake his head. He did nothing on the sidelines as Berry brought the ball down for the last possession even as Berry initially dribbled towards him. utter chaos the last six minutes of the game. there was no flow, no continuity. guys were taking horrific shots. the 2nd and 3rd to last possessions went to the shot clock buzzer and one of the shots didn't even get off while the other was an air ball. Good news is I'm getting used to this!!
I truly cannot believe what I just saw. Roy ... If you don't know when to call a timeout, it's time to hang it up. I'm tired of watching UNC do less with more.
The saddest part is if you traded coaches it wouldve been a 25 point game

He is who he is. The bottom line is we're always at a disadvantage facing K because he's a better coach. And no longer do we have substantially better talent.
This is one of the most embarrassing losses I've witnessed in my lifetime. Roy is s disgrace. Marcus Paige and Kennedy Meeks are empty jerseys.
What's not correct about the comment. K is a better coach and routinely beats Roy. We do not have elite talent outside of Johnson.
No one in the Country has done less with more talent than the Heels. Roy why didn't you just keep riding the Johnson Express to victory. On the bright side we are preseason paper champs every year , next yr we will be preseason champs again ! I got to get up at 4:30 and I know i won't get any sleep tonite , Thanks Roy !
speaking of Paige ... has anyone ever regressed as much as this guy has? what's his deal? pressure? used to be able to count on him for all of it. bout the only thing you can count on these days is his little acrobatic one-on-one lay-up thru traffic in the paint.

Roy kept 3 timeouts as souvenirs on what could end up being his retirement tour. The lineups were ridiculous, they refused to go at plumlee who had 4 fouls for the last quarter of the game, and stopped feeding Brice down the stretch. The crazy thing is he could have covered it all up had he called a timeout on the last possession and pulled the W out.

that's not true. these was a coach at Kansas twenty years ago who always had the best talent in the land and never reached potential.
We do not have elite taken outside of Johnson, AKA the better coach, Coach K should have killed us? This wasn't a game of being out coached. You fools need to wake up and start actually watching baketball. This team lost because our guards and wings couldn't do jack ****** make one more 3 and we win. It's simple. Wake up.
K typically has a 7-8 man rotation vs Roy's typical 11-12 man rotation and K is 16-10. I mainly want a shorter rotation because that reduces the chances Roy has to substitute. The only thing that a coach has 100000% control over is who plays. And Roy seems to want EVERYONE to play. Roy being forced to coach less will make him a better coach.
And no offense to a bunch of people here. I realize the profound respect for Dean. But the game has evolved. It's time to eliminate some of the things that just don't translate to today's game.

It shouldn't have taken one more 3 to win this game. We should have been up 15 plus but Roy wasn't concerned at halftime about the amount of points we were giving up.

We just lost to a team that had 5 players and one of those players had 4 fouls for seemingly the entire game.
If our players aren't running the offense to its peak, then call a TO and set the play in the huddle. If it works, go to it over and over again. K called set plays for the vast majority of the second half and ran like 4 sets. How many times did K just clear out Ingram. It didn't work in the 1H, I got fooled into thinking that was good, but K probably realized that Ingram missed a bunch of layups and kept with it. Eventually, Ingram got into a rhythm.
And btw, Duke was extremely well prepared for our box sets and counters out of them. Do you recall a single lob from the 1-4/5 top of the key ball screen, back screen that we run on every secondary break? Do you recall a single three off the weak side from the secondary? No. Duke had our stuff read but Marshall Plumlee nor Ingram are going to stop Brice from getting rebounds.
PLEASE RETIRE ROY! PLEASE! Our kids deserve better! we have lost so many games the last 3 years because of Roy!
We need a young or mid aged coach that can start something and build something for the next 25-30 years!!!
WE NEED A YOUNG COACH THAT CAN ACTUALLY COACH X'S and O's!! We need a coach that will get fight and toughness and heart out of our players!!!

One with dohertys recruits and the other with his own supremely talented recruits. Either team not winning it all would have been a crime. The only surprise is Roy didn't screw it up!!!!

The sunshiners can reference the increasingly more distant past and ignore the obvious that is present, but I think anyone that is being honest with themselves realizes Roy is holding the program back at this point. He's earned the right to leave gracefully, but I think he forfeits that right if he doesn't exercise it after this season.
^^^^ This. so true. Did you see his postgame interview? Blamed Coach Smith for teaching him not to call a TO and allow the D to set. No two coaches have been better in setting a play for success than Smith and Roy yet he doesnt help his team. He apologized to his players for NOT calling the TO and then, in the next sentence says he would probably do the same thing again... isnt that the def of insanity?
This loss is on Roy. He is great and preparing his players and recruitiung but terrible with in-game coaching.
I'd say the comment was spot on. Swap coaches before the game K coaches our players to a 20 point victory easy.
I have maybe a flawed theory on the quality of coach.
I'd imagine that Roy gets to coach the Golden State Warriors against Steve Kerr and the same Warriors. My feeling is in a 7 game series, Kerr would win in a sweep. Put Coach K in there and some would argue K could win that series. Put Brad Stevens in there and some would argue Stevens could win that series. 0 are arguing Roy would win that series.
I'm not extremely upset. Roy is who he is. He's not going to change. And as long as he wins 25 games/year, he won't be pressured into changing. It's a testament to his career success, but it's also a reality that winning some time ago buys you a TON of time in college sports.
Bob Knight made 1 sweet 16 in his final 12 seasons as a coach. And if it weren't for his controversy, I don't think anyone important would call for his job.
