Any word on when the NCAA is going to wrap up their never ending investigation? What's it been, four years now? I understand that we prolonged it by hiring Weinstein to do an independent investigation but this is ridiculous. It's hard to definitively calculate the damage it's done to recruiting but I'm sure it's been significant. More and more I believe that's their intent in delaying the results.

wait, so people believe the ncaa is purposely delaying punishment because they want to damage a blue blood??????

why is crazy trying to be sold here?

So is tOSU a "blue blood in football??? How about USC ????they are ever bit a blueblood in those sports as we have been in bball and they got whacked

UCONN, Syracuse ring a bell??? They are big big time bball schools and they got whacked.

As I stated on the other post IMO the NCAA has little effective mechanism to go after us in the "scandal" they have limited options and are using their weapons ..delay delay delay to keep the cloud over Carolina s long as possible.

Syrace, Uconn, SMU, Louisville, OSU, USC were all examples of DIRECT INVOLVEMENT of the coaching staffs to NCAA violations that come under the NCAA guidelines to punish. That is not the case with UNC, at least that is not the case with Men's basketball and football as it applies to the AFAM stuff. Now that is not just what the NCAA said initially but remains their position AFTER the independent studies were released. WE saw that in the NOA and the delay after the NOA was released is only because we self reported an issue in soccer that required the NOA to include that sport as well.

But it was clear with the NOA, we gonna get the Lack of institutional control and that is probation and fine but the NOA was specific in acknowledging that men's basketball coaching staff was NOT directly involved. You do not post season ban, eliminate games already played, disallow banners already won, or cut scholarships without DIRECT involvement from the staffs.

The NCAA would dearly LOVE to hammer our basketball and football men's teams because they are getting a double ton of pressure by the media, by rival program fans, and by politicians to hammer us. But they know, if they hammer the men's basketball program they are just going to end up in court and lose on their lack of any authority over the quality of classes a school offers its athletes and any other students, the case is ONLY valid if proof is there that coaches guided players in to these classes and that proof does not exist for men's basketball. The NCAA is fully aware of this so their hands are tied no matter how much external pressure they get. They learned from the Paterno situation and once bitten are now twice shy.

i agree with this. i don't know who they are, but there are some influential abc'ers in the ncaa, i'm convinced.

david, myself and others have accurately portrayed the NCAA and its predicament. They will hammer us with LOIC and there will be some punishment, especially to women's BBall.

There is that "media narrative" that will stay out there for a LONG time The shallow know nothings, like the dookies woofies etc, lazy media types , and Carolina HATERS out there will continue to use that narrative as long as they can. The best antidote to this is to IGNORE them .There is NO way you can win any discussion with these dim bulbs. It is HOPELESS to argue facts etc

An exception is the dookies.... I use and will ALWAYS use the Lance Thomas attack and I will REMIND these cover up clowns of the massive skeleton in THEIR closet that continues to be covered up 6 years after the fact.

This is unchartered territory for the ncaa. An academic scandal that has bled into athletics without direct involvement save for wbball. There are lots of people smarter than me who disagree on the ncaa's jurisdiction here. Jay bilas for one claims the ncaa has very little jurisdiction. David glenn who has followed ncaa as close as anyone and who is a lawyer claims mball and fball will not be hit hard if at all. Then theres that retired judge on twitter who has gone toe to toe with bilas and disagrees vehemently as well as numerous commentators such as the ex va tech coach who claim mbball will almost certainly be hit with probation. All i know is that coach williams and fedora are both telling recruits that bball and fball will not suffer any sanctions. Thats a bold statement that neither would make without some assurance its true.

It's not that they're ABC'ers. But we're the current poster boy for the corruption in college athletics, one of the popular causes de jour. As such, they're campaigning for the NCAA to make an example of us. And the NCAA would love to make an example of one of the blue bloods but don't really have enough evidence to do so. By delaying their ruling indefinitely, they punish us by hurting our recruiting for four freakin' years, all the while continuing to benefit from one of their cash cows.

That doesn't make the NCAA ABC'ers, just hypocrites.

Are you so sure? What makes you think UNC would go to court?

You don't think the email where the academic support staff is complaining about the basketball program getting preferential treatment in the assigning of classes is a problem?
