Evan Daniels reporting that he expects SKJ to pick UK today.

Another kid who was in our backyard (literally) and favoring us at one time that we have lost. But let's continue to say "we'll be fine" "we only want kids who really want us" and turn a blind eye to the program's future because we can't land top 50 recruits.

This is getting very frustrating.

Nah, let's all freak out about something we have no control over. That's clearly the better response.

As far as SKJ, he's a nice player. But after speaking with Curtis Staples this summer, I'm not ga-ga over him. I'd rather have the Finnish kid.

I agree gunslinger.
Every year, we go through (almost) the same recruiting issues. Sure UNC and it's fans want to land top tier kids but look at the numbers. 345 D1 schools, that only have spots for how many tens of thousands of HS kids. Me, I'd be happy with one or two top tier kids but I would also be happy with "wide net" if he lands kids from the next group and so on. Markannen would be one of those type players and he would be a 3-4 year guy.

You guys might be happy to miss out on him in a couple years. His mom has a reputation.

Just for the record, SKJ might be OAD at UK because that's what happens there. But he's no more ready for the NBA than the man in the moon. His own coach told me he didn't feel that SKJ was a top 25 recruit and that he had "plenty" to work on. The feeling I got was that Curtis was less than enamored with SKJ. He told me that SKJ wasn't the best player on his team last year and he didn't think he'd be this year. I was taken aback by how willing Curtis was to discuss SKJ with me and then again at the lack of glowing remarks about his game. He went on to say that he's not 100% sure SKJ would be back with V.E.S. this year.

Or he could be the next Willie CS. Top 50/60 players are still in high demand.

Everybody knows until the NCAA gets out of town we will struggle to sign kids. Or have you been living in a cave? No sense in fretting-wringing our hands-blasting Roy over it. They must leave for us to get back where we need to be in recruiting.

And that's exactly what cal is selling him...come in and be oad in the WCS mode or sit behind a senior Meeks and hicks..seems like an easy choice to me!! Like I've said before and will continue to do..2017 is the biggest year in the history of unc basketball recruiting!!

I stated way early on that I was not blown away with SKJ, many raised eye brows at my saying that. Other than he having Chapel Hill ties, I just have not seen why so many seemed so all in for him.

I will say this however, bad bad mistake by the kid IMO because to me he will end deep on that Ky bench and very likely a future transfer. I see him as a 3 or more likely 4yr player that can be a solid D-1 player but I don't see him as a guy that will blow anyone away. We all know the talent level Kal brings in and especially big men, this kid IMO is no where near what Kal has been getting for his front court.

I absolutely like the Finnish kid more and frankly, the fin is way under hyped, he can be a serious player, I love what I have seen from him. IT will take him a minute to adjust to the level of competition but that was true of Jackson last season for us.

Bingo.

I am just a fan , nobody cares about what we feel about it, so at this point whatever team they field I will pull for them.. If they are not up to standards I m used too I will watch periodically and go fishing or something until this straightens out lol...

I won't speak on every point on this thread, but one thing I will say is that SKJ is going to be a player. Anyone that watched his progression just over the summer would agree that there is reason to be excited about him. Given that progression, there's no reason to believe that he won't continue to trend up as he gains access to college level instruction and strength/conditioning.

Kind of with Rob on this one. This kid as been working hard on his game and I have seen the results. Nice post up game and can handle the rock from end to end. He will only get better on the college level. Hate we lost him. I wonder if the latest headlines about the response to the NOA was the last straw for him and his parents even though the BB team's status will be the same. Those recent headlines i'm sure have spooked some recruits even more than they are already.

Cal shady doesnt give out schollys if you cant play. And we offered as well. At this point this one stings

S&C for that to be your first post you should be banned. Gunslingerdick is a vet who has earned respect. IMO

The kid is not very good, yet Cal offers and so does Roy? That really doesn't make sense. I know the real reason the kid suddenly lost all of his talent the moment he verbals to Kentucky. We have all been there. It sucks losing a kid that in most years would be at UNC. I have watched some clips and I like the kid's potential to be an awesome player under Cal. When the NCAA finally decides something on you guys, your recruiting is not going to be what it usually is. Some of you will just have to accept that fact.

