Have you ever heard a coach say they want to be somewhere for a short time? He'll probably be getting a raise after the season if we win 9+ games.Fedora said recently (I believe it was in his Tuesday radio show) that he hoped to be in Chapel Hill for a "long time." Of course that could be taken many ways (if they pay me, etc.) but what our football program needs and has needed is stability. Given what Fedora has accomplished under tough circumstances, I'd like to see him stay and continue to build this program. (Any coach's game decisions will always be questioned by some, but winning is really what it's all about, and we've started doing that fairly regularly!)
As he should.Have you ever heard a coach say they want to be somewhere for a short time? He'll probably be getting a raise after the season if we win 9+ games.
Of course not.....they just usually don't say anything about that sort of thing if they're not happy.Have you ever heard a coach say they want to be somewhere for a short time?
I agree. I just hope VT will drop another one and he gets a raise for winning an ACC championship. The fact that I would be a little bummed out if we win 10 games, but can't play for the championship shows how far we've come as a program. As he should.
That's true. Before we beat them they had one of the longest, if not the longest, home winning streak in the nation.Blazer, teams don't beat FSU in Talahassee very often
This is a trash post, to be honest, and I don't think you even really agree with what you just typed.I feel like we have a little more to prove vs good competition before I rank Fedora amazing, or rank this team closer to the low-teens.
Our best win was FSU, but that really-really close. We boomed that kick, but still.
Fed's done a great job coaching up Trubisky, and called plays to put us in good positions, but the wins over Pitt and FSU (esp) were tenuous. Mia and UVA were strong showings, but if I'm hiring i want to see more vs a big team.

Please go here and, using the drop down arrow, look at our record in the 2002 through 2011 seasons and then compare where Fedora has us now. I promise you won't be signing the same tune about "needing to see more" from Fedora. He beat FSU at Tally. Goodness, man.
Ah, my mistake. I took your first post as you saying "For me, the book is still out on Fedora on whether I'm impressed with him or not."This thread is about coaches being pursued for big jobs. I think our last two yrs have been close to amazing by UNC standards (which are low), but I still don't think Fed has proven that he is an amazing coach.
Perhaps your definition of 'amazing' is different from mine. Or maybe your def of 'trash post' is different from mine.
And he's done all that with disgustingly piss-poor support from our "fan"base. Makes it even more impressive, especially recruiting. I don't know how on Earth we win any high-profile recruit when they come visit us and see a 80% full stadium or less. (But I'm glad they choose us anyway)Given what he was faced with when he came here (scholly limitations, negative recruiting, uncertain future of the program, losing attitude, etc.) I think Fedora deserves a lot of credit for what he has done. We have had and do have some great players (you can name them as well as I) but what we haven't had is depth at many key positions., which IMO is a big key to consistent winning. Fedora has worked with that and is working out of it. I'm not sure we could ask a whole lot more at this point in his tenure (I know- win the ACC, win the bowl games, beat VaTech, win our opening games, etc. etc. etc.) and I think the future looks very bright for our football program.

Cheating, duh.I don't know how on Earth we win any high-profile recruit when they come visit us and see a 80% full stadium or less. (But I'm glad they choose us anyway)
"Hell no, to the nah nah no."So reports of Les Miles wanting to coach next year got me thinking. If Fedora were to leave for a bigger program this year, would Miles be someone we should consider? Maybe Chizik since he is already here?
So who would you want then?"Hell no, to the nah nah no."
Fedora. Where is he going to go? Texas wants Herman. Sumlin is doing well at A&M. I do not believe LSU and he would have mutual interest. So who would you want then?
The thread was about him being in line for another job. It's just a hypothetical situation. The natural next question would be who would be the next hire for us. Just something to talk about until the game starts.Fedora. Where is he going to go? Texas wants Herman. Sumlin is doing well at A&M. I do not believe LSU and he would have mutual interest.
I'm not naive to think he won't leave, I just don't see any openings that fit.
Man, I can't handle another coaching search right now haha. Plus it is hard to think of a replacement because we aren't NC State just looking for another mediocre coach to replace another mediocre coach. We would be looking to replace arguably the second best (could ever end up being the best) coach in our history. The thread was about him being in line for another job. can't even, and don't want to, get to this place right now...too nc state'ish for me...are you a wolfer in ramses clothing? The thread was about him being in line for another job. Exactly No candidate really comes to mind that would be a suitable replacement.Hypothetically speaking of Fedora were to leave we should go after a similar high flying offensive guy. No idea who that would be. Would not want Les or Gene.
That is a great point. UNC does need stability. Honestly at times he ticks me off with some of his playcalling, but what he and the staff have accomplished in Chapel Thrill is remarkable.Well, let's just hope we don't have to replace him. He's doing a really good job, and our program desperately needs stability.
Stability, unless it is the stability of permanent 6 or 7 wins, is hard to overemphasize. And this staff has done a superb job of laying the foundations for a program that rightly expects to win every year. That is a great point. UNC does need stability. Fedora is mediocre. Chizik is barely mediocre.Well, I don't think this is going to be an issue now.
Your assumption is that the loss to Dook would rule Fedora out for another job. But that is far from certain. A conversation this morning with an SEC fan I hadn't seen in a while can help see that. He asked me if I now think Fedora has already committed to leaving. His reasoning to get to that question? He remembers that I had pointed out in the past that many times when a team loses a game in a weird way, the team just seeming dead on its feet or in its mind, just playing with no life or spark, that the coach is headed out the door.Well, I don't think this is going to be an issue now.
Well... see ya later, Larry. He showed what can be achieved at UNC, but also showed there's more there, if you're a dedicated coach. If he's checked-out, and it's affecting our team NOW? I hope wherever he goes, he fails miserably.Your assumption is that the loss to Dook would rule Fedora out for another job. But that is far from certain. Players pick up from the staff, which picks up from the HC. If the HC is seriously thinking of a new offer, his uncertainty will be felt by all. And that easily can lead to a team looking slow and dazed, even uninterested, even in rivalry games.
That makes zero sense. You honestly think Texas or LSU is going to hire Fedora after losing to duke? If he is committed to leaving it's going to have to be for a lesser job.Your assumption is that the loss to Dook would rule Fedora out for another job. But that is far from certain. And, if they were to get him... how long before he gets canned? That makes zero sense. You honestly think Texas or LSU is going to hire Fedora after losing to duke? If he is committed to leaving it's going to have to be for a lesser job.
