SKJ to choose UK today

I will go with my assessment, thank you. If you think he's better then, well, you are seriously underestimating Markannen.

Not underestimating Markannen. I just think SKJ is the better player. I'm sure Markannen will be a solid college player.

In all seriousness, do I owe you $20? I know you were probably joking but we've done enough of those pick 'ems around here that you might have stumbled into winning one. Did I not pay up?

Naah . . . we're good. Jus' joking some is all.

And that's exactly what cal is selling him...come in and be oad in the WCS mode or sit behind a senior Meeks and hicks..seems like an easy choice to me!! Like I've said before and will continue to do..2017 is the biggest year in the history of unc basketball recruiting!!
SKJ could easily sit behind another freshman at UK.

I think that " if they don't want to be here then we don 't want them" is a very true statement, at least for me it is. We're just looking at another Larry Drew or the Wear brothers if they don't want to be here. We don't need a cancer in the locker room or on the court, seems we have enough trouble as it is at the moment with other things. I would rather have players who actually want to play here, who's happy to be a Tar Heel, proud to be a Tar Heel! I would rather not win as many games and enjoy the season, than to win a couple more games and not enjoy Tar Heel basketball. So, if they truly don't want to be here, why would we cry because they went somewhere else. UNC just needs to get all this mess straightened out so they will actually "want" to play here.

Agree with everything you wrote.
Have to say, I hate seeing those names even appear on this board. I usually write "Larry Who" and the "Where are they now Twins" instead..... am I just being bitter?

Honest question swear I'm not trolling here...who have you guys signed since the NCAA decided to visit a second time?

I wonder if it's the kids afraid of probation or the parents. Something clearly is going on because you guys have always been the one to chase in recruiting.

Luke maye and Kenny Williams..top 100 kids..but not household names!!

Which one?..and if so, then that makes it hurt worse.. knowing that he would be willing to sit behind another freshman than a senior!!
You will have to wait for the class to be complete before that possibility presents its self.

The NCAA didn't decide to re-visit, we invited them with our Wainstein Report which was published a year ago, 5 years after the initial investigation and 2-1/2 years after they originally sanctioned us. Our administration is purposefully trying to kill all of our athletic programs to try and prove some pathetic philosophy. No other college in history would continue to try and punish their athletes who were in elementary school when the infractions took place. When has a pre-season #1 college team been unable to sign one single recruit?

Just for the record, SKJ might be OAD at UK because that's what happens there. But he's no more ready for the NBA than the man in the moon. His own coach told me he didn't feel that SKJ was a top 25 recruit and that he had "plenty" to work on. The feeling I got was that Curtis was less than enamored with SKJ. He told me that SKJ wasn't the best player on his team last year and he didn't think he'd be this year. I was taken aback by how willing Curtis was to discuss SKJ with me and then again at the lack of glowing remarks about his game. He went on to say that he's not 100% sure SKJ would be back with V.E.S. this year.

Dick-Do you have ties to V.E.S.? I am actually class of '92 there. The interesting thing to me about SKJ is that no one really wanted him, he was a 3 star kid, then UVa offered, and he jumped on it, now he is supposed to be the next elite PF? Not buying it. I also heard that he was not the best player on the team, which makes him to Kentucky a real head scratcher, but whatever!

@dadecodevil Class of '92, huh? There's a good chance you and I crossed paths back in high school (E.C. Glass, class of '93). I didn't attend V.E.S., but I had many friends that did. I take it you were a boarder and not a day student which would decrease the chances we might know each other. In the interests of keeping just a bit of anonymity not only for me but for them as well, I'll just do first names. If you knew them, then you'll know who I'm talking about. But I was friends with and still stay in touch with some of the following - Frank (a.k.a. FLT), Owen, Chris, Alan, Ben, Will, Mike and a few others. One or two of them would have been a year older than you. Most of them would have been your year and maybe one was a year behind you.

As far as SKJ, like I said, I was surprised by how willing Curtis was to discuss him and how he wasn't falling over himself to compliment his game. I felt that Curtis was almost dogging him. He really emphasized that SKJ had a lot to work on. I too find his recruitment and commitment to UK a bit puzzling as Cal usually can get the pick of the litter and I just don't think SKJ is an elite talent. Everybody goes pro from UK but I'll be surprised if we're ever watching SKJ play minutes in the NBA.

