Some things I'm learning about our recruiting...

Don't worry brah, keep the faith.
I always do, brah. Try it every once in a while, it feels great.

archer that knowledge is limited to a select few
Wonderful of them to share their wisdom with us know nothings. Who would have known that we should try to sign elite players, or that this wasn't a top 5 class, or that there's a direct correlation between having top talent and winning? Sheer genius!

"Know nothings" is so yesterday.
I prefer what another poster here said one fine day because it's so elegant and simple..

Unwashed masses.

Archer figure out a hack into the premium boards or something? Close this thread down mods, too much gold here.

I mean...it was sorta relevant in the TB thread because we were talking about lack of high ranked big men recruiting lately so it hurts extra to lose TB.

I figured if we could just have a thread about our recruiting woes that is based on the premise of restating the same patently obvious complaints/concerns over and over ad nauseum, it might allow us to actually discuss a little more basketball on the other threads. I know, what a novel idea.

I can see both sides if this discussion. I have also worried about the recruiting woes we have suffered here lately. Joel James comes to mind when we talk Carolina big men that weren't highly ranked. He was ranked in the 60's or higher. He got better over the 4 yrs at UNC but nothing to where he could have played the mins Meeks played this season. I think it's fair to say we don't want to have 4 yrs of play from 2 bigs the way Joel James played. I didn't include Brooks because he looks like a big with more athleticism than the other 2 and would be able to play more of Roy's style. Just my opinion peeps.

Agreed. But then it devolved into "We don't have...", "They won't...", "We can't...". Rinse and repeat 10 times. We got it the first time.

One needn't consult the Oracle at Delphi(Heeelz46) to know that we want/need to sign some elite bigs, or that this isn't one of Roy's better classes, or that it's going to take time for these lower ranked players to develop. Jimminy Crickets, anybody on this board could have told us that. Just because he's swimming in the shallow end of the gene pool doesn't mean everyone else is.

- We need to sign some elite big guys.

- This is Roy's worst class, on paper.

- We're in trouble next year because we didn't sign any elite big guys.

- We really need to sign some elite big guys!

Well right now we have a 5(Felton) and a 4(Brooks) and 3 3's and Knox still out there too!!!

btw, I just can't understand why Bradley wouldn't want to come back. He could improve in so many areas! He would turn in huge numbers and be the talk of everybody in our great conference, and all over TV as well! He'd be the shit on campus and be so visible on TV. He be talked about by all the announcers in all 40 of our games on TV! It'd be his on marketing and publicity tour next year!!! Tony and his dad need to realize how him coming back would do wonders for him on and off the court!!! It's not like he's making this decision on his 3rd or 4th year!! Its only his 2nd year!! He could still go after next year which would still be 2 years early!!! Tony and his dad aren't thinking about what coming back would do for his entire career!!! He'd be the talk of college basketball! He would improve so much and have a blast 1 more year in college, not to mention probably going top 10 next year!!! If he goes this year, I think he will regret it for the rest of his life! For example.. If he declares now, he will be forgotten about and buried in the D league and make minimal $ compared to making big time money after next year!! Come back Tony. Ball out next year.. Have a blast being at UNC, learn one more year in our program.. we'll win it all again. You'll probably win all kind of NCAA awards and conference(ACC) awards.. and while doing all this, you'll be building your foundation for a 15 year career in the NBA! And most of all.. the whole year extra you'll have under your belt, you will have gotten stronger and wiser and improved your entire game!!!!! And by coming back you will have made your self Millions and Millions more and turned yourself from a boy into a man!!!! Think about what you could do and where you would put yourself amongst the all time greats!!! YES, UNC NEEDS YOU TB, BUT YOU NEED US JUST AS MUCH MY FRIEND!!! Come back and build and finish what you started this year!! You will be glad you did for the rest of your life!!!!

Roy, you know that old HOF coach we have, has worked his tail off to get us the best he could in spite of the NCAA and all the negative recruiting.

We have the best he could get for us. Now we can look forward to seeing what he can get out of them or wring our hands and fret-sweat on what we missed on and blame him along the way and act like a bunch of spoiled brats.

I chose to pull for what we have no matter what! KNOWING he has done all he possibly can.

Refuse to look down on any kid who chooses to be a Tar Heel!

GO HEELS!

Did anyone in that thread blame Roy? I didn't see that at all. Everyone acknowledges that the NCAA mess has made his life extremely difficult with recruiting and we've lost kids we normally wouldn't.

