Sterling Manley Commits

That is actually nothing but your opinion. How can you definitively state that you already know what kind of career either Huffman or Manley will have at UNC? Oh I know, YOU DON"T KNOW, do ya...
My problem is that I've seen clips of Huff but none of Manley. So I'm basically clueless about Manley.

I think Huff is very raw and could fail in a number of ways, but I also saw enough promising moves and general behavior to think he has a good chance of being very good for us by his junior year. We could land better players who would start ahead of him, but he should be an acceptable starter by his 3rd year. Maybe as a soph, but I don't think I'd bet on that. I'm not expecting much from him as a frosh, but I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Of the 3 lower-ranked guys were were looking at a month ago - Stokes, Brooks and Huff - I thought Huff was the rawest, Brooks the smoothest, and Stokes the most ready to do damage as a frosh (but also maybe the most likely to foul out).

Question for you, Dave (or anyone else who wants to weigh in): do you think either Manley or Huff will be able to start effectively for us next year? Put another way, would either of them start ahead of Luke? Obviously we'll know better when we've seen Luke this season and when we see how the other 2 develop as seniors, but what's your take now?

Im not dave clearly but to answer your question Id be shocked if Manley or Huff were legit ready to go Acc starters next year. Obviously we have those who are convinced that Manley is a 5 star undercover recruit but lets just say I have to see it to believe it. The problem is, obviously if we dont snag our big targets one of these two or both will have to play big minutes NEXT year.

We were in a similar position for a couple of years when Mac was here. Light on the front line and no bigs quite ready to step up full time to help out. That's why we ended up with the smallball lineup of

McAdoo
Hairston
Bullock
Strickland
Paige

Which was a very fun team. Talented but short.

If our 2017 class is done...

Berry
Felton
Robinson
Pinson
Bradley

Or swap Robinson for Maye and play Theo at the 3. (I'd like to say swap Robinson for PJ and play Pinson at the 3.)

I will be more than glad to answer with my opinion on if I think either Manley or Huffman would be able to effectively start for us next season. I would PREFER that not happen, as you know I feel like we get PJ and with him it is an easy call, PJ and Tony start, Luke I think gets solid PT as a reserve and I think Manley may be the more ready to produce as a freshman.

But let's say Roy does not get anyone else from this 17 class, let me speculate what I think would happen in that event. Do ya start Luke with his experience, Manley even thou he is more of a center than a forward, or Huffman who has IMO a more ready to play body but is more raw skill wise? Really depends on Luke's development but based on right now I would maybe hedge toward Manley starting. But another interesting twist could be Theo (as a senior) in small ball for more minutes a game, he has been very effective in that role already.

But I am guessing the question is more about Huffman and I do think the kid could come in and give us some effective minutes as a freshman just using that big frame of his and running the court, not a lot of scoring but he could grab some rebounds and play physical with 5 fouls to give. Could he give us 5-7mins a game, I think he could if we had to go that route.

I'm surprised so many people feel like Berry will be back.
Kinda similar to Paige from an NBA prospect standpoint. He's only 6 feet tall. I think he could have success at the next level running a 2nd team offense for a very long career, but he's not a player GMs are going to get excited about. Kris Dunn is the type of PG that the NBA is after. Joel Berry, I love him, but he screams COLLEGE point guard.
