I’m about to cut the cord from directv, and I’m now considering YouTube TV and sling. Any of you guys have any experience with any tv streaming services?

I want to be able to watch lots of college sports, and HBO and AMC are musts. I was thinking about the sling combo with HBO added.

If any of them get access to WatchESPN and the ACCN that would be huge.

I liked Youtube TV. It has a lot of sports channels (was great for college football), but it doesn't have ACCN or WatchESPn. I didn't care for Sling when I had it. Youtube also has all of the affiliates, even CBS (which most of the streaming services don't have).

I wanna dump DirecTV, but they're the only ones that have the NFL Direct ticket
I have Verizon service and the NFL app lets me watch games on my phone. They are the same regional and national games that I get in my area but at least I can watch them wherever I’m at.

But I’m not sure if you could get the Sunday ticket on an app. If so, you could use that and then broadcast from your device to your tv. I chromecasted the Tar Heel games that were only available by streaming on the ACC site this year, and it wasn’t bad.

Yeah, see, I only like watching Redskins games, so my brother and I can watch them together (a bonding thing). Otherwise, I would dump it and never think twice about it. I'm literally paying so we have that to share! I barely ever watch TV!

Apparently there are some negotiations going on to bring streaming rights to other services. You might not have to keep it once that happens.
I sure hope so. Because, I can tell you, DirecTV sucks. God forbid that it RAINS! Here's a technology that in 2019 hasn't figured out how to overcome the adversity of rain clouds. During the dook game, it went out for like 10-15 minutes? That's unacceptable. And, it's frequent enough to be a pain in the but-tox. If it's raining, you're likely to be indoors anyway. And, you're more likely to watch TV! Well... if it's raining too hard, forget it.

Yeah, I tried them but had the same issue. Switched as soon as my contract was up.

Yeah I had directTV and it was a real pisser when raining hard.

If you do an OOTB search for threads with “cutting the cord” in the title, you’ll find a few discussions we’ve already had about it. Might be of interest to you.

I'm leaning towards Youtube TV with an HBO GO subscription. I've already got Netflix and access to Hulu so that should be plenty of stuff to watch. And no more worrying about weather knocking out service.

directv is fine for me reception wise, maybe it’s dish locale, i never lose reception.

however, i would love to not get it...they upgrade me all the time when i fake complain, but i could do w/o.

the problem for me is sunday ticket, the greatest invention for sports fans...if i could watch dallas every weekend w/o directv, i would.

This is my set up right now and I love it.

Do you get your local stations using an antenna?

I don't care about local stations for the most part. I get YES (yankees baseball) on YouTube TV standard with my subscription and my news (CBS, ABC, etc) is all NY so I do think they have some regional customizations.

And I use the HBO Now app, not HBO Go. I thought you had to have a subscription to HBO through cable or satellite or something to have HBO Go.

So HBO Now can give you the same programming without a subscription to another package based service? Is it their streaming only service or something like that?

I cut the cord and have an over the air antenna, Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime. I lose ESPN, but I have “Access” to it through “other” means. Ahem!

Same with HBO Go. I shall say no more.

If I could get ESPN programming (their BS ESPN + service is crap) without a subscription to cable/satellite/other service with crap I don’t want, I’d jump at it. True ala carte services will happen with almost every major player eventually, but I am not sure I’ll live long enough to enjoy it.

Yes, they have the same programming. The only difference is hbo now is streaming only.

How much is YouTube tv? We watch very little tv and about 80 percent is PBS, history channel, etc.
It recently went up from about $40 a month to $55 a month because they added some networks. HBO NOW app is about $15 a month so I’m paying $70 a month compared to $200 plus a month I was paying for DirectTV. I basically have the same programming I had before.

I need to do this. I’m on cable and I pay about the same amount

HBO NOW is overpriced. Netflix and Hulu are about $10, which has a little of everything, but on-demand streaming for one single channel is $15? Doesn't make sense.

Netflix is now $13 for the most popular plan. I recently discovered that my previous cable company didn't completely close out my account. I currently have access to HBO, Cinemax and Starz streaming without having to pay.

Yeah, I forgot about that, and the funny thing is I own that plan. Still, I don't think HBO NOW should cost more than Netflix. It's just shows from one network.

It gives you access to all their movies and series/shows on demand so it’s actually better than one channel.

I understand your line of thinking. I think the thought process is that HBO has that prestige reputation about their shows and movies. They still have movies from other studios though. Netflix is going to start running into this "problem" of only having shows/movies from mostly one network. A lot of networks are starting their own streaming service, which means less content for Netflix. That's why they've ramped up their spending on original content.

Does everyone here use Vudu? That's another streaming service that provides free movies, with ads. It also allows you to rent and buy movies as well as consolidate all of your purchased movies into one place. Any service you purchased a movie from (Google Play, iTunes, Fandango, etc) will all show up in Vudu.

Ugh, Youtube has gone up to $55? Someone really needs to come up with a true a la carte system.

I have it downloaded on my Roku and watch the free movies sometimes.

Yep. I have a Vudu account tied to my Walmart account. If you buy a movie from Walmart, you can put in the code that's on the inside cover of the case on those annoying papers and stream it from Vudu whenever you want. Not sure that is a "benefit" necessarily, but if you're on vacation and want to watch a movie you don't have to bring a DVD with you. Still, it isn't a bad service. I have bought a couple of movies on there that I wanted to have.

Walmart actually owns Vudu. Bought it in 2010.
