man back in the 70’s and 80’s that was a top 10 job most any coach woulda jumped on. Now its a punchline. Heres what i take from it. They totally fked over phil fulmer and immediately became damaged goods. Coaches talk and noone wanted a piece of that dumpster fire after that and nothing they’ve done since has changed it. Now They couldnt attract a shark with blood. Growing up in asheville i was always having to deal with their hill billy fans and i am laughing my ass off at their incompetence. Karma bitchez.

I'm wondering if they will target Cutcliffe now

May be their only hope at a reputable head coach. If not they will be relegated to coordinators looking for head gigs.

That job is a lot less attractive now than it was 48-72 hours ago.

And it was already pretty unattractive to begin with.
And for the same reason: those Florida-level insane boosters. They demanded Fulmer's head, though he was an alum and had won a National Championship. And gotten Peyton Manning to Knoxville.

You know it's bad at Tennessee when a football coach would rather stay at Duke than go there. I get it, there's way more job security, but it still shows how far the UT program has fallen.

There was a time when idiot Vols fans would have assumed they could get any Dook coach they wanted, maybe even Rat Face. Now, they can't get Cutcliffe.

It's a crying shame.

I mean that sincerely. If Cutcliffe were at Tennessee, he couldn't be the Dook coach beating Fedora.

I just read that Mike Gundy has talked to UT about the position. No formal interviews yet though.

The only thing potentially good about Gundy going to Tennessee would be that Fedora could be on a list of 5 possible replacements at Ok St.

Would they still want him after his record this year?

Omg please let them hire doeren.
Hell no. I want Doeren at Moo for a decade more. This was supposed to be THE season for him. He's been preaching to wait for this season for 3 years, and everything fell their way -- FSU quit after their loss to Bama, Louisville was Lamar Jackson and no one else -- and yet they still only managed 8 wins.

I don't know. Seeing the moo base implode at the loss of a coach would almost be worth it. Besides, the have proven already they can't hire a decent coach if their life depends on it, so chances are they won't find anyone worth a crap anyway.

Sounds like they are just throwing darts at a dart board.
Kevin Steele played for Johnny Majors at Tennessee. Surely he's na safety valve if it keeps getting worse.

When Gundy was fighting with T. Boone, Tennessee thought they'd get him, and then settled for Jones.

Butch Jones is a midwesterner who coached in the MAC. Doeren is a midwesterner who coached in the MAC.

Vol math says no way to Doeren.

You got to love NCAA athletics. I coach goes 8-4, in the process beating only 2 P5 teams with winning records and a bigger football program is interested in him. Ha Ha.

Maybe Randy Shannon will take the bait since Florida has fired him and 3 other coordinators. Shannon is a pretty good recruiter.
Tennessee already rioted over Schiano who is much more qualified than Randy Shannon. A similar reaction would ensue. Shannon isn't even on Tennessee's radar.

I'm not sure why Mullen fired Shannon, other than the fact that it's not "his guy". He recruits well, and while he's not a great HC, he's a pretty good defensive coordinator.

But that's all he is. That and a good LB coach.

Shannon did NOT build that D at Miami. Butch as HC and Greg Schiano as DC built it. When Schiano became Rutgers HC, Shannon inherited the best D in the country, with 3 deep talent.

If you look as Miami scores starting with the 3rd year of Coker as HC and Shannon as DC, you will find that when Miami faced a team with much less talent on Offense than the Canes had on D, the Canes D dominated. But when Miami faced a team with good talent on Offense and a 1st rate OC, the Canes D was exposed, at times embarrassed. The Louisville offense did to Randy Shannon's D what it did to John Bunting's D. The LSU offense lookd like the most brilliantly innovative in the country versus Randy Shannon's D.

Sooner or later Bear Bryant will arise from his grave and the "Bama-Tennessee War" will become a fact, not just a dream.

The UT coaching search is getting more hilarious each day. Is it to late for them to ask Butch to come back?

Pack Pride is now rejoicing that Doeren is back lol. They spend all season talking about how much they hate him but now they're rejoicing. They literally only care about beating us.

Maybe they can call up Heath Shuler and Peyton Manning and see what they are up to these days! :)

Along those lines - don't be surprised if they offer Tee Martin. He is a QB alum and the SC OC.

I just don't see Martin being able to go head to head and win 50% of the time against Smart and Mullen, much less Saban.

But then again, neither could Schiano. They really befouled their bed on this one from the very start.

I can't see how any respectable coach would have any trust in the AD when he clearly showed last Sunday that he has no backbone to stand up to angry fans and support his coach.

How long before Fedora's name gets thrown in the lottery?
