Work is a chaotic mess. Everything is either wrong, malfunctioning, working slow, or just pissing me off in general. I'm slightly hungover and the Mexico 20% ChickStrum Reacharound thread isn't helping my headache. I did have a Firehouse Sub for lunch though, so that helped a little. But in general, not a fan of today. And to top it all off, my parents are at GD Isle of Palms (cc @gunslingerdick) while I'm here slaving away at work.

Sorry, not sorry.....lol

I must take exception to the "So I Can Kill You All" part.

Or was it "So I Can Kick Your Ass"?

Firehouse Sub > Any problem life can throw at you in a day.

You've already won. Celebrate.

Damn you're pretty good at deciphering stuff. It was "again" not "all." It's only in jest of course.

I'm thinking you'd drive her nuts after reading some of your stuff on here. Besides, I thought you had a girl???
Girl please. I'm the sanest person on this board.

I rolled with the OG the Hook & Ladder. The cute cashier must have been able to tell I was having a bad day. She made sure they loaded that thing up with deli meat for me.

...or it could have been because I turned on the charm.

Oh, right before the big turn on the way to Wild Dunes. Nice. 51st street was always my honey hole.
Which big turn? The big bend where the Methodist Church is? I don't think their house is too close to Wild Dunes. WD is way too yuppy for my family's style.

ETA: Nevermind you're right. It is sorta close to WD. Still, we wouldn't touch WD with a 50ft pole

Meatball sub...all day long.

Nah, fam. Meatballs are great but don't belong on subs.

We beat hell out of Thomasville one night if that counts, lol.
Haha nice. I was just wondering. My best buddy moved down to Cairo a year back with his bride. He has a love/hate relationship with things down there. He loves that he sits on 15 acres but hates he can't make as much money down there as he can around Atlanta (duh).

Whole different world when you get as far down as Pelham. The gnat line is a damn real thing.

What?!? I love Wild Dunes. My family has vacationed there since before it was really even known about. Seriously, I have pics of me inside Wild Dunes at the age of 4. It's awesome. Private beaches, two great golf courses and a lot of other amenities. In fact, when I lived down there, I would get a tee time at one of the golf courses every now and then with no intention on playing golf - just to be able to get a pass and get through the gate. Then I'd just hang out. I've seen that place grow from a tiny little struggling resort to the behemoth it is now.

When I lived there, I was a much bigger fan of IOP than I was of Folly. Maybe because it was closer to me and probably because there were less hipsters. But my buddy has a house on Folly and he let me use it last September for a week. And I have to say that my opinion of Folly has changed. It's not as pretty there as it is at IOP. And just in general, it's a grimier feel to it. But it's far more "happening". More shops, more restaurants, more liveliness.

If you want "happening," you gotta go to "downtown" Sullivan's Island.

GSD, rank 'em -- IOP and surrounding area restaurants/bars:

The Windjammer
The Dinghy
Acme Lowcountry Kitchen
Page's Okra Grille
Long Island Cafe
Poe's (just added this one, and yes it is awesome like you said)

When I was growing up, I had a friend who was originally from NY, and we'd hang out at his place every few weeks to play video games and swim in the pool. His mom would make the best meatball subs I ever had, totally from scratch. She baked the bread, made the meatballs, and the sauce. I've had some solid ones since, but they all paled in comparison to those.

What kind of career change brought that kid's dad from New York City to Pikeville? He had to be on the lamb from the mob.

When I flew down to Charleston for the first time in July for work, we rented a house in IOP. The one thing that stood out to me was how murky the water is there. I am still used to Topsail Island and Wrightsville Beach, and both of those beaches can be crystal clear, depending on the time. Both IOP and Wrightsville feel like bath water in the summer...huge plus. Living in Virginia has almost forced us to go to the OBX every year, and I personally cannot stand it. The water is cold as f*ck (usually in the upper 50s, middle of the summer), and the shelf is very narrow...you walk out 2 feet and the dropoff is huge...I could be in neck-deep water (as a 6' tall adult) from walking out 2 or 3 steps. When you have two kids under 10 years old and no fear of the water...that's extremely nerve-wrecking.

I'm assuming you're joking. I mean, there's the one little intersection with a couple places but the only place worth a shit there is Poe's - which is amazing and probably my favorite spot in the entire Charleston area. But Bert's sucks (I think they closed anyway), Dunleavy's sucks. Atlanticville is a restaurant right near there and has amazing food but the ambiance is lame as hell. And the beaches on Sullivan's are very private and quiet but there are absolutely no waves and the beaches are fairly narrow for SC. My wife and I almost rented a house on Sullivan's but at the last minute pulled out because they price everything there as if it's the most amazing spot in the area and I just don't get it.

I literally don't agree with a single thing you just typed about IOP. The water does not get that warm in the summer and isn't as murky as you make it out to be.

IOP beach is pretty damn beautiful actually, and I've been to beaches up and down the Atlantic and Gulf.

Well, right off the bat, you're omitting the best two places on the island. The Sea Biscuit is the best breakfast joint in the area. I highly recommend. And the Boathouse has great food and the most amazing views of the Intracoastal Waterway at sunset - just gorgeous.

But to rank your's,

Acme - great food and more of a locals' spot
Page's - terrible atmosphere but really good seafood and well priced
The Windjammer - I avoided that place most of the time unless they had a cool band playing or when they did the bikini contest. It's kind of a hangout for the dregs of the island and for tourist. You can get some good drugs there though.

Not familiar with the other two spots.