@gunslingerdick, of course I know all of them! I was a boarder, unlike most Duke fans, I am actually from Durham! Haha! I think we may have crossed paths! You might even have heard of the guys I ran ball with Tuffy, Jeff, Kevin, Stevie, Chris (now baseball coach at Duke) and even some of your guys like Sean West! I'm good with you knowing my name, Jamar. Interesting to find out that we had so much in common.
Regarding Staples, it could also be the phenomenon that this kid's head probably doesn't fit on our little campus, and he probably has developed a superhero complex. Staples seems like a good guy, and straight shooter, so not surprising to see him give his real two cents. Well, it was great talking to you. I love your posts during basketball season, and look forward to this year's back and forth!

I am definitely not blown away by SKJ. I do think he is a very good player but not the kind UK pursues so doggedly. I liked him for us because of the fact that he was a 4* and we have been missing on the top 15 types. UK has now committed schollies to he and Humphries and neither seems close to the one and done types they so adore. SKJ 247 #40 , Rivals #51 , Scout #47 and ESPN #56 not the usual ranking of a one and done or at least one that goes early.

With all do respect, those rankings (I could be mistaken) haven't been updated since the end of the summer. Those tracking SKJ's progress will tell you that it was his progression by the end of the summer period that have most folks excited. I personally think he's right on the edge of 5 star status. I wouldn't argue with anyone for having him just inside or out.

The difference IMO is where some "5 star" kids have shown their ceiling, SKJ has not.

He would've been a decent "get", but as I said all along, I'll take Markannen as a true Stretch 4 any day.

Cal does not shy away from lesser rated players.
Remember Jr. WCS who just went lottery........seems no one wanted him 3 yr ago.
Marcus Lee (5*) returns for his Jr year in '15-16.
Humphries & SKJ are currently 40-50 rated.
If Cal is not satisfied, he will try for a top 10 front court man.
UK also has Tai Wynyard (New Zealand) coming in either for Spring on next Fall ..6'10'' 250#
Really, I think he will focus on wings and guards as we likely loose 2 or 3.
All the better big men seem to be on Duke's and UNC's shopping list also.

BTW..regarding ratings......Does anyone remember Murray's rating at this time last year? I don't..

Hate Kentucky got this kid. SKJ blew up over the summer. He will no doubt be ranked higher when the ratings are updated. I think he is better than most of our options left except for Giles and Bam. Time to move on though.

Allen, Bradley, Bolden, DeLaurier, Huell and Markkanen are all better.... Complain if we don't land 1 of those kids..

We can't even get an official visit from delaurier and Princeton does...as he just set his officials up today!!

Not going to complain bro. Half of those kids you named we aren't in their top 3. Delaurier just set his officials and we aren't on the list. The only kid I think we have a legit shot at getting is Bradley and maybe Markkanen based on recent news. If you've seen SKJ play this summer then you know my argument is legit against your list.

FTR, if my son gets an offer from Princeton, I don't care what other schools are after him...he's taking an official to Princeton.

A parent with the right priority............refreshing.........:)
I was a Bill Bradley fan.......on to Oxford....let the NBA wait.

Delaurier just recently had a visit with us. Was it official? No, but I think that may be the reason he hasn't set an official with us. I don't think he has gone out to see the schools he set an official with yet. And if we land Bradley and Markkanen, that would be better than SKJ/Bradley or SKJ/Markkanen. I've seen some 2017 NBA mock drafts where Markkanen is already in the top 20.

I'm not sold that Bradley is better than SKJ but I get what you are saying. If we land Badley and Markkanen I will definitely be happy.

Only if we land Giles.........but I still think he would
play ahead of Lee (if he returns) and the Aussie.
I think you guys are going to be pleasantly surprised with Humphries. SKJ might be longer and more athletic but I reckon first practice Isaac will put him on his backside, the kid has a mean streak - not quite like Bogut did as a teen, but pretty intense none the less.

Given that Humphries will have a years experience on SKJ, you could be right.
If Humphries, SKJ and Wynyard (who enrolls Dec '15) are all we have. (assuming Lee may jump)
both will start and all 3 will get plenty pt.
The 4th man would be Senior Willis, thus Cal is looking for an addition, hopeful a 5* (Giles) would be just fine.
Getting Giles out of your state would be a miracle.

Back to Humphries.....hoping he will be another Jorts Harrellson.....Cousins, he's not.
