This is too liberal even for me

What would be nice is if there was carbon paper underneath this form, where anyone who signs it actually has their carbon copied signature on a form that gives custody of their child over to a foster family. Would be good for the kids that have parents that would sign this thing.

I'm still finding it hard to believe there were so many kids that were not wanting to take 30 seconds to do this that the school felt the need to have a note TO sign. I am amazed. It's okay for the school to give the kids (or at least they did MY kids) very inaccurate information about how our Federal Reserve works and then to do something like this, is absolutely insane to me! We are so screwed!

I doubt there were a lot of kids who were against it. They most likely did it because one parent complained and/or they were afraid of getting sued by groups like the ACLU.

That was probably the case 5-10 years ago. But now the anti-traditional-American-customs momentum has been built to a point where there are a legit number of people behind it. It is trendy to be anti-tradition. It's trendy to play the victim role. It's trendy to grandstand against something that could be perceived as offensive. And yes, our nation's tone setter is the cause. He and his ilk love this shit.

Not his fault, he is just one of the biggest cheerleaders for this crap!
Obama has no problem authorizing the death of lots of innocent people through drone-bombing. So, for that, I dislike him and his administration. But, I have not seen any proof that he is cheerleading for American kids to NOT recite the Pledge of Allegiance in school. Can you show me where he's encouraging this?

Some of you are completely insane. A child should have to go to school in another country because he doesn't want to pledge allegiance to a piece of fabric or a god they don't believe in? There is nothing more American than having the freedom to NOT say the pledge of allegiance.

The pledge of allegiance is creepy as $hit. If you watched a classroom full of children from the late Soviet Union with their hands over their chest, monotonously swearing their allegiance to the motherland then you might get it. But good ole nationalism...

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I'm not really bothered if a kid doesn't want to say the Pledge of Allegiance. What bothers me is that the kid's abstinence requires a signed permission slip.

I completely agree. If a kid doesn't want to say it, then fine, don't say it. But I also am fine if the rest of the class ostracizes the kid for it. I might even be ok if the teacher were to get in on some heckling.

You boy are "creepy as shit".

Are you seriously comparing the pledge of the Soviet Union with our own? Slow down there Noam Chomsky.

You obviously aren't well acquainted with UNCBoy. He is potentially worse than Strum but has a shorter attention span.

What's the difference? Besides the fact that you aren't blinded by nationalism when it comes to another country. It would be just as creepy if it were China, India, or Canada for that matter.

I'm not sure I would lump strum in with uncboy. Strum is almost always respectful to other posters. uncboy can't go two posts without making a personal insult.

Strum is clearly far more patient with imbeciles than I am. See what I did there? Gottta keep the streak alive. But some of you just make it so damn hard not to insult you...

Yeah but dude, you compared our national anthem with that of the USSR, can you not see you're reaching there?

Not our national anthem. The pledge of allegiance. Little kids with their hands over their hearts monotonously repeating a nationalistic pledge of fealty that they were taught before they had any concept of what it actually meant. Much less concepts like the fine line between patriotism and nationalism.

The example of the USSR was to make it as easy as possible for you to understand how creepy it is. Most of you are only capable of seeing that if it's another country. It doesn't have to be an example that extreme. But obviously you completely missed the point there.

When I was in elementary school in rural VA, way back when, there was a female Jehovah Witness in our class, she did not recite the pledge, per her religion. I think she stood up, but that was it. I don't remember anyone making a big deal about it.

At least she didn't tell him he had a tiny D. It's progress.

Because that doesn't have to be said anymore. His attitude makes that quite clear.

Do you guys ever see fellas with big 'ol pickup trucks, big tires, loud and always driving a wee bit aggressive and taking off way too fast to show off??? Well women have a secret joke about those guys and if you ever see a couple of ping pong balls in a set of stockings or socks hanging off the trailer hitch that is from a woman that wants him to know he ain't got much of one and he's an idiot lol. Not kidding either. We talk about it when we are together and if we some cocky macho acting guy we laugh and call him tiny

Why? Kids singing about the president?

Its like when you go to a political rally and see children who are 4 and 5 years old holding up signs they can't even read. Indoctrinating children is wrong. Whether that's nationalism, religion, or even just political ideology. Teaching children a song may not seem to qualify as indoctrination to some, but how many of these kids have any real concept of Obama's domestic or foreign policies? At best they're having their childhood exploited for political utility.

Oh okay. I was confused. I thought they were cute. :)
