Confederate States of America. CSA. That was the official Name. The soldiers who fought for the South considered themselves to be Americans.

I guess they did. I never spoke to any of them. If I had to bet, I'd say they called themselves Southerners, or Rebels. American was a bit too ambiguous at that time.