Absolutely spot on .. we need to recruit more elite bigs like UK and more guards and wings like dook so we can stop watching college basketball when the round of 32 .. or 16 at best is over .. somebody hide my shoelaces, bed sheets and chairs lest I be tempted to pull a Hernandez for the sorry state of affairs with UNC basketball. Might be able to step away from the ledge if that sorry azzed coach knew how to condition and develop players but he just has no track record there... woe is me .. OAD OAD OAD ..

I've seen it all season, where the crap you been?

Really? Everyone questions his timeouts but other than that it's pretty much been universal praise for the job he did with our team. We all want the freaking court named after him. Why are you so sensitive to this? We love Roy.

It would appear to me that if there is any hand wringing , it's coming from those who can't stand dissenting opinions. I have only stated that I don't see big contributions from the big men not rated in the Top 100. I am not putting any of them down and history tends to support my opinion. Tony leaving may very well force them into more play time than they are ready for and force the team to rely on wing scoring.

this whole thread is dishonest and disingenuous

Absolutely nothing you said there is false. Yet some people here for some unknown reason take that as us bashing players/Roy/Dean Smith/Phil Ford/etc.

So sensitive.

So WHY keep beating a dead horse as to who we are getting and not getting?

Roll with what we have and let Roy and Company do their thing.

Because what we have isn't going to get it done. I'm not complaining about Roy. He just won us another title. But every blue blood needs top talent. 2015 and onward we've missed too much. Just that simple

So sitting around whining and all gloom and doom is the best answer to our problem? What can be done about it? Sometimes in life you have to learn to go with what you have and make the most of it. Roy and Company will.

No, Mike. I'm not going to necessarily whine or shout 'boo hoo' all the time, but I will voice my concerns.

I will watch the games. I will root for the Heels in the good and bad times. Roy is not a quitter and I can take solace in that. But I don't want to regress to where we were back at the turn of the 21st Century. That's all I'm saying. It's just sure as hell looking that way with us missing out on the best players all the time.

So how exactly is discussing different view points on players , whining and all gloom and doom? You do know this isn't Berkeley .......uh bad comparison. Never mind.

When there are posters here (not you) who call the reasons we're having recruiting issues "excuses", that is a direct slap at Roy.

Since I know you're referring to me, I'll take the time to address it.

Roy is doing all he can. I grasp that situation. But I don't think the scandal is the ONLY factor as to why we aren't getting better players. And when people try to save face by overhyping the lower ranked kids we have coming in, that's what I mean by excuses.

Yeah. Here's another factor: Some certain programs dont play as clean and/or straight-up as we do. That's not an excuse. It's a fact.
We don't have a World Wide Wes, or a Capel, or a Pasternak, nor should we ever.

And nobody here that I've seen is "overhyping" anybody... and nobody has to "save face", whatever the hell that means.
Jalek is a stud. Best Lead-PG in this class.
Platek and Brooks can flat play and I'll take either in any class we recruit.
Manley was in all likelihood destined to be Top-50 before catastrophic injuries. If, I repeat IF he can recover while he's here then Roy got a damned steal. If not? Oh well. Worth the risk.
Huffman is a project with size and strength.
Plus all except Jalek are likely 4-yr players.

Honest question 34, what do you think is our problem with the recruiting drop off besides the scandal?

GooD GOD!!! We have JUST won the NATIONAL TITLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you folks who are constantly and I mean Constantly blabbing on about your concerns, how things are slipping and we are not getting this kid, or that many stars for the love of God ENJOY THE TITLE OK

You guys and I know all about you and your clique, revel in coming on this board( which some of you claim to HATE... ironic isn't it??? but you are here day after day after day throwing as much cold water as you can on the team, Roy, hell anything just to have a "discussion"

Meanwhile, those of us who DO criticize and DO take exception with Roy and the team from time to time , realize that in the end he has done a FANTASTIC job in the most difficult of circumstances , with players that were not the most hyped or given the most "stars" from some rating service or website. Would you trade the last five years with Dook?? Ky ??? ANYONE??

I am so blessed and fortunate to be a Heels fan. We have an incredibly special program...not PERFECT, NOT Immaculate ,NOT without Fault, Including the coach and yeah some of the players from time to time.

Man I feel sorry for those who are never satisfied, never stopping to smell the roses, just sit back and bask in the glory.

next season MIGHT be a challenge, we MIGHT fall off and NOT win as many games or go as far in the NCAA. We are not OWED that, we have no birthright to that ...you guys sound like Ky fans or dook fans... talk about spoiled.

Well I ve said enough You will NOT spoil this heels fans' joy at WINNING THE NATIONAL TITLE!!!!!and the accomplishment that each and every member of that team , a SPECIAL group of players led by a very special group of coaches starting at the top.
