Censorship and Euphemisms... two of the pillars of American Exceptionalism! I may intentionally increase my own personal use of these words.

The Trump administration is prohibiting officials at the nation’s top public health agency from using a list of seven words or phrases— including “fetus” and “transgender” — in any official documents being prepared for next year’s budget.

Policy analysts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta were told of the list of forbidden words at a meeting Thursday with senior CDC officials who oversee the budget, according to an analyst who took part in the 90-minute briefing. The forbidden words are “vulnerable,” “entitlement,” “diversity,” “transgender,” “fetus,” “evidence-based” and “science-based.”

In some instances, the analysts were given alternative phrases. Instead of “science-based” or “evidence-based,” the suggested phrase is “CDC bases its recommendations on science in consideration with community standards and wishes,” the person said. In other cases, no replacement words were immediately offered.

The question of how to address such issues as sexual orientation, gender identity and abortion rights — all of which received significant visibility under the Obama administration — has surfaced repeatedly in federal agencies since President Trump took office. Several key departments — including Health and Human Services, which oversees the CDC, as well as Justice, Education, and Housing and Urban Development — have changed some federal policies and how they collect government information about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans.

In March, for example, HHS dropped questions about sexual orientation and gender identity in two surveys of elderly people.https://www.washingtonpost.com/nati...dec16379010_story.html?utm_term=.d935148694e9

Lol this administration is such a fukkin joke. Banning the phrases "science-based" and "evidence-based" were the least surprising though. Not like science or evidence have ever been relavent to trump voters anyways.

Sweet. If wackos can make words up, good to know they can also be banned. MAGA

Well he's keeping the blacks, Muslims, and Gays in their place so there's that...

I'm glad you condone fascism. Certainly not surprised. Banning language and words? Censorship of language? No, fvcking, way would I condone or endorse such behavior.

I can see how "evidence-based" and "science-based" and "diversity" scares the shit out of people who claim to be conservative-based.

This is not fascism. This is the federal executive directing a federal agency. It’s only fascism if/when he tries to do it to you and I. It was the last federal executive last enacted actuall fascism by enacting orders that restricted free speech amngst ‘we the people’. So all you mental midgets can STFU.

I need subtitles for that one. I only speak English.

ETA: Banning words and forbidding language is fukked-up, I don't care who does it, or to whom they do it.

It’s pretty disturbing that he banned “evidence” and “science” based as terms. That’s beyond the debate over transgenderism, that’s just backwards.

Especially considering he's trying to ban a scientific organization from using them.

This is going beyond normal partisanship. To me, this administration is undermining basic republican institutions and that’s the easiest way for a Republic to decline and later implode. Deliberately encouraging misinformation is very dangerous. And no one should try to defend it.

As someone who does tend to lean conservative, I’m highly disappointed that more fellow republicans aren’t resisting him and his bullying.

Oh, but there's plenty of people who are waiting to defend anything he does. If whatever he does, or says, is potentially "bothering liberals", then it is worth it for that outcome. Doesn't matter of it bothers most every rational-thinking individual. Even when the people defending his dip-shittery know it's stupid and detrimental... no biggie. Bullshitting your conscience is easy. Being short-sighted is what's most important.

So what if he's trying to stifle free thought and dictate scientific terminology... as long as doing that makes "liberals" upset.

Us commie bastards voted for a black guy twice. So now we're getting what we deserve... /s

No way words should be banned from use. And might I say it's refreshing that you folks are raising just as much hell now as when we couldn't say radical Islam.

You just said it! As much as I thought that "not calling it Radical Islam" was foolish, I don't remember Obama telling other people that they couldn't call it that. And, as I recall, plenty of people did, do and will continue calling it that.

Which federal agency received a memo banning that phrase?

Actually quite a lot of secular liberals like myself had a huge problem with Obama refusing to name the enemy. But he didn't ban any agency or federal employee from using that phrase. He just refused to use it himself. So that's not even remotely comparable.

Technically, yes, they are. Why do they need to be banned and censored is the better question.

I am really worked up over this. I’m so mad about it that I might not be able to get through my day.

I understand. Words like science based, how dare they. Can't even say something like, "It is a science based fact that XX chromosome creatures are female and XY chromosome creatures are male."

I honestly don't care. Maybe I should, but I'm just so tired of the stupid shit that's gone on with him that I just can't care anymore. I'll pay attention the tax bill and things like that, but otherwise I'm just kind of tuning out at this point.

See, this is the problem with the media and everyone that's constantly on his jock harping over every little thing he does. It gets to the point of "the boy who cried wolf". People just tune out everything related to him now since his life/comments have been dissected ad nauseum already.

Apathy has contributed greatly to the dysfunctional government we now enjoy.

Censorship of language is a hot button for me. Sorry, not sorry.

Go to your safe space.
There is no such place. But, thanks.

As I said early on, I can see how words like "science-based" and "evidence-based" and "diversity" can bother a person who identifies as conservative. Those words indicate a behavior, or activity, that runs transverse to what makes people conservative. Conservative is a feeling of wanting things to stay exactly the same. Science, and the evidence it produces, and the diversity it reveals, makes changes that occur seem more apparent. And, change is like Kryptonite to people who believe they are always conservative, all the time.

This is so fked up. How anyone, dem or repub can see this and not be infuriated at the stupidity is beyond me. What a clown show this admin has become. Complete embarrassment. I gave the guy a pass at first for his many faux pas and idiotic tweets due to not being a seasoned politician and i actually enjoyed his sparring with the press. But shit like this just shows hes incompetent. Has he even read the constitution? He wont last much longer thank god. Guarantee u he wont make it another year. Not at this rate of dumb****ery.
