Trubisky #4 overall pick in CBS mock draft!

I don't see any reason for him to stick around. He's going to be a 1st round pick (2nd round if he really slides). As I stated upthread, I'd love to see the Pats take him with the last pick in the 1st round and groom him to replace Brady in 3 years.

Another 8-4 season or whatever it may be shouldn't really be too enticing to make him want to come back.

As long as the Browns don't take him he should go. I'd like to see UNC have an all pro QB that wins a lot of games in the NFL. That won't happen in Cleveland.

This sucks. If he and Hood came back next year we could make a legit run at the playoff. With next year's schedule, going 12-1 with an ACC championship would definitely be good enough for a playoff spot.

Not that I blame those guys in the slightest. It just sucks we waited all this time to only watch Mitch start for one year.

If he stays,it will shock the hell out of me,talking about a 12-1 record next year? If the Defense doesn't improve no way in hell. They floundered big time against Dook and Moo U....Two games this team had no business of losing.

talking about a 12-1 record next year?
Yeah, with our schedule I don't see that happening. I would be shocked if we get to 8 wins next year. We've got Cal, ND and UL next year. I know all are at home and ND and Cal didn't have a good year, but I don't expect to win any of those games. On top of that we play at VT, Pitt, GA tech and moo. I would bet we at least lose the VT and Pitt games. That's 7-5 right there. We could just as easily lose the moo and tech games as well. I think missing a bowl next year is a real possibility.

Whoa... why don't you expect to win them if Mitch and Hood stay?

I thought the defense was getting better???

I was going under the assumption that Mitch would leave. We are losing a lot on offense next year and Fedora doesn't know how to properly use a RB, so even if Hood stays he's not going to be used. UNC football history also shows that no matter how good our defense is, we will find a way to screw it up.

I was just saying that if we made it through the regular season with only one loss that the schedule is so tough that would be good enough. Clemson should be down next year, and we beat FSU this year. And we'd get two cracks at L'ville if they win the Atlantic. Next year's schedule is brootal. Not predicting we'd go 12-1... Just saying that the only way that happens is if our future NFL QB and RB decide to come back for their senior seasons. There's likely zero chance of that, so next year will probably be painful.

And there's only three seniors in the two deep on defense. So if they don't improve significantly, something is seriously wrong.

Sooo... I guess Trubisky is as good as gone?
If I'm not mistaken he's on track to graduate this year, so he really has no reason to come back other than he likes it here. If he is going to be a first round pick then how much he likes playing here shouldn't matter. I'm willing to bet that Fedora is telling him the same thing.

Would have thought the same thing about this year's offense too.

You don't expect us to beat Cal at home? Really? They just went 5-7 and are losing their senior multi year starter at QB. They are basically a worse version of us, all offense, no defense. Obviously we aren't a lock to beat anyone, especially with all that we could be losing, but c'mon man we shouldn't be that bad.

Not without Mitch I don't.

We shouldn't have lost to moo at home either, but we did.

Yeah I mean sure we could lose, but expecting to lose at home to a team that is coming off a 5-7 season and is losing key players is a bit pessimistic, no?

Given our history I think it's being realistic. Yes, they only won five games, but they didn't really have any horrible losses. We did.

Goff was their starter for the last few years before Webb - Webb was at Texas Tech, but I see what you're saying.

I agree with you though - we should definitely beat Cal. I'm more than willing to make a wager with anyone that wants to take Cal straight up in that game next year. I'm guessing we'll be somewhere between 7-10 favorites in that game.

@tarheel0910 we can agree to disagree so that the thread doesn't get derailed, but yes they lost to 4-8 Oregon St and 5-7 Arizona St and were completely blown out by USC, Washington, Wash St and Stanford. Their best win was against 8-4 Utah.

I realize our collapse really took the wind out of everyone's sails, mine included, but a lot of posters are acting like we're right back in the Bunting years lol. Next year should be interesting with all that we lose on offense but damn we aren't a 3 win team all of a sudden.

i finally figured out why this bothers me. it's not because trubisky is probably leaving. it's because a team with the second rated quarterback in the nfl draft should be able to beat dook and nc state.

I can't speak for other posters, but I'm not trying to say that we are back in the Bunting years. I just feel like we are going to revert back to our historical norm, which is an average to slightly above average team that flirts with the top 25. We've never had back to back double digit winning seasons and I think the last time we finished back to back seasons ranked was Mack Brown's last two years. That's two decades and counting. I raised my expectations this year even though last year was an outlier, historically speaking. I think we'll get more than 3 wins, but I'm not going into the season expecting a lot of wins. My expectation is somewhere between a 6-8 win season. I hope we get more, but there is nothing in our history that says I should expect it.

^ I think Bubba will keep us above the Bunting yrs, very good, but not elite. It is all about recruiting imho. Part of recruiting is current win/loss streak, part is univ/campus/facilities, part is gameday(stadium & fans), part is tradition.

We have fantastic univ/campus/facilities, but don't have the gameday or "tradition" and it won't be easy to ever get to elite level gameday or "tradition".

If you are in a place that is easy to recruit and you have great tradition, you can bounce back from losing yrs, back to elite. Penn St is bouncing back, Notre will bounce back, etc.

Baylor is a team that is trying to go from middle to Elite, but I have a feeling it will be tough. Houston too.

On the topic of expectations, I think carolina fans need to learn how to embrace an underdog role. Many teams with a rabid fan-base stick thru the good and the bad, easily putting on the underdog hat and cheering like crazy against the odds (like anytime our D steps on the field).

You make a good point. It's going to be hard for that to happen here because of the success we have enjoyed in every other sport, not just basketball. We routinely have top 25 teams in pretty much every sport we participate in. If you are routinely a top dog in almost everything it's hard to accept the underdog role.

in other words, we're spoiled.
