Two Officials From UNC-Baylor Game to Work NCAA Tournament Games This Week

I am disgusted but not surprised by the lack of backbone in the NCAA!

Reason #1 Billion why they need to be disbanded. If these 2 wannabe refs even blink wrong at someone they should lose their jobs!

Did anybody from the NCAA rules committee actually look at and review the tape from the game. There is no way that any of the three blind mice got a passing score if fairly scored…

Maybe The Boz wasn’t as crazy as we thought

He was 100% right AND in Russia they don't suspend for performance enhancers so....

I haven't watched the Baylor game since Saturday. The flagrant 2 was iffy and the over and back looked like the Baylor player knocked our guy over the line. Outside of those two calls, I didn't see egregious calls against us. The truth is their pressure bothered us, alot, and they made a hell of a comeback. Thankfully, our boys won the OT.

There were egregious no calls and the F2 was ridiculous. I agree that the pressure hurt us as much as any other factor though and so did us missing Freethrows! You just can't make an "iffy" call that removes the team's hottest player in a tourney game though! I agree that we should have weathered that storm better and much of the collapse was completely on us!

in a press conference, hd said something along the lines (more or less) that he likes those refs, that he knows them, has a long term relationship with them. he said they were good guys and are great or excellent refs.
i can’t remember the exact words but i was in shock. it really takes a man of Christ to forgive such atrocities

I agree that our failure to handle the press and our failure to make FT’s contributed greatly to our near loss. We’ve been an excellent FT shooting team all year. I hope we are working diligently on our press offense. I feel sure we are.

There was a stretch of 7-8 minutes late in the 2nd half where there was 10 straight calls on us and NONE on Baylor. During the same stretch our guys were getting manhandled bringing the ball up and in our offensive sets and the refs swallowed their whistles... There were blatant no calls during that stretch. Totally night and day from the first half.

You are right about our inability to handle the press and hit consistent free throws were a huge problem. Another thing that really bothered and bothers me is that YOU Cannot melt a shot clock. When we did get an offensive possession we shot ourselves in the foot by not running our offense. You can try and slow the game down and melt some of the shot clock but it has to be within the frames of our offense. Waiting until the shot clock gets to a few seconds and jacking up prayer shots and or getting shot clock violations helped play right into Baylor’s hands. Keep moving the ball to work and break down their defense. Having McCoy throw the ball inbounds ( God Bless Him) was not a smart coaching decision. The kids BB IQ is not very high and it shows. The rebound popping through his hands late in OT, lol. Other miscues. Styles hugging the ball on every rebound. They teach you that in grade school along with don’t let yourself get trapped by the sidelines and corners. Not getting the ball out of the net quickly to inbounds it before the defense has a chance to set up. Passing the ball and getting it stolen because you have a guy in your face and you lazily try and pass it without faking high and passing it low. Basic fundamentals. The last play of regulation was not executed. I know RJ had been hitting threes earlier In the game but shooting the ball 28 feet from the basket with the game clock at 2 and a half seconds was not smart. Credit to the Team for persevering through the OT. Styles’s three and McCoy’s free throws and defense were stellar. Sorry man I started venting about the game as I was typing. Hopefully we learned and will correct those mistakes going forward.

Can’t argue with a bit of that.

Then maybe you should actually watch the Baylor game again, unless you're actually related to the clowns that called that game. After actually re-watching the game a couple times I saw some obviously bad calls. Manek did not "intentionally/maliciously" try to defend himself against his assailant (Sochan), denying an entry pass on defense actually isn't all that difficult when you're allowed to hook, grab and hold the jerseys, shorts and jock straps of the player your guarding and that hip check knocking R.J. into the back court would have been called in a hockey game .. which leads me to believe those clueless ref's are incompetent at referring both basketball and hockey and the only other place they could get a job outside of being a prison guard (no offense to prison guards) was as an NCAA basketball referee .. and in the NCAA the logical place for incompetence is in officiating and upper management. jmho

