seniors

Our seniors will definitely be missed. :( I suppose that's an advantage of being a one & done factory. You're not always in a position of missing the seniors. I can live with losing freshmen. The longer the players are around the more attached we become to them. We always have seniors I'd love to have back for a few more years. I'd love to see Hans, Brice, Marcus, Kennedy & so many more run through the tunnel in Carolina blue. I still miss Danny Green's pregame dance. Joel & Theo will definitely be missed. They're both special people & special players. Unfortunately, we'll be in the same situation next year dreading losing Luke, Kenny & hopefully Cam (if he stays around next year). In short, it's always a GDTBATH & always sad to see our seniors leave.

Ahhh. The good ole days
I love the players every year, but my good ole days, were in my early years of being a Tar Heel fan. Coincidentally, that started the year MJ arrived in town. I quickly became a Heels fan for life. Before then, I was yet another misguided North Carolinian that was a State fan, because my older family members were*. It didn't take me long to figure out they were supporting the wrong team. :D For me, the Hansbrough years were a close second.

*None of those people are still State fans. lol Some of them became Duke fans, which proves they are totally clueless. Fortunately, I've been able to convert most of the family into Heels fans.

I’ve met a few of those myself... people that are such ABC’ers they switched from state to dook, at least in basketball. They would still pull for state in football since it usually gave them a better chance to beat the Heels. Sad

My memories of the Hells started around the mid 80's. I remember Jeff Lebo, Brad Daughtery, Joe Wolf, and a few others. Sad to say I don't remember the MAN #23 at Carolina. I was 6,7,or 8 the yrs he was there.

The past 4 years have been as awesome for me as any 4 years in my 35+ years of Tar Heel fandom - NCAA mess be damned. A class of Joel, Theo and Justin was remarkable by any standard and when you factor in we got a combined 11 years out of a possible 12, it makes it that much more impressive.

Their leaving the program will be bittersweet.
These guys literally got me the most stoked I've ever been about a UNC recruiting class because they were 3 terrific players with complementary skill-sets who were perfect fits for the Carolina system.

The only classes that compared were 1990 (the ORIGINAL Fab-5, before Rozier split), and 2002 (Ray, May and McCants). Both those classes were (as sure as one can be) "core" classes for an eventual Natty, although I was worried Doherty would waste the latter bunch --- fortunately Roy cam home and took them to the promised land.

Even more so than with those 2 classes for me, 2014 was da bomb. I followed the recruitent closely, especially after I got tipped off JB and Buckets were coming. I saw both of them live in AAU and starting watching video of Theo, and yeah... there was little doubt these guys were gonna do something very special here. I had no qualms going out on a limb and calling it a core class for another title run, and how cool was it they were starting together on last season's Natty team?

I said in a previous post that I'm gonna savor this season while we can. And don't look now, but despite all the message-board hand-wringing, Joel and Theo are leading this bunch right back to that familiar place where nobody wants to see UNC in their bracket. Besides that, this is a season where I especially want us to win the ACC Tourney because every game they win means I get to watch an additional game along the way. Dean Smith loved having Seniors, and so does Roy, and so do I.

Just imagine... In 20 years, we’ll be watching video of Joel blocking that 6’10” dudes shot from behind. And I’ll still be wowed by it.

And you can watch it two days later like I just did and be wowed once again. Lol. Oh yea it's definitely one that is going with him to the rafters and we will be smiling about for a long time.

What the Heel, this is a thread about Seniors, I gonna post it again. Joel is a RIM PROTECTOR!

You were a little behind me. I started watching the Heels, when I was 14. Brad played in my high school conference. I have a funny story about him, but it's not positive as far as he was concerned, so I won't share it. Let's just say, I sat in the next row directly behind Roy at one of our home games & saw his true opinion. In hindsight, I wasn't even impressed that it was Roy Williams at the time. Ah memories....

My first distinct memories are of Larry Brown, Doug Moe, York Larese, Yogi Poteet, and Donnie Walsh, the '61 team. I was 8. By the time Larry Miller came in in '66, I was hooked. Been Jonesin' ever since.
