Yea I know this coming from the guy who wanted Coach gone last year at the beginning of the season. Learned I have!
This team is different than last years. Still trying to find an identity without Brady. I am very impressed with Nance so far. Getting him involved in the offense, along with a rotation is a work in progress. It’s still early so let’s remain calm and optimistic. Meanwhile I really like Puffs improvement and he seems to be in the right place at the right time quite a bit. Leakys defense is outstanding and will only get better. Oh and I’m thinking Trimble is gonna be something before he leaves the hill. It’s all good folks, just relax and stay calm…

Quit saying stay calm after every game. We returned 4 starters and we look lost. We look worse every game. No signs of improvement. Last year was a fluke. We won’t even make tournament this year. Honestly, I’ll be worried playing Louisville or Florida State. They might beat us.

Is it really you writing this post Rose? :D

I agree on the optimism on Nance, Puff, and Trimble. Honestly, the biggest reasons the team has disappointed so far are offensive cohesion as well as Bacot, Love, and Davis' poor decision-making with the ball IMO. I think they'll work it out to a degree eventually. The team definitely has top 5 type talent.

Lol, you could try to be more subtle about trolling.

Definitely not a troll pal.. die hard heels fan.. you’re delusional if you’re optimistic about these morons. We returned 4 starters and have struggled every game this year. Tell me how 4 starters from just 7 months ago aren’t in better rhythm than this??

I’m a realist. Call it like I see it. I havnt seen anything to make me think they’re gonna do anything anytime soon.

Everyone should forget about the expectations they had for this team. They were always unrealistic and based off a small sample size of success.
I agree with that. They're not the best team in the country or the 2017 team. They could be a top 4 seed though and competing for the Final Four again.

Our offensive scheme is terrible.

This is not the NBA.

Unless we make 3s there is nothing to this offense.

And our guards are playing junior high level basketball.

Nance is not Brady. He has low post skills.

Stay calm? This isn't some school that is striving to be decent. This team went to the final four. Ranked #1 a week ago. Now, probably won't be in top 25. Getting to the final 4 last year was a bit of fools gold. Drew good matchups, and in a couple games, Caleb hit all the wild stuff that usually cost possessions that got UNC to the championship game. Hopefully Hubert will put a foot up their butt and get this crowd in gear.

I have been calm the entire time. I can see the proper trajectory and I understand the goal is not to win in November, but to grow to be a force by the end of the season! Last season was about growth, coaching, and our players learning to play well together! We played a gauntlet of teams and beat their collective arses and no revisionist history will change that! I see our bench growing and I see peeps getting healthy (except for Bacot). I fully expect us to take off soon and laugh at the doubters while soaring back to the top!

So much negativity in the game thread. The sky isn't falling guys. Everyone who feels Carolina basketball is done and the world is coming to a end should just relax and see how all of this pans out before deciding to walk the plank and getting their final will completed. Give Davis and his staff a fair chance before predicating doom and gloom...

Regardless of how this season plays out, I think it was asinine to give a coach an extension after one season when literally nobody was trying to hire him away. Why not wait 2-3 years before you bet on the future?

We are 9 games in and can't seem to pass defend or rebound. When is the time to realize the coaches are the problem. We don't do anything well for a veteran team that's very concerning. We had 6 assists on 24 makes and that is the trend every game. Until we start moving ths ball and sharing the team won't have any chemistry.

Am I the only one who sees a difference between the kids Hubert brought here and those that preceded his time as HC? The bar for play is obviously lower for freshmen but from an attitude and effort standpoint only Puff is on their level.

RJ was at one point the only one still fighting til they added subs in. That effort was contagious imo.

I am not sure if this team just doesn't take to coaching. Defense is awful. VT has that one kid that just kills folks from the 3, and UNC constantly left him wide open to build that 1st half lead. And on offense just little movement. Everything seems to be one on one. Of course, Bacot not being there made a difference, but this team has miles to go to be a team that threatens on a national level.

My plan to stay calm…
* no more watching games live
* no more game thread
* no more prediction contest
* maybe check the result a few hours after
* see how it’s going in Feb… if it’s still a hot mess I’ll spend my waking hours doing something else.

What I don’t understand is why everyone keeps talking about learning and growing. This team has 4 returning starters from last season.. how much more learning and growing do they need?

They should have been one of, if not the most “ready to go” team out there. Who else is returning 4 of the same starters? Those teams aren’t having issues this bad. Those other schools hasn’t struggled in every game they’ve played all year.

To me the “need more time” stuff is garbage. This team has more experience and talent than anyone else.

If we had 2-3 new starters this year, maybe I could understand the needing more practice or time kinda talk, but we don’t. If you havnt improved 9 games in, I don’t see it getting much better.

Last year did take time because it was a new coach and new style from Roy’s. This year is not. Same coach, same style, same players as last year other than Nance.

The problem is Nance and RJ.

Learning and growing might apply only to the new guy, Nance, but nobody else. Unfortunately, the other four "Iron" members are actually very average college players, and definitely not NBA material. NBA scouts are collectively pretty smart, and they have repeatedly passed over Bacot, Black, Love, Davis, and even Nance. And for very good reasons. Manek was the most NBA ready and he made all the others much better by his presence, and without him, the deficiencies of this team are more glaring.

I heard Manek purchased a Kangaroo down under…..such a great player and person!

yes, he reminded a little of larry byrd in that regard. that kind of team player is extremely rare nowadays.

But the NBA passed on Manek several times as well. You do know he tested the water and got feedback to return, then went undrafted, and is playing in Australia after not making Charlotte as an undrafted free agent.

Not meant as a negative on Brady, just baffling to use the NBA scouts for your reasoning.

Today was a stinker. Have to win some games in December or it's going to be tough to make the tourney even if we get our act together.

Have said it my entire career of fandom, since adopting it in the college game.
‘Live and Die by the three!’

I remain calm. I never even look at game threads because every bump is magnified and peeps have no patience. I believe we have the building blocks and the coaching to grow into a great team so I can wait to see it happen! I am impatient to see the improvement, but I find it telling how many peeps are ready to jump ship! Please go ahead and jump....but don't try to return when it turns around! I would respect the character displayed by someone who actually could do this, but I am not silly enough to expect it to happen! Peeps have self-identified, but they won't actually own it when things start to trend upwards!

Good attitude TPFK ... I'm with you! I'd be more than happy with an 8-seed in the big dance ... we'll see if we can get there. If not, we still beat dook last year to ruin K's goodbye tour.
Go Heels !!!

I think we will easily make the NCAAT, my guess is maybe a 4 seed, it is a long season and I do expect the middle part of it to go much better than it did last season. The RETURN of 4 of the 5 guys that were the Iron 5 last season isn't doing us any favors because folks think it should be a cake walk back to the final 4, it will NOT be because it NEVER is.

Against VT, thou my eyes bleed for most of that game, watching some of the worst examples of college basketball I have ever seen, that last what 10mins or so, we started to show up, we started to see some Tar Heel basketball, that was pretty cool. We didn't see Caleb throw up 25 shots only to hit 5 of them, the TOs in the second half were not as ugly as that first half display.

But honestly, Hubert and his staff have to step it up and take charge, I am very concerned that has not seemed to happen yet.

And you guys know what I think of Trimble but dang, did you see that block, he went straight up with the big man and rejected that puppy, wish Nance could have saved it back to one of our guys! AWESOME SETH!

This is worse than last year's rat because last year was the first year of Davis as HC. So it was natural to expect many hiccups. But now Davis is experienced as HC. The team is his. He should have a form handle on it. And his players who started last year should not look like green 18 year old freshmen blind by the big time lights.