It's a shame when the UK fans are making the most sense on our board.

This is 100% fact. If he were coming to UNC we'd be up in arms about what upside this kid possesses and how he will be a building block for a great 2016 class.

Suddenly he's not that good simply because he didn't choose us?

Come on. This is the same blind love/hatred that has some fans frustrated with our fan base. I don't think anyone here is critical of Roy at all (at least from what I've seen). There is no other coach I want for UNC. We're more frustrated with the situation that the NCAA has put us in and we won't accept the notion that it's ok to strikeout in 2016 and still think the team will still win.

GTFO. Seriously. What sort of douchebag feels the need to post where you are not wanted?
Oh, a UK type, of course.

Oh my,...looks like I missed something. I know the loon S&C from Rupp. In fact, we're old chums. I might drop by RR and say hello since apparently he can't post here any longer. But he's a moron of the first order. I've held my tongue on RR when confronted by him because over there, I'm the visitor.

As far as my comments, let me clarify.

SKJ is a nice player. No one here has said anything to the contrary. But when my son attended Curtis Staples' camp this summer, I spoke to Curtis daily. And I was very inquisitive about SKJ because he was being recruited by Carolina. Staples seemed very "meh" about SKJ - almost like there was some bad blood there. And when he mentioned that SKJ might not be back with the team, I began to think that Staples might just be a little sore if SKJ found greener pastures elsewhere.

But I maintain that SKJ is not a OAD talent. As I stated, his own coach straight up stated that he was not, in his opinion, a top 25 talent in his class. He will probably be a productive 3 year player and UK will be happy to have him. I'm not sure why anyone would have any beef with what I'm saying. But then again, these are UK fans we're talking about - the most paranoid fan base in the history of fan bases. They think if we're not falling over ourselves to congratulate them on their recruit then we're just "haters".

Yet another "Bingo", dick.

Dude, what the hell do you propose we do about it? Rant and rave and post comments about how the world is coming to an end? The comments here don't change the situation - neither good nor bad. So if some people want to say it doesn't matter, then so what? Maybe they just choose to not care that much. So we lose a bunch of games year after next. Us griping about it on a message board like petulant children doesn't win us any games. Serious question - do you want us all to melt down because we lost a recruit? I guess I could fake some kind of tantrum if it would please you.

Hey . . . would this be a bad time to remind you about that $20 you owe me . . . ?

In all seriousness, do I owe you $20? I know you were probably joking but we've done enough of those pick 'ems around here that you might have stumbled into winning one. Did I not pay up?

Then what the heck does it matter what we think of the kid? OK, so you think he is another Anthony Davis, OK so I disagree. Are you kitty kat fans so full of your selves now days that others are not allowed to have a different point of view?

Maybe you should concern yourself with what is said in your own house and not so much in this one...

My comment is to the posters (and there are many) that think we are going to be fine without top 50 recruits. I've heard time and time again that "we only want the players who truly want us" or "Roy can coach any group of kids and get the most out of them and we will be fine". It's just simply not true. Yeah, we'll lose a bunch of games and some fans expect more than that and want more than that. Is that a problem?

I'd rather gripe and be unhappy with the state of recruiting than be in la la land. No one is punching holes in walls. We are unhappy when we miss on a kid instead of just saying that he's not that great cuz he didn't choose us. I'd rather be real and rational.

Not so sure about the OAD. UK is projected to lose the entire front line of current players. (3)
Humphries not yet on board.
More like selling a lot of pt.. Cal likely look at KJ as a 2/3 player ala WCS.
KJ is more of a Marcus Lee with handles and a jump shot. (Did I just describe a OAD?)
Look for Cal to add a true OAD for the front court by Spring.

Disagree. SKJ blew up over the summer. SKJ is definitely better for us in terms of talent ans helping right away. Tough loss for us IMO.

I will go with my assessment, thank you. If you think he's better then, well, you are seriously underestimating Markannen.
