Back in the summer, some thought Jeremiah Tilmon might be our first commit (after Jalek, that is). But then he committed to Illinois. Then about 5 weeks ago, he decommitted from Illinois. I figured he'd be signing with Missouri (only because that's what people were saying), but he hasn't done that yet.

So here's the question: If Tony stays in the draft, should we try to land Tilmon?

I have no idea if he's interested, but he was at one time (if reports are to be believed).

Back then he was ranked around 25, iirc. Now he's listed at 39. Looking at a clip, 39 seems about right. He seems to have good body control and effortless elevation (although not too high) and an OK touch. If I had to guess from what I saw, he needs to ramp up his motor and pack on some muscle (or tone up), but could turn out very good. And would probably be able to handle decent minutes as a freshman.

Listed at 6'10.5 and 258. Looks leaner than that in the clip I saw.

Should we? Yes.

Will we? No.

First Tilmon has to qualify and that has been a concern. If some people are to be believed he has the ACT score and the grades now for that. Secondly he has to clear the NCAA Clearing house as he has transferred 3 times in 4 years. There may or may not be an issue with that. Lastly, there are some other rumors just starting to make their way around his original commitment to Illinois and an Illini staffer.

Long story short is Mizzou may even back off from him even through Counzo is from the same town as Tilmon and has the inside track for him. I see no way that Roy makes a play for him anymore. DePaul is now being floated as a possible landing spot.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't heard any of that. OTOH unless he did something impermissible during the Illinois recruiting, it sounds like the other concerns could be worked through.

I liked his potential from the beginning and I still do. I think he will grow into a really good big, but the rumors scare me a little. UNC must be extra vigilant to avoid even the appearance of any scandal at this point so I would bet Roy doesn't get involved.

I will reserve judgement on the rumors, however because I hate to judge these kids without fully understanding their situations!

We might hold that scholy, we have BHuff who can finish well above the rim, no need now but hold it for the next class, IMO.

From what I've heard (mainly here), we aren't going after Bagley and the rest of that class is light on good bigs. Of course that could be wrong, and some kids could blow up as HS seniors.

I'm staying optimistic that a couple of our incoming freshman bigs will eventually become very good for us. But I am not sanguine that that will happen next season. So adding another guy who could be ready to go and should develop well down the road would make me more confident going into the new season. Just a matter of odds - which improve with more bigs especially if one of them is higher ranked.

Edit to say Mizzou is probably back on him or may never have backed off. His recruitment has been interesting to say the least but don't expect Carolina to be a player as it's most certainly Mizzou.
