I concur with all of you, Sam isn’t the issue. Our OL was over ranked coming into the season due to the excellence of the four record setting guys we lost to the NFL. It has been our biggest weakness. Our inexperience at receiver/RB(less Ty), is showing too. The secondary hasn’t lived up to expectations either. So there is blame aplenty to go around.
I realize the OL has been hit with injuries, especially at the crucial center spot. That has hurt, a lot. But I’m now wondering if some on here aren’t right when they say we need another OL coach. We just haven’t built enough depth there. Maybe he hasn’t had the time yet, I don’t know. I understand it taking more time to build DL depth, Fedora didn’t pay as much attention to recruiting that side of the ball. Baker played 27% of the center snaps and looked good to me. IMO, he should play more there. Give some of the young pups more PT.
Sam has been harassed often this year. He was last year as well, but we had several big playmakers on offense then. He isn’t getting enough push by the OL to allow our current RB’s to consistently get into the secondary. And he hasn’t developed the confidence/chemistry he had with Dyami/Daz/Michael/Javonte. With a little more time to make his reads and a little more confidence his OL can hold off the pass rush, Sam will put up big numbers. He is that good.
