Man .. I tell you .. this is the time of year I really love. We are heading in to the stretch run .. have had the entire season to assess who is who in the zoo .. we have seen the pretenders stumble and fall and now we are getting a grip on who the contenders really are in both the ACC and the NCAA D1 and here's how I see it going forward.

Losing Kenny really hurt as he could have been a KEY player in the run but behind every cloud there has to be a silver lining and in this case I think the silver lining is Theo starting and the rotation tightening. A starting 5 of JB, JJ, TP, IH and KH is a friggin' awesome line up. Offensively you can bring JJ out to the 2 spot so teams have to respect his outside shot, which could open up the inside, yet have to respect his drive .. you could use Theo in a point forward role because of his ability to drive and/or dish .. and truth be know his jumper is getting better, Kennedy has elevated his stock with his inside game and mid range soft jumpers .. not to mention his focus on rebounding and if Isaiah can get in his head that defense is vertical he can make a much better contribution by getting more minutes. (Actually think Isiah's issues are more mental). That starting 5 has match up nightmares on opposing team defenses written all over it. Then when you have the options to bring in Luke Maye and Tony Bradley to sub for anyone on the front line there is little drop off and actually some gain in some areas.

I've read all the threads about UNC recruiting and how we can't get the 5* top shelf and all the gloom and doom bs but I will tell you this for a fact. There is no one better than Roy Williams when it comes to developing and instilling the team concept in his players and preparing them for the stretch run. His record speaks for itself.

No one can argue Ol Roy's ability to develop bigs...I think that discussion can be dropped. Is he the best? That would be an interesting argument.

I'm not sure about Pinson starting. I do like having his energy coming off the bench. On the other hand I like having our best players starting, especially when we are better compared to the opponents starters.

You would think the way our big guys develop we wouldn't have a problem getting them to come to UNC

Pinson starting probably improves our chances of jumping to a lead. We play better with a lead.

You aint just a kidding ... since Theo has been starting this team has caught a good dose of defensive enthusiasm. And over the last couple games I've noticed how Theo will get the ball and move out to the top of the key from time to time and JJ and JB will drift over to the wings and magically the middle will start to open up because there has to be some serious respect given to those 2 from 3pt land. The rotation has tightened a bit but the surprise has been how much better Seventh has played .. he has made great strides !!

This is the time of year when all the subbing and odd substitutions Roy does throughout the season starts to make sense .. and oddly (or not) enough it's the exact opposite for the nerds over in derm. Carolina Way baby :) .

IMO the Ginyard to Green change in 2009 says stick to your best 5 starting unless you have a close substitute to use like Jawad and Marvin 2005. Jawad would start and play 20-25 MPG but Marvin seemed to always be in during crunch time of the important games.

Roy likes having that defensive stopper in the starting five. Manuel,Ginyard. Green played to good to stay off the floor. KW, not so much..

We only have 1 more home game left this season.

Despite a good season and winning most of our road games, it's clear that this team has not been as good on the road. I hope we have worked through that and prove it over the next 2 games.
