Has the preseason #1 ever fallen to 'unranked' ?? I cannot remember .. and cant find it anywhere online.

Good question. I hope it never has happen and Duke is the first.

They still have a Top 10 team on paper and will get a decent seed in the Dance.

Kentucky did a few years ago when they had Nerlens Noel and he injured his knee. I'm sure it's happened other than that too.

I don't recall a pre-season #1 falling out of the top 25. Maybe just as good a question is has a team been outside of the top 25 pre-season ever made it to #1?

On paper, they probably have the top team, certainly top 2-3. There's a reason they were very heavy favorites as the preseason top team.

On paper, they are at minimum a top 2-3 team. They have 8 McDonald's All Americans on their roster. That doesn't include Giles, ranked 2nd best player by Rivals, but who was injured. That's a ridiculous amount of talent. And don't forget the 4 or 5 McDonald's All Americans who were OAD's. Only UK has had anything near comparable talent over that period.

It's not just that they were preseason #1. They were the overwhelming preseason #1 and overwhelming title favorites.

I am greatly amused by their struggles. But as I said in a couple other threads, they are not dead. K could be back as early as this weekend and they will end up making noise.

No way a preseason number 1 hasnt fallen out. Hell, wouldn't be surprised if indiana in the year you just referenced didn't.

I'm sorry but I don't buy it! How on Earth can a team without a single PG on its roster be universally sold as the overwhelming best team, even on paper? (I argued against this idea from the start) A team is more than a collection of 5* peeps, it has to have the ability to put pieces on the floor. If this idea had any real merit then a team of 5 centers would be the odds on best as long as they were ranked 1-5. I will agree that the team has the best collection of highly ranked peeps and has a great deal of individual talent, but I strongly disagree that they were ever the best team on paper!

I believe UK, KU, and UNC have better TEAMS on paper!
