The other site has a mock depth chart, and recently updated it to show that Strowbridge is now playing DT.

I wonder if this could've just been based on a practice observation in which there was some cross-training, or some dudes were sidelined or something.

Given that he's a big-boned kid, I guess it isn't a surprise that he could be a DT, but it seems like he would've made that move last yr as a RS Frosh rather than this yr. Supposedly he came in at 250, then was 270 last yr, I can't imagine he'd be up to 290 without adding tons of pudginess and he doesn't look blubbery.

I'm not sure which has a bigger prob, DT without Strowbridge or SSDE without Strowbridge.

Thoughts?

Aren't we pretty deep at DT now? Dalton, Crawford, Clarke, Dunlap, Riley, Gill, Dinkins. Seems like DE is the thinner position.

Powell too at DT.

I wonder if the staff will experiment with Lawler at OLB.
Interesting thought. Lawler is slated to play WDE and we already have decent talent/depth there with Drennon, Carney, and Fox. Lawler is probably too small to slide to SDE -- the weakest spot on the DE IMO -- but the linebacking corps is also in desperate need of help.

Lawler arrived at 6'3 219. He probably lost a tiny bit of weight after hurting his shoulder late Fall, but that is pretty light for a DE, especially considering how ripped he already looks - he looks like he's gotten in plenty of weight-room time. Maybe he could hit 245 by the time he's a junior, but we've already gotten guys that size in Carney (a jr this yr) & Fox. Carney was really productive, so Lawler has lots of competition at WSDE the next two yrs.

The practice photos i've seen show Powell still at DE. Has he gotten some snaps on the interior in practice?

Are the strowbridge moves permanent or just filling in for Crawford, Clarke, etc?

Apparently Clarke, Crawford and Dinkins aren't very active this spring - injuries or sitting out or someting. Don't know.

Is Dinkins still on the team? Haven't seen him in awhile.

Do you guys think RS Junior Cameron Dillard, a 6-4 315 pound center transfer from UF, will start next year? If nothing else he gives us solid depth at center. Seems like a great kid. He's graduated and will pursue his Masters at UNC.

This isn't a smartass answer, it's just factual. In 99% of cases, guys don't grad transfer to somewhere they'll sit the bench. They transfer somewhere that they'll play. Same with JuCo's in most cases.

So yes, I think he'll certainly be in the rotation and have a very good chance at starting. He started 8 games for Florida last season, so let's be real, that probably makes him one of the best OLmen on our roster now.

He's versatile too. He started at guard at Florida.

His primary goal for choosing a school wasn't the grad degree, rather the the playtime and opportunity to make it to the pros. He thinks (realistically or not) that he has a chance to make it to the pros despite getting jumped in the pecking order for first string at UF. He cited the 4 OL that we've put into the NFL as one attractive part of UNC, coaching another and said things like campus, etc weren't really part of the factor - he's all business, not coming here for the bbq and bluecups.

Arizona, the other contender might end up starting a RS Frosh...

So yeah, he'll be a starter here. None of Polino, Hatton or Prince were starting material last yr.

Hatton will move to guard and Dillard will start at C according to some insiders. Staff is high on Hatton. The word had been that Hatton would be at center because of his short arms.

HeelFan58, are you hearing that the staff is high on Hatton specifically regarding his potential at Center or are they just high on him generally?

It would be a damn mistake to move Hatton from center. Center is where he built his reputation as a high school recruit. Not saying he couldn't turn into a good guard but we all saw the growing pains last year. He's ready-made for center right now. Why would you move someone with only one year of eligibility to center? Then you just have to start all over again in 2018. Makes more sense to move Hatton back to center and keep it there.

Calling BS on these insiders.

He said in an interview that Kap told him that he saw him fitting in at center and I assume he chose UNC because he thinks he can start , so you can take it for what it's worth. I'll let the coaches make those decisions because my knowledge of who makes sense at what position on the OL is probably more limited than yours and I don't mean this as a smart remark. I will just be keeping my fingers crossed that the OL excels since the backfield is guaranteed to be inexperienced.

I don't know jack shit about the OL ins and out or about anything really. So most things I poast should be taken with pounds of salt :p

highjackers! What about DT or the lack thereof this spring?

I started a new thread on this Dillard vs Hatton stuff

Clarke , Dinkins and Crawford are all rehabbing. Dunlap has a minor injury according to reporters attending practice. Also LB Andre Smith seems to have put on size with no loss in speed and so has TE Carl Tucker..