Manek absolutely threw his elbow with clear intent to hit Sochan in the head, which he did. If he'd been assessed a flagrant 1, no one would have objected, including the Baylor coaching staff. I thought the flagrant 2 was a bad call.
Ref's call games in the flow of the game. That was a very physical game and, honestly, was to our advantage in the first 30 minutes of play. If I'm bored, I'll watch it again, but outside a few calls, I did not think the refs impacted the game as much as 1) Love gettting his 5th 2) Carolina's collapse in focus and piss poor decision making in the face of their press.
That we won the game in OT was all of that game I wanted to see.

That 5 second call was awfully quick, don't you think?

it may have looked like that just because that's what he did.

I never saw Manek turn his head to see who was mugging him .. go away troll.
Troll?
I've been a UNC basketball fan since my childhood friend went to Carolina to play 4 years for Dean and then be the number 1 draft pick in 1986. Oh...and Roy Williams was our high school basketball coach, leaving to be an assistant at UNC after my freshman year.
I'm no troll, pal
Whatever you saw, doubt many care, Manek threw his elbow. He knew who was behind him.

When everyone in the national media and even uk fans say the refs were bad, I think it's safe to say they were bad. It's also probably safe to say the apocalypse is upon us when all of those people take our side.

Only Manek knows what really happened. Regardless, I could care less. The James Bond Villian wanna-be deserved it and the Refs lost control. Reminds me of 1995 when Rasheed Wallace elbowed Andre Riddick (intentional or not). Riddick then choked Rasheed. The Kentucky papers all showed Rasheed’s elbow in Riddick’s mug and the Carolina papers all had a photo of Riddick’s hands around Rasheed’s neck.

I remember that game. Tar Heel's went on to win. Just another reason uk fans hate us...lol

Bert Smith has been sent to San Fran. He will do everything possible to keep dook alive.
And keep an eye on another kay favorite Doug Shows. 👈

As stated earlier in this thread....one of those officials will be doing our game.......maybe he'll try to finish what he was not able to get done against Baylor. a complete and utter TRAVESTY!

A concern I have, in addition to the ref issue is that we have a 9:30pm tip off against a west coast team in Philly. 9:30PM is an abnormal tip time for east coast teams but a 9:30 east coast tip time for a west coast team is like playing a 6:30 tip time for a west coast team, absolutely normal and comfortable. We had 2 9:30 tips times in the ACCT, struggled to score in both of them and now we go from a noon tip in the round of 32 (the early game) to 9:30pm in this sweet 16 (the late game)? This really helps the west coast team and I do not like that!

A separate thread here just put a Pat Forde article about the lack of accountability for refs round to round.

He pointed out that the NCAA said the flagrant 2 was the correct call, but failed to address the lack of whistles for the extreme aggressive press during the comeback with plenty of whistles on UNC with less contact.

I think they used the flagrant 2 attention, which could be justified much easier, to avoid what happened with the refs after.

As I said yesterday, Bert is out west and worked the dook game last night to their favor. Check his schedule for the amount of dook games he has done.

And Doug showed his low down butt by really screwing over the Zags, who didn't play well because he wouldn't let them.

It's not an accident all the teams that can beat dook are being eliminated this weekend and bad officiating is at the forefront.(Gonzaga and Arizona last night)
I can't stand Bill Self but look for KU to bent over the rail tonight.
And I'm afraid we are last in line of those who can beat dook but wont get the chance. I pray to God to be wrong about us.☹️

whatever happened to the rule that the officials could not talk to individual coaches alone? The rules that get ignored or poorly attended to have made the game a joke. When there is a point or points of emphasis revealed at the start of each season, you should ask 'why does it have to be emphasized, and what is going to be DE-emphasized instead?'.

Don't rule Kansas out, they were one of my picks to reach the final game, they are quietly one of the 2 or 3 best teams in the country this season, duke is NOT one of those 2 or 3.
